Blizzard Responds to Community Outrage on Purify
There has been outrage in the community over the weekend after Purify was revealed. It has lead to jokes, memes, countless threads, and a few big-time Hearthstone community members made videos addressing the card.
Iksar stated on reddit that they were already happy with the options Priests were getting from Karazhan through Neutrals and because of that wanted to try something different.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
Quote from /u/IksarHSWe've had similar articles in the past about design stories for particular cards, I think the most recent one I remember discussed all the design iterations that Yogg went through. Card designs have a number of different goals, sometimes those goals are immediate competitive play and sometimes they shoot for something else. Things like flavor, arena viability, or sprinkling in tools for a new or existing archetype. In smaller sets, it can be a little risky to take a gamble on a new toolkit because there are fewer cards to work with. In the case of Priest, we were pretty happy with the amount of options the class was getting from neutral (Barnes, Curator*, Medivh, Dragon Cards) to do some testing with a new archetype that Purify could be a part of. In my mind there is some positive to the outcry over Purify because I think people will definitely try it out and report any successes/failures/stories they had building and playing a 'silence your own stuff' priest. None of this is to say anyone is wrong in their feedback, but just to communicate some of the ideas surrounding a card design. Hearthstone is important to all of us, and we're trying to do better in terms of communication and understanding what different communities (like this one) are most interested in. I've been happy to be here and have a conversation about what you all want from the game, thanks for being so passionate about it. :D
I understand the outrage. Priest needs all the help it can get right now, in both standard and arena. But fun/gimmicky cards *are* good to have in the game. This card can help priest make the obvious fun deck involving Eerie Statue, Ancient Watcher and whatnot. Personally, my main issue with this card is that it's obtained in an adventure.
A card like this should have been distributed in the next pack expansion instead. When you buy an adventure, you know the cards won't all be top notch, but you at least expect generally good quality, as you're paying money (or 700 gold) for those cards. In this case, you're paying... for Purify. I disagree with this. Cards like these (and keep in mind that Purify is *not* the only culprit) should be reserved for pack expansions, not for paying content. That's personally my main gripe with this.
Here, I translated this for everyone:
Priest players should stop crying and just play Wild. Priests are still really good in Wild, and Standard sucks anyway. I don't know what's so difficult about this...
Granted, Priest got screwed in Kara, but that's why you play Wild because the cards NEVER ROTATE. You can still play Lightbomb which is what you guys are all asking for. It's not like the stuff went away, it just went to another format. Why in the world would you even want to TRY playing Priest in a meta full of Zoo and Face Shaman? That's borderline retarded. Play in a format (Wild) that actually allows Priests to do their thing if you want to play them so bad.
because we are bored to see the same old fucking cards since the start of the game
The newest cards can be played in Wild too, so it's not just the same old stuff. Plus there is more diversity in Wild so your point is moot. You say you're tired of the same old cards, but you're not tired of facing the same old decks (Zoolock and Face Shaman)? At least in Wild you play against more than a handful of decks, thus leaving tons more room for creativity while still being successful. Each Standard cycle will be figured out no later than a month (if that) of any given set being released. In Wild, the meta isn't defined by 2 decks, or even 5 decks; it doesn't get "figured out" by the few decks that steamroll everything as with Standard. All that aside, I just can't understand why Priest players don't just play Wild right now where they can still be successful. When they become viable in Standard again (inevitability), then play Standard to your heart's content. It's like sitting in a hot tub in the middle of summer and complaining that it's too hot when there's a nice refreshing swimming pool right next to it.
yes you are right, that's why im now bored of the whole game, so i don't even play it, just for the daily gold , and this shitty adventure will make me do so again for the next 6 months until they come out with a new, balanced game (which i doubt )
Can't say I blame you there... The game will never be totally balanced, but it's still fun for casual play imo. That's the major reason I transitioned to strictly Wild because the old feel of the game is still there in most respects. Net-deckers still climb the fastest I imagine, but it's not the same 3-5 decks every match. Plus not all Shamans and Warlocks are aggro. In fact most of them are not from what I've seen.
look this video it's so funny about the One Night in Karazhan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQB_p8etL00
even for 0 mana it would be completly useless since no one will use 4 draw cards and power shield would be still better; this game is overpriced and overated more and more with the time; its boring as fuck and they do nothing against that, im feeling fucked since i paid for their fucking overpriced adventure that you just cant have otherwise if you dont want to play in arena all the time 4h per days to farm the gold. Now I'm tired of being fucked every fucking 5 months, i dont even have all the playable cards of the game even if i PAID the price of a full game on adventures, so i dont even have the full content, the they still add new content again and again, still the game stays boring and unbalanced (not only the classes which is normal, but all the meta that is boring, the matchmaking broken etc )
I'm just about playing a another game instead of this scam
you won't play it with shield too so its shit
I can't believe people still play this game. If after all the expansions/adventures they still can't get aggro decks under control, then they probably never will. They need alternate hero powers, or something, to change the core of the game.
they dont want to kill aggro decks, this was too much these last few month but it was playable before the old gods
So, why are you on this forum?
your reply is as useless as this expansion
im thinking about doing the same
trying it atm :)
sadly the graphics are far from good
I am playing legends too ! I liked the design, the cards, the system. Talking about business it will be amazin legends fight for a piece of cake in card games genre. I love Bethesda and Elder Scrolls Story, so I bet it will be better when full release.
"Silence your own stuff" decks are currently not viable due to being too slow. There needs to be cards that you actually really benefit both from playing as they are and from silencing. We're talking a 4 mana 6/7 with Battlecry "Reduce own attack by 4 and increase own health by 2, and gain Taunt" (Taunt is nice, high hp is nice for Priest, can be silenced for a 4 mana ogre). The only silence fast enough to even think about using is the 0 mana spell though since that way you have all your mana left for other stuff.
They can do whatever the hell they want. The way I figure, it was the HS community - not Blizz - that gave us huntards and zoolocks. So as far as I'm concerned, anything the community has to say is moot, since they only know one way to play.
They're the ones whining!? Lol, now that's ironical something fierce.
