    posted a message on TRIALS AND ERRORS (Class Creation Competition #5) - Phase I [Discussion Topic]

    Thanks everyone for your feedback. Now I'm gonna review the classes in the last 3 pages or so.

    @Pircival

    I like the concept of the class and using Armor as resource. Your showcase cards are pretty interesting, and the keyword works really nicely with weapons. Most of the artwork is pretty good and lore-friendly as well. The exceptions are the Legendary and the hero portrait, although I do like the first one a lot and think it fits decently. The latter, not so much.

    @Klipce

    Not a fan of the hero portrait. The whole thing with the spells in the enemy's hand is cool and I always like to see effects that give you small strategical advantages over your opponent, though often they're not impactful enough to be worth playing. The real problem I see is how polarizing cards like Interrogation and the Legendary weapon are: the first one is really not that great against aggro, which is exactly the deck you should be targeting with it, while the latter can be so stupidly strong against some control decks and mediocre versus other strategies.

    @SunnoxPL

    So, I assume Fury works like Combo, right? You kill a minion that turn and then it enables an effect that triggers upon playing. At least that's what the wording led me to think, and if so, it seems really weak, as do most of the weapons. If you're going for attack buffs for your hero, perhaps you should ditch weapons altogether. Training and Hive Knight, on the other hand, are too strong tools for aggro, even after the rework. And the Armor cards also feel quite weak; the reward is too small for such a high cost.

    @Shatterstar1998

    I'm not a fan of the Ethereal's Hero Power and the cards that synergyze with it. Without other ways to add Contracts to your hand, you might end up being forced to HP a lot more than you'd like to and fall too far behind your opponent. Deal is a sweet keyword, tho.

    I like the Astromancer better overall. Don't like the name or the hero portrait, but I do most of the cards and especially the keyword. Props for Starscryer Sera as well; I'm not sure how powerful the card itself is, but it's so nice to look at with that artwork and the border. I'd like to point out how weak Silent Night is as well; I was gonna make the exact same effect on a 2-Cost Secret and thought it was already bad.

    @thepowrofcheese

    Well, crap. The artwork really is the same. I kinda liked it over the other one I was gonna use - which is the same as your Spark of Genius - 'cus it seemed a bit less "crazy", but I'll have to settle for it now or find another. I really don't want to change the name, though; can't we make a compromise on that? xD Anyway, let's talk about your class now:

    - I think Synchronize will be a cool mechanic if you manage to make more cards like Lab Archivist and less cards like Tink-Tailored Soldier.
    - The first Secret is cool; the other one seems somewhat hard to trigger, and I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.
    - Love Clockroach, Exploit Un'Goro and Recyclops.

    So far I think we're heading in very different directions and our classes probably won't turn out very similar, which is really good.

    @Demonxz95

    Well, I remember someone else using minion positioning as a main theme in the past class creation competition. The game's been out for five years now, there's really not much that wasn't already touched upon by other fan creators.

    - Your HP is alright; I like that it damages the right-most minion, which makes it more efficient at killing tokens.
    - Showcase cards are fine as well. I wonder if Split the Ground is overcosted.
    - I think Shatterstar also made a card identical to your Meteor Shower. This is part of the reason I added the restriction to my card; it is all but an original idea.
    - Purge of Flames does seem like a Basic card. I agree it should be moved.
    - Your Legendary seems like a Mage card. I assume it is intentional.
    - The artwork of your cards is really nice. I especially like Tar Fiend.

    @linkblade91

    Oh boy, that Hero Power looks so cheesy. Freeze is so infuriating sometimes. I just don't like it, but I can't say it's broken or anything.

    The first version of Rise Again seems better if you want more control over it. I really don't know what to say about the other cards; they look mostly fine, and the Legendaries all have great potential.

    Whenever I tried to make this mechanic work as a tactical advantage, it ended up underpowered or unimpactful. I thought maybe enabling it to multiply burn could make it viable, but perhaps it ended up a little too powerful. Depends whether Freeze Mage could ever become a thing again in Standard.

    Some quick reviews of what I've seen so far.

    @CheeseEtc I prefer the Hunter card just because the other is too similar to Astral Communion.

    @Demonxz95 I like Witch Hunter better. The game could benefit from effects like this and, while the Rogue card is good on its own, I think Coin/Miracle synergy is quite boring. Tbh so is discard synergy, just nothing can be done about it this time around.

    @linkblade91 Warrior version has the best wording, best framing for the art and is probably the best class out of the two, but it could be neutral as well.

    @BOOOOOOO... Too disruptive. Could change it to only discard and redraw 1 card - and alter stats accordingly - but then it would be just another Gnomeferatu.

    I feel Goldfinger is kind of a poor design. With Auctioneer, you can draw your entire deck while turning some useless, more expensive cards into more mana to cast whatever you'd rather not turn into a coin and win the game.

    Voted for Lathy, Turkeybag and Cogito.

    @Shatterstar1998 Does it spawn the Lightwarden first, then kill the minion, or is it the other way around? In any case, I don't think this card is any good. It can kill many of your own minions - as Priests tend to play many high Health, low Attack minions - and basically does nothing against aggro, as it always replaces whatever it kills, and even worse, it restricts the use of your Hero Power.

    @Noah_McGrath This is certainly not viable in any Control deck, and I suspect neither in Silence Priest. Normally that deck only runs a handful of big minions, spells to control the board and draw and Inner Fire combo.

