After confusion earlier today about the wording on the Legendary Quests that appeared in game early, Blizzard has given us this update, stating that they will keep the version as stated in game, meaning that a single run in the Heroic Brawl when it is live gets you one of the portraits, even if you lose every game.
Quote from BlizzardHey there brawlers,
The Heroic Brawliseum is kicking off tomorrow and we know many of you are excited for the high-stakes competition and prizes! The Legendary Quest chain for the Heroic Brawliseum went live today, in preparation for tomorrow’s kick-off. That Legendary Quest chain awards two new Death Knight skins for people who compete and do well in the Heroic Brawliseum.
Some of you may have noticed that the first step of the Legendary Quest chain now only requires you to play 3 Heroic Brawliseum games, instead of win 3 Heroic Brawliseum games. Simply put, this was a mistake on our part. As initially announced, the intent was that the Frostmonger Sai Death Knight skin would be earned by winning 3 Heroic Brawliseum games.
We’ve decided not to change the Legendary Quest back to the original version this time. Frostmonger Sai will now be able to be earned by playing 3 Heroic Brawliseum games during this Heroic Brawliseum period, regardless of the outcome. The Crimson Knight Sai skin will still be available for the players who accomplish the incredible feat of 12 wins in one run, and we plan to continue to offer challenge-based prizes in future Heroic Brawliseums.
If you’re interested in learning more about the Heroic Brawliseum reward structure, check out the 26.2 Patch Notes before you jump in.
One more note: If you have a full daily quest log, and an event quest, and the new Legendary Quest for the Heroic Brawliseum, it might appear in the client like the Legendary Quest has taken up one of your daily quests. Don’t worry, that missing daily will appear after you’ve cleared a space for it and then restarted the client.
The Portrait
This is the Frostmonger Sai portrait in question.
I cant wait for new DK hero skin called: "Summer Pool Boy sunshine warrior"
I didn't forget how shops work, or think that their release schedule is random. Of course it's not a coincidence. Of course they want people to buy their products. These aren't secrets and don't require psychological analysis to unpick.
If they're telling the truth:
It was a mistake that made it as far as the game client before being spotted.
It's a small change and might afford them some good will.
They're not becoming more generous, they've just decided to avoid any confusion. If you saw the mistake decided to play, paid real money and then didn't get your portrait you'd be annoyed.
If they're lying:
This makes them look a bit incompetent and means they decided to present themselves as stingier than they actually are.
They decided that the best way to promote sales was to make a planned change to their product but present it as an accident to reverse-psychology influence players into paying more money.
Only a small fraction of the player base follow them on twitter or read Hearthstone news so the majority of players wouldn't be aware of the supposed mistake.
Players who do follow Hearthstone news would be unaffected unless they were on the fence about buying the brawl and really like the idea of getting one over on Blizzard. So that's a tiny fraction of the previous fraction.
It's not LMAO obvious that the second explanation is true, that's just ridiculous. If it IS true then Blizzard should cool it with the evil genius stuff.
It's like some players just want to believe the most negative possible explanations about everything Blizzard does, even when these don't make much sense and there are much more plausible innocuous explanations.
It's exactly like that.
Was there a sale on skulls
I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in the death night portraits in general. They’re all effeminate and awful.
I would probably get the skin if sai was a pandaren and not a "undead" Asian insert
Yeah nothing says knight of death like some smirking pretty boi.
Deleted the quest as soon as I saw it, no thanks Blizz.
He's a 'frost monger' so he... sells frost?
I mean do you know how hard it is to keep food refrigerated in a medieval setting? Sai is going to make a fortune.
Admittedly I don't know Warcraft lore but it looks like it's already pretty cold where he is.
This was not a change or mistake, but was done intentionally. Leading with the same, play and win 3 games for the skin as last time sets up the expectation for the group. Telling the group you made a “ mistake” , that benefits the group, but was unintended does two things. The first thing this does is humanize those who are admitting to the mistake. The second thing this does is reinforce that humanization with those who admit the mistake by standing by that “mistake” even though it favors the group and puts the other party in a perceived disadvantage. You want the skin but have been told you need three wins to get it. You now are told you only need to “play” x-amount of games to get the skin AND that by participating in the event you are also guaranteed the CHANCE to get the 12 wins skin as well.
I commend Blizzard and their marketing department for using psychological manipulation to drive revenue. One could argue that those engaging in manipulation are less than desirable as people to associate with, BUT in this instance I give them credit for going the extra mile to get those in the group who otherwise wouldn’t engage, to participate. This kind of manipulation happens each and everyday by the usual suspects. Sometimes it is innocuous and others it is clearly evil. I’d love to see the internal numbers this generates , just to validate how powerful this MISTAKE( lmfao) really is.
Don’t hate Blizzard for doing it but instead see it for what it is and let them know who really plays the game.
Or, y'know, none of that is true and it was just a mistake which makes them look a bit incompetent but they've decided to roll with it. Hardly makes a difference to them. A product will be slightly less scarce than they intended but it's not like producing it costs them anything now that it's ready to go.
Hard to know for sure but my explanation relies on them being a video games company who made a typo whereas yours posits that they're a shadowy cabal of puppet-masters.
Well... it's not that hard to be sure really.
the only thing you're forgetting is that they want as many people as possible to actually play this brawl
it's no coincidence it's always live a couple weeks before mini-set releases
they want people to throw away gold so that those people will buy the mini-set or the packs with real money, and an average player WILL lose that gold
Incredulity is a helluva drug
1000g for a skin and brawl ticket seems fair if you like the skin, and encourages participation in the brawl even if you're not really competitive, making the other brawl rewards slightly easier for everyone else. I hope this becomes the standard for future brawls
8 votes and no explanation as to why it’s a scam. Can you explain?
bc brawlsium has always been a way to fleece players out of pre-set gold so they will pay more money for new cards
It's a scam because it has a 1000 Gold buy-in and the average player will be at a net loss if they attempt it. You can see the 12 win rewards of 3 Golden Legendaries and 50 packs and want that, but in order to come out "Positive" from Brawlesium, you need to win at least 6 games, a feat less than 10% of players will achieve. The high rewards also encourage a sweaty clientele from Top Legend running the most refined meta decks, which makes it harder for players of lower ranks to compete when their opposition are better players piloting better decks.
For the overwhelming majority of players, Brawlesium is 1000 gold for 1-3 packs, which is a horrible deal from the perspective of gameplay-relevant rewards. The changes to the skin unlock this time around though guarantee unlocking it after playing 1 Brawlesium run, for the same price as a Shop skin. If you like the skin and don't mind dropping 1000 Gold/USD $9.99 for it, feel free to play a run for it.
As I don't want to be scammed by Blizzard for 1k gold, can I just simply delete this quest without loosing any other free stuff?
I deleted the quest immediately after starting the game last night, and it gave a "Hey, this is a bonus quest, it won't be replaced by anything else" message, which I bulldozed right past. I got the Scarlet profile from the last brawl scam, but am not going to encourage this sort of behavior anymore.
