The back and forth mechanic is cool, but 8+ almost guaranteed face damage? Feel like if the damage was lower starting out it'd be cool but damn that's heavy hitting for 5 mana on top of scaling
Well fuckin sweet! ETC Band Manager can now pack the band full of ETCs as a warrior with the God of Metal, this and the original Elite Tauren Chieftain card. Not that it's useful at all but still. Makes for some great flavor.
Haha this card is based on Tentacious D movie 😀

BRANNNNN
Edit : Whoops didn't saw it was finale, can still be cool with Forbidden spells
This isn't a Battlecry, this only triggers when you spend all your Mana on the turn it is played.
Is this one time trigger or is it for the rest of the game and you/they can take damage multiple times?
It's basically like hot potato. So you play this card and the duel starts... Their next turn, they have to spend all their mana or else it hits them for 8. If they do spend all their mana, it comes back at you to deal 10 damage, and then 12 on their turn, etc. Until someone fails to spend all their mana and it will explode. So it's a one-time big damage result
Does this go face, hit the board, or random its not exactly clear where the damage is going at the same time I can see this either being OP or Unplayed my money is on OP though.
(So just reread both card yeah it does indicate face my bad)
It's pretty clear that it damages the face. And it's a very interesting anti aggro tool
Anti aggro tool?
Aggro decks are the one spending their mana efficiently each turn until they run out of cards. Moreover, why would aggro care about taking 8 damage to their own face? If anything, aggro players would love to play this at 5 if they could do it constantly to deal 8 damage to a control player. But, since they can’t, it won’t make the cut.
This is just an anti combo card or slightly anti control card.
I don’t think it will see any play anywhere. Maybe a weird tech against control mirror but everything else it is just trash.
I wouldn't rite it off I can see a rogue being able to use this very effectively because of the amount of bounce they have all it takes is to get 2-3 copies into play at 1 time and soon as your opponent fails to meet the requirement its GG. I can see it getting nerfed within the first month of mini-set.
Rogue also got mana manipulation with the weapon which is why I think Rogue for sure will find a few ways to run this card to its full effect.
Most decks have no issues curving out, but a fun card!
The most dangerous time you can see this card played on is exactly turn 5, after an aggressive 1-4 curve.
Why I think the home for it will probably be Face Hunter, if that deck is still around after the mini set drops. Especially as Face Hunter can spend all of its mana super easily.
Anyone worried this will break questlock in wild? They can complete quest fast then kill you in a turn or two afterwards.
It's not clear in the card, and thats the reason I don't like those full-in flavor text effect, but I assume that you add *1* Pick to your *opponent's* hand. And if you are playing against Questline Warlock you rather take the 8 damage yourself, cause your life total isn't important at all until your opponent completes the questline.
I think it has way better ways of complete the Quest, it already can complete pretty reliably the Questline on turn 5. Don't think this card is going to make the cut at all, and that deck was pretty popular on the first days of the rotation, but now you don't really see it anymore.
It's so weird having an ETC Legendary in the main set, and then another one in the mini-set.
I have my own personal battle with HS and their "custom text" which means that no matter how veteran you are, you have to play the card to understand it.
But as far as I can tell, it's a 5/5 that in the best case does 8 damage to your opponent once at the end of their next turn, in the worst case it's a 5/5 that deals 10 damage to yourself. As a person that was 3 consecutive years playing against Cloud Prince, I'm not that impressed.
And it has a ton of counterplays, any "Discard your lowest cost card" effect, Solid Alibi, Starlight Groove, any Immune during your turn effect, Dispose of Evidence.
It gives me strong Commander Ulthok vibes, fun to try in the first week, to never see play again. At most I can see it as the top curve card in a shameless Aggro deck.
Doesn't this also technically combo with commander ulthok? If you play both they can't spend mana so automatically take at least 8 damage + whatever they play that turn lol
I guess it does but turn 10+ only. That’s a meme strat at best
The one time I will use this the opponent will negate it with a freshly discovered or randomly generated void virtuoso. Guaranteed 100%.
I'm totally thinking that this is going to wreck the meta and get nerfed. The knee jerk reaction would be to put this in an Aggro deck. However, not a lot of aggro decks are able to continually spend their mana after T6. It is going to come back to them and punch them in the face. Where as a control deck (Blood DK is a perfect example) will be able to drop this and use their mana each turn... top it off with Mograine and you have a serious time clock issue.
There are only a few decks right now that could hold off a cumulative amount of damage coming to your face... Felstring Harp was MADE for this card though.
