posted a message on Disappointed with Gwent's UI

spot on here... i tried gwent in closed beta and again in open beta i logged in briefly last night.  I can't really get myself into it, I appreciate the nuance of the round system and the game itself.  However, the ui is clunky feeling... especially the collection manager.  These feel like deal breakers to me... I am not a competitive player and hearthstone is fun, it does have a lot of rng but I don't mind that.  A good ui experience I think is one of the most important qualities for me.  I mean gwent has the same game board for every match... I personally look forward to another game board being added to the rotation every expansion.  It's clicking on those clickables during a variety of matches that really help ease any boredom, frustration, etc that could be there if your staring at that grown set of rows over and over.

posted a message on Max McCall on Keywords in Standard Format

I don't understand the anger over this... I mean wild will have every keyword created... who cares whether standard still prints it.  They didn't say they would never ever ever print an inspire card again, just that they don't want a set that has 20 keywords in it... they want each set to feel unique.  It's unlikely they will ever have another inspire card printed.  I think what they are trying to do is keep core mechanics limited to a few keywords, and then unique set ideas that match a theme to another set of keywords... and there is no point printing inspire in an adapt set... and adapt will not be printed in a "xyzkeyword" themed set.  Makes sense to me.

posted a message on Need help to decide which packs to buy?

buy classic packs until you hit a legendary. Then swap right over to ungoro. Remember that once you hit a legendary you may have to wait a full 40 packs (pity timer) to get a new one. It could be much less and 20 packs is the average. I would recommend tracking how many packs you have opened since a legendary per set. Classic packs are worth more until you get about 80 percent of the rares then swap to the latest set. I would also save up and buy karazhan since if you don't have it you should at least get wing 1 so that it will never dissapear in the symtore for you when it rotates

posted a message on Are the mid ranks (20-5) harder now?

Rankings are relative to other players.  So if 97.5 percent of people do not reach rank 5... then rank 5 and below can never be mid-ranks as this is not relative to other players.  Rankings in ladder are not directly correlated to skill (they do to some degree, but there is the win streak bonus system)  Also some players do not grind games hours upon hours to rank up, some just play for fun an hour or so every other day (as they have lives, wives, kids, jobs, other hobbies, etc).  The mid ranks would be whatever rank that at the end of the season said you were in the top 50 percent of the player base... which is probably 18 or so I would guess.  I want to clarify what I am saying as well.  Ranks here is not correlated to skill, but your position on a ladder compares to other players.. so ranks 1-5 may contain people of moderate skill, but they are still in the top of the player base on the ranked ladder.  Those at rank 10-20 are in the average ranks of the player base (mid ranks), but may be composed of people with little skill, moderate skill, or alot of skill (depends where they spend there time and how much they spend in the game).

A reminder to everyone on here too, do not start spouting the fact that it was easy for "YOU" to make it to rank 2 in just 14 hours of gameplay in a month playing a fast netdeck.  Let's be friendly to each other, and other's.  We must remember that ranks do not equal skill, they are best described as a product of skill, deck quality, time, and luck.  Time spent playing ranked * power level of deck * skill level of player * luck with win streaks = rank.   This means you can have a high skill level and be at rank 17, or a low skill level and be at rank 5.

posted a message on Hearthstone Patch 5.2.2 - Free Packs Event?

could it be that the change set_rotation_2016_free_packs = set_rotation_2016_free_packs  is just changing it so it reads the value from a server config file instead.  So they have ability to re-use this toggle without patching in the future?  They can change the value on the server side at a moments notice maybe to add free packs on rotation of any new sets being introduced.  Maybe?