    @Xetrov Both Mage cards seem massively unfun to play against. Turn 1 they drop a gigantic minion you can't clear and you're screwed - and that happens with the second version too 'cus Mountain Giant is a card. The Paladin card looks strong but bland.

    @Metamorphosis Auto-win versus Aggro. I don't like it.

    @UndeadRebel13 This could be good on Zoo but I think it's too risky for combo. You're basically drawing thrice as fast, but you mill one third of whatever you draw, and potentially even more if you can't dump your hand, which probably wouldn't be a problem but who knows.

    @Pryce_Permafrost That boss was so annoying. lol I dunno, the card seems ok. I don't like that the token has five lines of text. Maybe you could make it so that if you don't have a minion at a certain point in the game (the start of your turn or something like that), you take a fixed amount of damage?

    @ffinderous The Burden is pretty much the same as mine, so I guess I like it, but the reward seems kinda crappy. By the time you can play the hero card, you already got steamrolled by most decks 'cus you're running lots of shitty cards.

    @Turkeybag This restricts the use of your Hero Power significantly, as I imagine the deck that would benefit the most from this effect is not the kind that runs lots of minions nor does many proactive plays, especially early in the game.

    @linkblade91 I don't know what to think of this. I have no idea what kind of deck you could build around it.

    @Fortify Just too much RNG for this to be any good.

    I finally thought of an effect for my card. I like how it ties in with the joke in the card's name and I think it has a lot of potential, just don't know if it's good enough to be viable. You'd need lots of 1-drops in a deck like this, I presume.

    I have yet to change the token and add the dragon to the card frame, just didn't feel like doing it before I'm all set.

    Love the theme. I'mma see what I have here already, but first, let's take a look at your cards.

    @Hikarigami Tbh I didn't get the pun until you explained it, but I wouldn't say it's bad, just a bit bland. The card itself could be super broken.

    @Shatterstar1998 Well, "spill the beans" is not really a pun, but an idiom, right? So I don't think you can go with that. The other card is fine, quite strong really. The art is a bit weird.

    @Demonxz95 That name feels kinda lazy.

    @Pumpkin03 The wording is fine but the card itself seems borderline useless.

    @CecilHoshino I like the Mech better, both the effect and the name. The cycle spell is a bit too good for my taste.

    @Giz4Gamer Kinda like the name. I wish you could make it damage the minion instead of changing Health (I think it would improve the flavor), but then it would be too similar to Toxic Arrow and severely limit its usage.

    @Fortify I'd go with Egg-plosion! 'cus Trigger Happy is too similar to Forbidden Flame (but better) and there's no pun in the Warrior card name. And maybe you could put the "eggs" in the plural so it sounds better, perhaps even change the effect a bit to reflect that.

    @ffinderous I think it counts but I can't see the connection between the name and the effect.

    @Wailor It's fucking stupid. I like it. And hate it at the same time.

    Alright, this is what I got. EDIT: Added Omega Lull. It feels really unbalanced but I couldn't pass the opportunity.

    The way it's worded, Van Hellscream can destroy everything from the Warlock spellstone to Gul'dan's Hero Power, or Kingsbane, or even a minion buffed with Unidentified Elixir. It's kinda overpowered in some very specific situations.

    Inside the spoiler below are some other cards and the old version of Van Hellscream, which I think is significantly stronger but didn't really fit the flavor. Now he's a true vampire hunter.

    This is NOT an Aggro card. It's a combo card, a win condition.

    You need to play AT LEAST 3 Mechs to upgrade it ONCE, that is, if you can keep the first one alive and land both Magnetics on it. Being so hard to upgrade and weak to weapon removal more than compensate for the crazy burst potential with cards like Upgrade! and Heroic Strike.

    Hey crasyherbz, thanks for the feedback. I think having to trigger Magnetic four times is kind of a steep cost as well, but I forgot to account for Omega Assembly. Still, I don't know if I should change it just yet.

    Now some feedback for everyone, as usual.

    @AngryChicken While I like the simplicity of the design, I think it's kinda bland. Really smart what you did to circumvent the artwork problem.

    @Shatterstar1998 I think the card will be fine if you make it hatch after playing 2 dragons.

    @Lathy I like the flavor but it seems somewhat difficult to utilize this effectively due to the upgrade requirements and the cost.

    @Demonxz95 Maybe it could cost 1 more 'cus the Lifesteal seems really strong. Also, while it's interesting that the final form is a hero, I dunno if it's a good choice, especially with such a weird hero power and so much life gain. The art is really good as well (looks like it comes from one of those card games in which all creatures have some sort of upgraded form) but is there no third form that you can use with the hero?

    @crasyherbz I like the idea of telling a story through the upgrades and how similar the first two artworks are. I don't really like the Deathrattle effect in the third form as I don't feel it makes a lot of sense. Maybe you could change the story so this guy gets resurrected as a Death Knight and change the effect accordingly?

    @linkblade91 The card is fine as a Deathrattle, maybe even a bit too slow. I don't know if I like the third artwork since it looks the most different from the other two.

    Dunno if this is balanced. I don't think it would work in Aggro Warrior but you could use it in a combo deck and I'm afraid it might be too good in that case.

    Could have at least changed it to "Whenever a character is healed, deal 1 damage to an enemy minion." so it would guarantee a full clear and not be completely useless.
