Old Card Backs Returning
An oldie revisited! Ben Brode has confirmed that bringing back old ranked card backs is something they'd still like to do one day.
Quote from Ben BrodeWill previous season card backs ever be obtainable again? A few new friends like collecting but discouraged from missing many
It's something we'd like to do someday
Build Your Own Deck Brawls
It's been a few weeks since we've seen a brawl that is anything but a deck building challenge, which leads us to ask, what do you think about it? Do you prefer brawls where you have to build decks, get a premade deck, or get a completely randomly generated deck?
Yong Woo says we'll be seeing some "super cool pre-built" brawls soon.
Quote from BlizzardSo many deck building brawls lately :(
We'll do some super cool pre-built brawls soon!

I hope they bring back old card backs, just not as end of the month rewards obviously. I'm guessing they will sell them but it'd be cool if they made them a reward for some other achievement.
The main reason being that my favorite one by far is the green one from month 2 but I didn't start HS until about 10 months ago so will never have it. I was avoiding HS back then because I knew I can't handle myself with CCG's/TCG's when I get addicted. Well it finally got it's hooks into me once the android version came out and kinda bugs me I can never get the best looking card back.
Also for the people who feel like this is removing something from them by giving it to other people. Remember at least you got it for free, I'm assuming they will probably be charging 5 bucks or so for these classic card backs later on.
Card backs can be used as a slight 'tell' in HS. I use players cards back for as much info as possible. How long have they been playing? What is there favorite Hero or play type? etc. You need to find out as much about your opponent/opponents deck as possible, and a card back helps (however little) in doing that goal.
I have almost every card back in the game (even went out of my way to use a virtual machine program and an android emulator to get the Fireside Gathering and Galaxy Gifts card backs without having to actually fulfill the requirements) including all the season ones. I can understand why some would want them to remain exclusive to those who were playing the game at the time, but I can also sympathize with people that joined the game a little later or missed a month or two because life got in the way. I say they should make the old backs obtainable, but not through the normal season system. They should either add in some challenge or quest to obtain old card backs or make them buy-able/craft-able and cost a lot of gold/dust (like 800 gold/400 dust).
I get what some people are saying about old card backs, and the value of rewards. I've been playing a while, since Icecrown Citadel, so there are only 4 monthly card backs I don't have, but I'd still love some sort of access to them. Black Temple is probably my favorite card back, and Rainbow! is also great.
There's probably some middle ground, where there are version 2.0 of some card backs, clearly distinguishable, but 95% the same as the original. Say there's a throwback design every 6 months or so, with a tweaked version of a classic card back. I'd love that.
Wil we be seeing old cardbacks again? Yup, for the low low price of $5 a back! That's half the price of a hero portrait, since the cardback is just as important! And no you can't pay with gold. :^)
And most important, they will not be part of the Standard ;)
Yes, some card backs are cleary imba.
I like the unique challenge though of designing a deck that suits the brawl or a new inventive way of looking at the brawl. I don't have a large collection at all but I only crafted the cards I needed.
Ye bring back old card backs, but make them cost gold hehe!
I hope they rethink the cardback choice. There is nothing stopping you from making another pirate or pandaria themed card back. Just don't make them the same as the old ones. Have respect for your playerbase that supported you all this time. Have them something to show for, their dedication to push past 20 each season should not be thrown away because some people want it. It's a prestige. I myself am missing a few card backs (pandaria dark temple and Halloween one, plus the promotion ones) and i'm fine with that. I missed my opportunity to get them. I could if i really wanted, but i didn't.
My point is. Blizzard, please respect your loyal playerbase and do not do this. Rather than bringing old card backs back, make new ones similarly themed and better. I am confident your art team can do it.
If people had no notion of the existence of a game that is not my problem. A card back is a reward for playing the game at a specific time period.
>"It's a common misconception that someone who'd been there at or from the very beginning is necessarily more loyal or more supportive than someone who had only arrived afterwards" < Do you listen to yourself? You just rewrote the definition of loyal. Someone is loyal when they HAVE been there from the beginning and still play (in this case).
How is Hearthstone not welcoming (and even if it wasn't, cardbacks are the last thing that you should focus on regarding inclusion). It's a card game that allows you to collect cards for free. Time investment is needed and yes it is hard in the beginning (blizz could do a better job at that). But with standard comming our cards from naxx and gvg won't be usable in standard so a lot of our hard work gathering those cards will be undone. That is good for a new player since they won't have to collect all the cards. So what is an old player left with to show for his dedication? A card back. A card back is all that there will be left to show for for how long you've played.
There is no need to bring back old card backs. You just have to make thematically similar ones (another pirate themed or whatever).
I fiind pre-built Brawls funnier cause usually there isn't any OP Deck or Class that you end up facing half the time..... I enjoyed the "Miniature Warfare" Brawl, mostly cause I loved being able to play Malygos without huge set ups but it was fun just for the first few matches then it become repetitive.... I'd rather play something like "Captain's Blackheart Treasure" where every match is different (even though RNG can screw you badly) than seeing the same Combo and Class over and over,I've had enough on those on ladder...... As for the cardbacks,I'd love to lay my hands on some of them, especially "Ice Crown" and "Hallow's End".... I bet some of the older players will get pissed cause they'd rather see these backs stay unique, but c'mon they're just there for aesthetic purposes..... I doubt you really need a card back to remind you that you've been playing these game since beta.....
In the same manner, would you care if you have golden Gelbin Mekkatorque that is a token of the beta players (not that it would really matter, but still) and all of a sudden it's available to everyone? Maybe you wouldn't care that much, but I would, the same goes for the card back
Pretty sure they can only craft regular Gelbin and Elite Tauren Chieftan I remember reading that the golden versions of those cards will still be soulbound and also cannot be crafted .
Asking if they should make older card backs available again is like asking if we want them to just make every card away for free. It would be awesome for the people who started playing yesterday and don't have them, but kinda suck for everybody who started playing 2 years ago and spent A LOT of time (and money) on completing their collection.
This is by far one of my favorite brawls, I like the concept of fate cards that last the whole game, maybe we will see them soon in the game (minions or spell effect, permanent secret maybe) ... my only annoyance at brawls in general is that whenever they are spell oriented you will be flooded with tempo mage opponents with double Flamewaker ...
The only reward we got playing ranked mode for the first 15+ seasons is now trash. Thanks Blizz.
