Blizzard just previewed some balance changes coming to Hearthstone as well as officially announcing the date for the Theorycrafting Streams that our own Imik is taking part in!
Quote from BlizzardThe Year of the Raptor fast approaches as we enter the final days before the launch of Into the Emerald Dream. Brew up some decks, watch your favorite creators, check out upcoming balance changes, and join in the fun yourself in the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl; we’re planning quite the slumber party!
Theorycrafting Streams with Drops (March 13-14)
Join your favorite content creators as they take their first steps Into the Emerald Dream and theorycraft the new expansion. Featured players will be streaming their participation on their own personal streams, so make sure you’re following your favorite creators when they go live!
- NA/LATAM/EMEA players will play on March 13, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. (PDT)
- APAC players will play on March 14, 2:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. (PDT)
All participants need to include at least 10 Into the Emerald Dream cards in their decks (that can be 10 individual cards, 5 duplicates, or anything in between).
It’s a recurring dream! Your favorite casters will be returning for their Theorycasting stream on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. Join them as they watch our theorycrafters dream up their creations, casting over games across participating players.
- Sottle, Raven, Lorinda, and Edelweiss will return to Theorycasting on March 14, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (PDT)
Twitch Drops will be enabled category-wide from March 13, 9:00 a.m. to March 14, 9:00 a.m. (PDT), so you can watch any Hearthstone stream you’d like to earn up to 2 Into the Emerald Dream packs (make sure you link your Twitch and Battle.net accounts so that your viewing time counts towards the drops). On top of that, participating streams will have Pre-Purchase Mega Bundle codes to give away to their audiences during the event!
Pre-Release Tavern Brawl Returns (March 18-25)
Starting with Patch 32.0, slip Into the Emerald Dream early in the returning Pre-Release Tavern Brawl. Open your Into the Emerald Dream packs early, build a deck, compete in a mini-competition, and earn prizes from the new expansion!
All players will get one entry into the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl for free. After that, each entry will cost 2 Tavern Tickets, 300 Gold, or 400 Runestones. On each run, lock in a deck and play until you get either 6 wins or 3 losses and earn more new cards based on how well you do!
In this second iteration of the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, we are adjusting the eligible card pool to be the Core Set (pre-rotation), the Event Set (pre-rotation), The Great Dark Beyond (without the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set), and Into the Emerald Dream.
Dev Comment: This card pool was selected after feedback from the first Pre-Release Tavern Brawl told us you wanted to explore the new cards more and see less of the older cards. At the same time, we want to make sure that you have enough eligible cards to build complete decks—even if you didn’t buy any Pre-Purchase Bundles—so we didn’t want to fully remove all non-Emerald Dream cards from the event, either. We excluded the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set because its cards tend to be used together in bunches. We used the pre-rotation versions of the Core Set and Event Set because it avoided confusion and technical issues stemming from two versions of those sets being live at once. In our testing, this felt like a good balance of those competing interests, but we’ll keep listening to feedback and iterating on this event until we find what works best, so let us know what you think!
Community Days and More Drops (March 18-22)
Community Days return with free packs you can use in the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl! From March 18, 10:00 a.m. (PDT) to March 22, 10:00 a.m. (PDT), you can get up to 10 packs just for watching any Hearthstone stream (2 hours per drop)!
- 1st Drop: 3 Year of the Pegasus Packs
- 2nd Drop: 3 The Great Dark Beyond Packs
- 3rd Drop: 4 Into the Emerald Dream Packs
Tune in to your favorite streamers or host your own slumber party in this category-wide celebration of the Hearthstone universe!
The First Esports Open Qualifiers (March 21-23)
Hearthstone esports is already underway! From March 21-23, you can participate in the year’s first Open Qualifier events. For some players, this could be the first step to the World Championship! Sign-ups are now open:
- Americas Region: March 23, 9:00 a.m. (PDT)
- EMEA Region: March 22, 5:00 a.m. (PDT); March 22, 1:00 p.m. (CET)
- APAC Region: March 21, 5:00 p.m. (PDT); March 22, 9:00 a.m. (KST)
The Open Qualifiers will use the Standard format at the time of the event (meaning after the Patch 32.0 changes, but prior to the new Into the Emerald Dream cards and rotation). See all rules and program details in our dedicated esports blog.
A HUGE Balance Update Coming in Patch 32.0 (March 18)
Last, but certainly not least, several balance changes are coming soon, including our usual updates to cards soon rotating into Wild, as well as updates to cards that will be staying in Standard. These changes go live with Patch 32.0, on March 18. That means these changes will apply to the Theorycrafting event, the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, the Esports Open Qualifiers, and, of course, the launch of Into the Emerald Dream. Take it all in, the fun starts tomorrow!

I did not see the promotion granting two packs on March 13-14 on time... Please Hearthpwn can you inform us a bit sooner?
Wow... All this and STILL those of us using Pixel phones cannot see our opponent, card names, turn updates... But hey man, I'm glad we are getting cards unnerfed
I cannot stand this bug to be honest ... I really wish they would address this issue.
While the mind control on bob absolutely needed to get changed, they just changed it from like a 10 mana mind control effect into an effect that gives your opponent mana. There is just no circumstance you'd ever, ever pick that option anymore.
You're playing a 6 mana seance which also gives your opponent 3 coins. That's beyond magma rager levels of bad. At the very least Bob should destroy the target, or the coin giving removed.
