Durandil is right. Spellpower does not affect anything that isn't damage. It will affect things like Lightning bolt, but NOT things like Claw, Bloodlust, Holy Nova's healing, or Mark of Nature.

posted a message on Going First vs Second (The Coin overpowered?)

    Quote from MSW112 »

Reasons I could think of for priests is a 7/7 on turn 2:

    Turn 1: Tank draenei 0/4
    Turn 2: Shield, Inner fire -> 7/7
Mindcontroling big players on turn 8, because they can damage your opponent right away.

It is still only a small margine of advantage, though.

Going second in this case doesn't matter. You can do this going first. Inner Fire + Power Word: Shield is 2 mana and the 0/4 is 1 mana. That also seems like an oddly specific hand to make a 5% difference. That's so easily stoppable by Ironbeak that it's not even funny either. I mean sure, you get 7 damage in, but then you are successfully 3 for 0'ing yourself, since all it does is leave you with a 0/4 with no abilities and they can just ignore it, or kill it if they are worried of another Inner Fire. If you go second with that, you used 3 of your (at the time) 5 cards in hand on that combo. I appreciate the idea, but it's definitely not the reason why Priest has an advantage.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, anyone else have an idea as to why Priest would also be winning 55% of the time going second?

There is a Blue post about this. Blizzard gave hard proof that it is VERY even. The only classes that have a significant advantage going second are Priest and Rogue. Why Priest? I have no idea. Rogue is obvious. I agree with Rapidwhale though, it depends on the mana curve and your starting hand. If you have a very aggressive deck and you go second, you get a nice boost to 2 mana for one turn, but your opponent can react with 2 mana next turn, and you only get a 2 drop the next turn. It's actually really well balanced in my opinion. I like most of what they did with the coin.

The main problem I see with it is the fact that Ringleader is just way too hard to remove as some classes, which is why Rogue has a ~55% win rate going second. Priest pretty much HAS to 2 for 1 that, and that's IF you have Shadow Word: Pain and are willing to use it on a 2/3 vanilla. Even if you do have it, you still need to have something to deal with the 2/1, which could, in most cases, be Acolyte of Pain or something low-mana cost that gains value from healing. If you have both of those in your starting hand, you can stabilize from just the ringleader. We aren't even counting anything else they play like Backstabbing anything you play, other creatures like Novice Engineer, etc.

Anyways, enough of me ranting about my Priest problems.

TL;DR: Going second has a slight advantage if I remember the Blue post correctly, and that slight chance is less than a percent of matches if memory serves. That statistic bars Priest and Rogue, who each have a ~55% win ratio when going second.

posted a message on What makes attacking creatures change positions?

It's confirmed to be a bug. It's on their list of "known bugs" and even though the visual changes, the actual value saved for which minion is where never changes, so if you play something that deals with adjacent minions. Go off of the original order, not necessarily the displayed on. If this starts happening, I would either memorize the order or write it down.

posted a message on How to place solo minion with battlecry that buffs others?

I didn't know there was a problem with this. I have yet to need to do anything but just play the creature. Dark Iron Dwarf can also buff enemy minions, so if they had anything, you would need to buff it. As for the Youthful Brewmaster... I don't have an idea as to why it would do that. Maybe send in a ticket to Blizz?

I'm in master ranks. I thought I only played against master ranked people... Meh

Everybody who plays Ranked is in masters if they play enough, as long as they win every now and then. It's not a " I'm 3 stars masters = I'm good" It's "I'm 3 stars master = I played a lot" Until they implement the sc2 or some such system then ranked and it's ranks means nothing unfortunately.

So the ranking system just counts number of wins at the moment? Well THAT's lame. Why did they bother with adding the option to ranked then? It's just misleading for those watching. >.> I thought I was actually better than most for being Master 2... I assumed that since SCII had an actual ladder system in Beta that this would as well. Guess I expected too much?

5-3 as druid, So had to pay one fee but since then it's been 7-9 wins, worst was a 2-3, the rng gods of drafting decided to take a dump on me xD

My only background was countless hours(and I do mean countless..) of watching twitch and finding the good players, which ended up being Trump only. The rest does a lot of miss plays some less but Trump the least so stuck with his stream.

Almost the exact same for me. Most of mine are 7-9 wins and my worst was 2-3. I just got the WORST luck and RNGesus hated me in that draft. I went up against a few T1 Ringleaders with only 4-drops in hand after mulling Q_Q Such is life. Ya can't win 'em all. My other worst was my attempt at a priest for fun, went 4-3 :P

Yu-Gi-Oh when I was young... I had some weird Dragon based deck. Not competitive.

I've played MTG for 5 years now. At first I played RDW Kiln Fiend edition, then casual 60 standard with friends. I moved to EDH soon after and haven't really left. I did play a mono-green Legacy elf deck for a month or so, but nobody played Legacy in my area(should have looked at that first) so I traded it all off to make more EDH decks. After RTR I made a Junk Tokens for standard, but that didn't last too long since I needed to get 4x Voice for the deck... And I didn't like the deck that much.

As for EDH decks, I have made way too many. I had Oona tribal, Karador, Riku, Ezuri, Kalitas tribal, Damia, Horde of Notions Planeswalkers, Zegana, Kaalia, New Rakdos, Dromar, Aurelia, Jor Kadeen, Melek, Rosheen Meanderer and probably others that I can't remember.

Then he was playing the deck wrong ;) This deck cares not for the worries of man(Or minion in this case). It just punches the other player for as much damage as possible.

As the deck's description says, this is the closest thing I could create to MTG's Red Deck Wins. It is a deck that rarely cares about creatures on board and the only time it does is when they are Taunts. You just armor past the damage and swing for the fences. Have fun!

PS: I nicknamed the deck Fister because all it did was punch people in the face. I could also call it Knuckle Sandwich, but Fister was funnier to my friend who helped create the deck.

Scrapped until there are more cards created for the deck. This deck just can't win unless it gets lucky and the opponent plays nothing but 3> power creatures, and not very many of them. Since that never happens... This deck doesn't function.

The spell based control gets dominated against Rogue, which seems to be the most commonly played class. Even after getting a great Mass Dispel off on a 7/7 Questing Adventurer and a 13/13 VanCleef, I still lost. Until Priest receives buffs, that deck isn't going anywhere. That archetype is getting scrapped for now.

I'm going to test the creature-heavy and the middle-ground versions tomorrow.

I've edited each of my three deck lists. I have one that is spell heavy, one that is creature heavy and one that is a middle-ground. I'm going to test each of them to see which archetype of Priest control is best.
