Those are both solid references, but they are both consumables.

Hearthstone does not feel like a consumable.  I mean even with the movie reference that ticket is our property that you can resell if you would like.  When I buy cards it feels like a digital thing, a something, that I should own.

posted a message on Economics of Hearthstone

I'm a casual player that has played since beta.  I can get to rank 12-15 without much difficulty and usually stop playing ranked games as soon as I have to spend any amount of time.  I have spent about $8.98 on this game so far, but have enough cards to have fun.  I am missing about 106 cards of all types.

I am finding that other games are becoming more fun for me and that got me to thinking about the economics of this game.

When I got tired of magic, played since release, I sold most of my cards and made back all of the money I ended up spending on the game because the cards I purchased I owned and they had value.  In contrast the cards you buy for hearthstone are NOT your property because you are restricted in selling them, essentially the money you spend on this game is not to own, but to lease from blizzard cards t play the game.   I think it is this principle that has stopped me from investing more in the game because the cards have 0 value outside the joy they bring you to look at at.

Your thoughts?  Can someone explain to me why they spend hundreds of dollars on something that has no value?  I mean if I buy a video game, and no longer enjoy the game, I can sell the game to a friend, but here..you get bored  and don't want to play then you are out hundreds of dollar that you could have used on helping people less fortunate.....

So I am about to throw my machine through a wall because either I am clearly lose the game, and I am on a mother of a losing streak dropping from rank 15 down to 20 or I am clearly winning and the game disconnects.  Seriously...every freaking time without fail.  Anyone else?

So the last five, yes five times, I got an epic card it turned out to be tree of life.

Anyone else having the same problem?  Am I just highly unlucky or is there a coding issue?

posted a message on How much money have you spent on HS?

Played since open beta.  I have spent $21. (14 on 2 wings of gvg, $7 in open beta to get a golden card)

My top rank ever I think was 9, but I play VERY VERY casually.  I have a win rate around 50% in casual.

I have almost 1600 dust and a bunch of cards.  I could put most decks together and could compete for legend if I actually cared.  (not promising I have the skills, but I do have the cards)

How many cards am I missing?  A bunch but not so much I cant put together winning decks in at least 2 classes.

I seem to only have the option to purchase the complete adventure, but I would like to buy wing 1 with gold.  How do I do this?

So I have been playing a face hunter deck.  I either forfeit if I mulligan bad or if I am not completely dominating after round 3.

The rest of the time I just in by turn 5 or 6.

I hate playing against agro decks they are not fun to play against.  I think the problem with an agro deck is you can beat them if you draw the right cards in the first 3 turns, but if you don't you lose.  Now on the other hand agro decks don't care too much what their starting hand is so statistically they have a much more consistent game.

On the other hand playing an agro deck does help you munch through quests and ladder pretty quickly.  I will play agro hunter decks while watching TV.  I don't even pay attention to what my opponent is playing and if it doesn't look like I can win by say turn 5 I just quit and go again.

Oh and if blizzard reads this ... I play agro decks to get gold so I do not have to purchase content so your business model for allowing agro decks is probably hurting your bottom line.

posted a message on So while I am playing a game I thought I would make this post...

So I am currently playing an arena game and I made a mistake and my opponent capitalized on it.  I have no chance of winning, no big deal, and I was about to just quit and mov on when  this person starts spamming thank you thank you..sorry, sorry.  It seemed kinda mocking so I thought I would just let my turn sit and make this post.   What makes you walk away from the game?  Should I have just quit instead of making this person wait the max time needed to finish me off?  What do you think?

Gotta love all the people instantly attacking the OP for a simple question. All he wanted to know is whether F2P players would be able to keep up with expansions. Instead we get a bunch of losers automatically making assumptions about his moral character and financial situation. Do you have such low self-esteem that you feel the need to prove that spending money on a video game is morally superior?

The answer is not a clear yes or no. Hearthstone is a relatively new card game and at the moment does not offer as much variety or ability for home brewing as others. There's a reason 90% of ladder is made of net decks. Over time however I predict home brewing will become a lot more effective with increased card diversity. What does this mean for F2P players? It means there will be greater opportunity to innovate new decks. And if more new decks are being played then I sub-par purely F2P deck has a better chance.

Now do I believe Hearthstone will allow F2P players to keep up? Certainly. Arena, as most people will tell you,is an extremely effective way of gaining gold and dust which also eliminates any P2W advantages. I myself do not have a full collection but it's mostly because I stopped playing for a very long time.

I thought this thread was pretty respectful for the most part.  I think most people are just trying to give a perspective on the game is all.  I agree with you that there is no clear yes or no.  In my post I am explaining that if you are F2P then you need to temper your expectations.  You are not going to get to legend, but you can still have fun and be competitive within the F2P people.  Rank 10 puts you in the top 25% of all players and if you can hit that with F2P then you should be pretty happy.

I didn't realise rank 10 put you in top 25%. That makes me feel a lot better about not playing too much F2P and not having the cards to compete at a legend level with anything but a hunter or lock!

Yeah I was seriously about to throw my machine against the wall until I realized I wasn't doing too bad.  Also, the top players around legend rank only have a win rate slightly above 50% which means they lose ALOT.  What is funny is there is a large percentage of people that cant make it past rank 20...I sleep my way to rank 20

I should add that I am hoping I am slightly better at building decks than other people and before people amass all the perfect cards to make a fine tuned deck I can put together a great desk with the hodge podge of cards I will get with my 1700 gold allowing me to be slightly better on the ladder during the Month of December.