They mentioned lift off and starport as part of refundable cards but didn't say anything about spawning pool which should also give full dust right? Because zerglings got nerfed just like the star pieces.
They missed spawnig pool and they agree it should be refundable. On Discord their offical account confirmed Spawn Pool will be refundable little later (probably one patch after next patch?)
Dude, they DESTROYED Raza the Resealed . I was thinking "Oh, maybe is going to refresh your Hero Power once per turn" Or give you a new Hero Power that refresh each time you play a card. But this effect is horrible. Trust me. I actually tried to make Body Wrapper work for far longer than how I ever should. And what bothers me even more is that that's something that Zerek, Master Cloner the Master of Cloning, would do. Not Raza, why would Raza resurrect your minions? They are different guys.
An overall, super hot take, I find kinda lame that the way to make the new set interesting is a mass nerf to the last set. Like they wanted so hard that we play Starships, and when we play Starships they are now like "No. Don't do that. Look. New Hero Powers" It feels more like a new season from BG than a new set.
And BOB, I'm full on negativity today. But Bob. Why they keep the coins? Sure. Because the flavor of "buying" the minion. But they already took away that flavor, then why keep the coins to do what virtually is casting Seance in an enemy minion? Is a 5-Mana Seance. IF it was a Neutral Convert I could think Okay, that's fair, have the Coins. But for a Seance? Is such a bad deal.
I’m sure many of the nerfed cards will still see play. Every time the devs nerf cards, trash bad players claim they’ve become "unplayable" and "garbage", yet the cards end up being used again and remain good.
The latest examples are Sonya, fizzle and the demon seed in wild.
Wow, Raza the Resealed actually got a really cool effect. (Except the 0 Mana part. Was this really necessary?)
And then all those crazy buffs... I don't even know anymore. Yeah, I guess some of the more competitive decks you just need to concede to if you're playing a more fun deck. I mean it always was this way but... Well, I guess the only reliable way to have fun nowadays is really to find friends to play friendly games with. Of course it doesn't help that this game has no good social features...
wow huge update. So many nerfs
Hearthstone’s design is funny. They print insanely broken cards and decks, knowing damn well how overpowered they are, and then nerf them—only to make room for other equally broken cards to shine, which eventually get nerfed as well.
The game design revolves around making one group of players happy by printing insane cards for them while upsetting the others. Then, they nerf those cards to shift the balance, making the previously unhappy group satisfied while frustrating the first group. This cycle continues endlessly. They do this because they understand that every player’s ultimate satisfaction comes from playing overpowered cards that win as easily as possible, while their opponents struggle with weaker decks. If they made slightly weaker, more balanced cards for everyone, nobody would be happy.
I am 100% sure that the same people who complain about certain decks are the ones playing other equally disgusting, overpowered decks. They don’t actually care about the overall fun of the game—they just want their deck to be busted while their opponent’s deck is terrible.
The funniest part is that I don’t blame the devs a single bit. They’re simply giving players what they want: insanely broken cards, no matter how boring or uncreative they may be. The only reason so many people thought this miniset was “fun” is because the cards were so ridiculously overpowered that they overshadowed the main set. Players enjoyed it despite its flaws. In reality, it was boring because the archetypes were so forced—unlike normal sets or minisets. Building a creative deck with a unique idea was nearly impossible because success relied mostly on playing the miniset archetypes.
I like a low power level because it opens the door for trying different things and being creative with your cards. A high power level forces you to play certain things to succeed.
I was the least excited about the miniset because there was very little room for creativity. I literally didn’t even want to buy it, but I knew damn well that the cards were insane and that many of them were going to get nerfed.
Its the same stragety Riot uses in League of Legends, they release a broken hero and eventually nerfed it when the acquistion of the hero has slowed down. Blizzard been doing this for a while, so it's no surprise and the dynamic RNG where you mysteriously gain a 10 lost streak after winning 10 in a row.
Honestly feeling pretty okay with them nerfs the only card I feel is missing off there is Mothership that card could do with either having the generation reduced or maybe include the spells in what it can generate so that its less consistent.
It will probably be the best priest deck come expansion day and the Raza change benefits it greatly as you can reshuffle things like more Mothership Colossus Archon Dark Templar High Templar
Kinda wish that Missile Pod also got the same treatment as Liberator.
I really don't know why Liberator was able to hit face at all. Like you will always be more happier that you got Liberator than Banshee.
Anyways, Shamans are getting a lot of the cards they use in their Terrain Deck rotated out so I am hoping it just straight out kill Terrain Shaman decks because it was way overtuned for my taste.
I was mostly fine with the pieces as they were except Raven. Randomness within randomness that either led to a good situation or a complete blowout. If you rolled poisonous before missile pod went off, you cheesed the opponent out hard with a board wipe, or if you gained lifesteal before missile pod/liberator went off, you reno'd yourself. When your raven gave you DS/rush/taunt/windfury it was still strong, just not cheese swing-the-game strong. Just make raven draw a card on launch or something.
How did the most busted card in the SC expansion the Viper avoid a nerf? By no means that card is fine.
I'm pretty sure the infestor nerf just makes the deck unplayable so it's probably not worth nerfing.
All of these nerfs are fine but the arkonite defense crystal. Really makes no sense to me
Makes perfect sense they wanna sell the new expansion which is looking somewhat Meh to a lot of people because current decks would still be better so nerf whats being played and pretty much anything ship related runs Arkonite defense crystal.
its the only good neutral deathrattle, and deathrattle synergy is a strategy they are pushing for some classes.
