Warsong Commander Nerf Incoming
Grim Patron isn't going to be the same. The patch will go live next week.
Quote from ZeriyahThe following balance change will be made in an upcoming patch:
Warsong Commander now reads: Your Charge minions have +1 Attack.
Over the course of the short but impactful history of Hearthstone, we’ve taken a strong stance that we’d like to make changes to cards only when they are completely necessary. The direction of gameplay and the metagame should be defined by our players, and as the meta is evolving, many different types of decks can emerge. Cards that were once impactful in the meta can be less so once new strategies emerge, and that change is brought on by the constant need and drive for innovation by our players.
Innovation is just one way a game can evolve, and the best way to shake up the meta and innovate in Hearthstone is by introducing new cards into the game. Introducing new cards to Hearthstone is our preferred method of changing the current state of the game. It’s exciting to discover a deck that may have an advantage over a popular deck out there, and new cards lead to the discovery of new combinations, and new conversations. Hearthstone thrives off of stories about enjoying a fast-paced, fun game with friends that’s full of delightful surprises.
Going forward, we will continue to stand by our stance that we will only make adjustments to cards when we feel it is completely necessary and allow the injection of new cards into the game help our players define what the meta evolves into. In the case of Warsong Commander, we felt this change was necessary to help expand both future design space and to stand by our overarching game philosophy that battles between minions and fighting for board control is what makes Hearthstone fun and compelling.
The patch that includes the Warsong Commander change is currently planned for next week. (Source)
Basicly, people have complained about everything, period. Whether it is Priests, OTK, or just RNG, people have ,and most likely will, complain about every bump in the road until 2018.
I get what youre saying, but why bring up oil rogue? Yeah its combo based, but youre not filling the board with 8 million self replicating chargers. You also can easily combat oil rogue with taunts, whereas execute is a thing for Patron. You also face tank a lot of dmg in oil rogue, and you cant just tap to keep your health up, you have to actually put cards in your deck to heal. Not to mention, from my experience, oil rogue usually requires you to apply sustained damage and get them down to below 20 or even 15hp to get the combo off.
Bitchplease patron was easy, gather 3 whirlwind effect, warsong and 2 frothing berserker and one shot opponent how hard is this ina deck that has 6 whirlwind effects, removals and one of the best card draw engine of the game. You onlylost with patron when your combo pieces were at the end of the deck, this deck was easy as shit unless you are braindead.
Yeah you're right the example was not that much allign with my point (combo druid would be a better example admitingly), my point being that people complain about everything unless it's really gimmicky or easily counterable. I played Patron and liked it but saying it's an easy deck to play is unrealistic, just piloting the deck to do what it MUST do let alone counter other decks is not the easiest thing to do. That was my point and you're right on the sidenote ;) (althought as oil rogue it was very much possible to go 20 to 0 casually or even (25-28)ish to 0 in some games i've played so yeah...but that's not the norm case scenario I assume)
About patron being easy to play @Randymarshlol you can't be more horrificaly wrong Patron was the deck with witch i made it into top tier ranks for the first time and playing against other Patrons at that point onwards (at rank 5 or higher I assume are the guys that play good the very least) you could clearly see what can happen if you missplay 1 time on turn 2-3 on something insignificant, it could be disasterous because the deck has a certain dynamic that misplays tend to not be forgiven unless the match heavily favours you or the opponent misplays too. (but the only match that heavily favours you as patron is freeze mage, or aggro/secret paladin in some cases and at that you're not even the best counter out there for those match up's realistically the average w/r of patron against all out there is NOT even as high as 53%)
Dude if patron was the deck that you took to high ranks you obviously got carried by the power of the deck, I played a lot of patron the deck was very forgiving and allowed you some comebacks that were just over the top, it surely wasn t a hard deck to play that s just bullshit the combos are limited to drop wsc, patron, frothing and proc deathbit, whirlwind and us ghoul, compared to freezemage or malyrogue it is a very easyand forgiving combo deck.
Yeah but in the cases of high damage combo in oil rogue from my experience, it meant you were so far ahead it wouldntve mattered if they had 1hp or 75hp. It means you drew like a god and they had no answers for anything.
I played it almost exclusively in june and july both month to legend, I think most pros are full of shit when the say it has a high skill cap you just need to know your match ups and not have awful luck to get a 75% winrate, you just need to realize that the combos are very limitied like i said it s basicaly drop wsc, patro. and frothing and activate one the 3 whirlwind effect in the deck + inner rage. Battle rage was op in that deck, 0 mana execute as well, you get tons of healing with armorsmith and heropower, it's not hard as far as combo decks goes, freeze mage and malyrogue are way more balanced, and they don t punish opponent for playing low attack minions, and frothing berserker is really op with wscand whirlwind effects. I got legend first time before naxx with zoo deck and it felt like an achievement because i actually had to trade board and know when to push for face damage, with patron i got disgusted after two seasons because it felt like a free ride to legend, basically removal and card draw for 6 or 7 turns then combo and win, it was too powerful and had to go, it was better than miracle at his prime which had a higher skill cap and less consistency imo. Also i don t think you can climb in ranks with other combo decks such as freeze mage and malyrogue if you re bad they don t allow for a lot of mistakes, patron was much straight forward.
