Anyone find out if Dred hits Jaraxxus? I haven't faced the situation yet, but I imagine it will be the same as Potion of Polymorph, with Jaraxxus' battlecry occurring before Dred's effect takes place, meaning Dred doesn't attack a played Jaraxxus.
I'm hoping Dred does hit him, because that could clinch a lot of matches vs the new questlock.
I'm totally on board with you in the whole "how could they let pirates survive???" rhetoric, but there are loads of new anti-aggro cards that fit into a lot of decks. I'm running a quest hunter (and not a pure face hunter that happens to run quest) and I have Bloodsail Corsairs and Gluttonous Oozes that have really shaken up pirate decks. Did I have to be lucky? Absolutely: pirate warrior is mindless card dumping and face smashing.
I think as long as the community continues to work on solutions, Blizzard will eventually make changes. But we can't stop at salt posts like this (legitimate though they may be).
The same goes for Jade Idol, btw; even in the new meta, that card needs to get a nerf, because infinite jades for 1-cost is a massively broken mechanic (and the whole reason pirate warrior was ever created).
I hope you find some decks that let you conquer pirate warriors and still enjoy the game! And if you find a deck, I know there are a lot of us out here who would appreciate it. A lot of us would be happy to flood the meta and chase pirate warrior out of tier 1.
I think just about every wild deck could benefit from a few Un'Goro cards. Un'Goro is the entire reason the new Hall of Fame cards got sent to Wild; the synergy is primed for wildly OP combos that the meta chasers in Standard would immediately flock to, essentially stagnating the game until the next expansion.
Nope, they want to get rid of these cards because they are good basic-cards. So if players have less playable cards in the classic-set they are forced to buy more packs (and yes, i know you get dust, but this is more of an long-term issue for them). Ragnaros/Sylvanas would find always space in some standard-deck, and they rather want people buy new ones. Also in tournaments naturally they also want people showing off the new cards so tha people buy them. It's all about $$$ sadly!
I mean, Blizzard is a company that needs to make money, so of course they'd encourage perpetual change for profit, but I don't think it's the only or even predominant reason behind the incoming standard rotation and Hall of Fame. Gaming companies have proven time and again that creating games solely for profit will never make the money that making a well-executed game does (ever hear of E.T. for Atari?). I'm not saying Hearthstone is perfect, but I do think it'll be better off if we as players are pushed to become more creative and less reliant on staples that everyone worships. It's an attempt to combat the problem of meta-worshipping and people just flocking to whatever wins (see: Undertaker Hunter, Jade Druid, Pirate Warrior, and Mech Mage are some examples). We can't pretend that 3 1/2 years of auto-including Sylvanus, Ragnaros, and Azure Drake isn't a signifier that we as a community are becoming lazy and choosing guaranteed wins over creativity and player interaction.
TL;DR = Blizzard had two reasons for this: money, and fostering creativity and change in a game that was beginning to stagnate. This isn't just a money grab.
Jade Idol is really one of the cases where Blizzard needs to stop touting their mistakes as good designs and stop talking about how "balanced" they think it is, and just admit the community fucking hates it and nerf it. Sometimes game decisions need to be made not just on statistics but about what the community wants. Fuck Jade archetype and fuck Jade Idol.
We need the last line added to every Jade card, and to replace the text on Jade idol with this only.

A discover version of Unstable Portal that gives spells instead of minions? Nice. I have no doubt people will scream for this to get nerfed if Quest Mage (let's just be honest and call it OTK mage) hits tier 1 (which I kind of doubt, but who knows)
Violet Illusionist synergy! Also, I see this getting more play in Wild than Standard, given that renolock has been banished, but we'll see once April 6th comes.
Right! That's what I was referring to. I'm hoping the second 1-cost minion is a completely new 1-drop and not just Raptor Patriarch from Raptor Hatchling. And if it's a minion with a card draw battlecry or deathrattle, then the quest won't potentially set quest hunters up for an empty and and board.
If Blizzard makes the second new 1-cost Hunter minion a card draw minion, this quest just got that much more viable. rn, zoo hunter will struggle vs pirates and control / taunt decks.
Interesting Druid option for a huge minion. I'm swapping this in place of Ragnaros the Firelord for my non-meta Jade Druid. This will play well with Kun the Forgotten King. Also, this could bring about some interesting beast Druid decks. Think of a Menagerie Warden play on this!
Also, this could bring about Ancient Harbinger and Alarm-o-Bot resurfacing, which would be super fun, but it all depends on the meta. Pirates hyper-aggro will still ruin the viability of cards like this if they aren't well-countered to discourage their popularity and prominence in the metagame.

I see this running in quest Pally and priest

Control hunter needs to happen either this expansion or next

It will take a seriously hyper-aggro meta to make this card anything less than a major player come April 6th.
May pirate Warrior die, may Hunter bring back a reasonable aggro, and may Un'Goro help squash the broken mechanic that is Jade.

Baron Rivendare but better! Now you get double deathrattles in a new format: once as a battlecry and again as a regular deathrattle.
Awesome neutral legendary!

Brawl synergy? Eh, possible, but could lead to serious disappointment.
Whirlwind synergy? Nice.
Getting a Frothing Berserker and an Armorsmith on the board before this and then dropping a Whirlwind could result in a major play for control warrior.
We'll have to see what the new meta will allow.
