posted a message on Free Arena runs are a brilliant idea

Refreshing perspective OP, glad you are enjoying arena.  I've seen so many salty posts from people who can't stand anything that doesn't give them exactly what they want.  The irony here is that most of these people are complaining because they liked the double gold of the fire festival so much that they can't see how amazing the frost festival is, but in a different way.  Anyway, kudos for giving arena a fair shot and for posting that you enjoyed it.  I wish more people would do that instead of just using the forums as their place to rant, vent, and complain about one thing or another.

Nice discussion here everyone.  I enjoyed reading through it.

One aspect of Thrall, Deathseer that I feel is being overlooked is that the hero power becomes (in a twisted sort of way) the card ability from Hozen Healer.  This is really one of the biggest benefits of Evolve that you can smash your Boulderfist Ogre into their 5/5 minion and then cast evolve which gives you a fresh 7 drop fully healed up.  With a half decent board, this card is mind bogglingly strong.

With that being said, the card is extraordinarily dependent on having at least a 2 or more things on the board when you cast it.  Even in a game where you are perpetually behind think of the combo it could have with Volcano.  Turn 9 you cast Volcano to reset the board, summon a totem and play a 2 drop.  Turn 10 you summon a totem and cast Thrall, Deathseer and you have a 4-drop and two 3-drops.  Not a powerhouse for tempo but it would at least give you the time you need to play the card and get the evolve hero power mechanic up and running.

Even in a worst case scenario, on turn 9 you could summon a totem, cast Thrall, Deathseer, and then hero power again giving yourself a random 4 drop.  It's a bad turn but it's not a complete tempo loss.

Overall, I think a (2) rating is probably most appropriate.  It's a very strong card but it does have some situations where it's not going to be very useful.  If you have any kind tempo advantage, or if you are generally even with your opponent for tempo, this card can be a game winning bomb.

Ticking Abomination in most decks will be garbage tier IMO.  It is unplayable except in a heavy control deck with lots of spells and board clears.  The biggest problem is that you often won't be able to kill it off on turn 4/5/6 since it's so over stated.  Then what do you do?  You use it to kill his biggest minion and then play other stuff that will just die to the deathrattle?

It's unplayable in a deck that plans to establish or hold early board control which is usually the most successful decks in arena.

This card will be nearly undraftable for my play style and will be one of the lowest ranked rare cards in the game by my rankings.

posted a message on learning arena

Regardless of how much you watch, playing the game your self will be valuable in building a better understanding of the cards, especially all the ones that never show up in constructed.  As a new player, I would pick 3-4 classes and focus on those to start learning.  Mage and Paladin are probably the easiest classes to get reasonably good results.  Depending on what class you have the most experience with in constructed pick from either Rogue, Priest, Shaman, or Hunter to supplement Mage and Paladin.  If you are a fast learner and actually try hard to improve, I think you should see substantial improvement in 30-50 runs.

Dispatch Kodo and Duskboar = substantially upgraded Firelands Portal!!!

My take is that the card will be great in the right hunter deck.  You'll need to draft a bit more midrange.  This card just gives you an option to switch from tempo/aggro into a value/control style if you find that you can gain card advantage by using the AOE combined with unlimited value from the hero power.  There's a lot of fun combos with the hero power most of which use Duskboar like Rat Pack or Knuckles. Stonetusk Boar gives some nice options as well.

posted a message on Can't pick mage in Arena

9 drafts in a row and not getting one class is unlikely (and unlucky) but certainly not the craziest.  You figure each run you get offered 3 heroes out of 9 so it's a 1/3 chance to get 1 specific hero each time.  That means there's a 66.6% chance to not get a specific hero each run.  9 runs in a row not getting mage works out to 0.66666^9 or about 2.6% likely to happen in any given 9 runs.  Pretty unlucky sure, but not insane.  I think the grinning goat guys had somethin like 15-16 runs in a row without mage for their Sunday co-op runs between Kara and Gadgetzan.

posted a message on Need an opinion on card playing priority

If you are going first I play the senjin almost everytime just for tempo.  There are a lot of 4 drops (like cabal chemist), or  two 2 drops, that your opponent could play on turn 4 that Senjin will be amazing against.  If I'm going 2nd, you kind of expect that your opponent's 5 drop will eat up either the senjin or the chemist for free so play the chemist for flexibility on your next turn.

posted a message on [Arena] Which card is better - Spikeridge Steed or Vinecleaver

Update on this topic... I know my results are annecdotal, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that Vinecleaver is not just the best paladin card in arena, but the best card in the entire Un'Goro set.  I've been tracking my winrate facing this card specifically and I'm currently 5-14.  When it's played on turn 7 or 8 I'm 2-10 against it.  Since GvG I have around a 70% winrate.  All of my 12 win paladin runs (4) have included one or more copy of this card.  Still a very small sample but I thought I would share.

posted a message on Arena: Interesting view on the current state of warrior

So the conclusion to draw is that the only reason these two cards are shown as over 50% win rate is due to dumb luck based on having above average drafts that included these cards and a crazy low number of decks with them so a ridiculously low sample size.  I'm sure you dropped those two cards into a large sample of decks, say 1000, they would also fall well below 50%.

    SAD.