Blizzard is stupid. They are killing a deck with this change. Why not just change the frothing?!(something like increase dmg only when YOUR minions are damaged). With this change the patron is not dead, just nerfed. With their change is dead. Really? +1 attack for charge minions, wtf is that crap? do they even think?!
So many people are upset that they destroyed the card and killed the deck, but let me explain that they didn't kill the deck, they killed the card yet but not the deck. From what I've seen myself, most players playing this deck generally win with the 30+ Frothing Berserker.
Over running the Warsong, all you have to do is switch it for Charge. It'll do the same thing. I was at work when I read the news so I wasn't able to post until now, but if you look at it. You just have to do the same thing, you get Grim on the board with Frothing Berserker.
Do the same combos and you end up with your 30+ Frothing Berserker. Well I can't attack with it right? Wrong given it Charge. now granted the deck might need some changes as you wont be able to clear out a taunt with the Grim like before, it still makes the deck a bit slower and weaker in my opinion but I still don't see why everyone is pulling Frothing Berserker from the deck.
You could still do the same combo just it requires a bit more of a push to get.
I would also add that the mana curve is the same and I do find it a bit crappy for this nerf to hit before Blizzcon so now players who either where gonna play this deck need to find a new deck. I can tell you when you spend months playing the same deck to get to the event that is Blizzzon to only find out your deck is weak or in some cases dead is crushing.
What they should have done as some have pointed out changed it to minions with 3 or less attack have charge and once Frothing Berserker gets a boost it loses charge. They could have even nerf Frothing Berserker to read can only attack other minions.
But hell I'll be disenchanting my golden Warsongs when the patch hits like everyone else.
Well played, Blizzard. I really expect a refund because I crafted nearly every card this deck needed. I mean, damn, the Patron Warrior was really fun to play and, to be honest, was not THAT invincible.
HEY GUYS I HAVE A GREAT IDEA WHY DONT EVERYONE HERE BECOME GAME DESIGNERS????
...what...?
Look, no-one was calling for a nerf to Patron Warrior as loudly as me. When I saw the title "Warsong Commander nerf incoming" my spirits rose and a grin spread across my face. But what the hell is THIS? Blizzard say they hate nerfing cards, so when they finally decide to tweak one of the most troublesome and unbalancing cards in the game they... completely remake it?! They only needed to give the damn thing MINOR tweaks, like make its charge-granting effect ONGOING so that 25-damage Frothing Berserkers can't OTK people! That way some kind of Patron Variant based around board control rather than cheesy bullshit OTK combos might have still been viable! Instead, they decide to literally DELETE the Patron Warrior deck, make Patron a completely useless card, and ruin any other deck that might want to use Warsong Commander (I ran 1 copy in my Mech Warrior deck just because most of the Mechs are 1-3 power)!
I think this is the proof we need- Blizzard have absolutely no fucking idea what they're doing at all!
I'm glad Blizzard is taking a nerfing approach. But for gods sake first, ur nerfing the wrong card, second ur nerfing the wrong threat when there's Doctor 6 and divine favor out there for Paladins. Holy Jesus lord, play ur own damn game before you want to change a whole archetype. Stop having your own meeting in a room with AC to decide to fuck up ur games and customers. Look what what uve done to WoW, please, stop spending ur time fixing ur own mistakes by making another mistake.
RIP Patron Warrior
the last 2 nerfs were done to cards you cannot disenchant... with the poor assumption people will plop out moar monies for more packs and moar dust to feed their addiction with a new deck so they can keep winning and getting their gold and dailies done. in reality, they know it's cheaper and sometimes free to just get a bot and let the bot suffer the grueling grind for them and put their money into a different game and come back to hs in a few months after the bot has gotten enough gold for them to pick up the game again.
P.S. if i was that poor guy in a diferent thread who plopped out 60 bucks to build a patron warrior deck and the very next day this massive and completely assinine nerf was announced... if I had not invested any or much money prior to that i would have told the cc company that the charge was unauthorized and i did not use the app or play the game and tanked the ban and made a new account and let a bot grind it for at least a few months while I played hex or somehting lol. on the other hand, some of those wings have usefull cards anyways, especially and mainly osme nax wings, so if most of that money went into wings that still have useful cards I would NOT do that.
patron warrior has actually lived nearly into retirement and has said he has no regrets and hopes for the best for the next generation of broken decks and that the schwartz may be with them
em
emmmm
Because OTKing with 40 damage to the face from an empty board isn't cancer right?
Because Dire Wolf Alpha requires you to be next to the minion, and Warsong Commander has 1 extra health which means it survives Explosive Trap, Slam, Cleave, etc. If you're specifically playing a Charge-oriented deck, it may still be a decent pick. If you watch the interview with Ben Brode, he explains how it impacted the creation of other cards simply by existing in it's current state. It's not really a fair comparison.
heh i really could have used dreadsteeds with paladin or even would have tried playing priest because of the card and all their buffs. after getting some nice trades with it, it would become silence bait then the big taunts could come out or something later.
