My theory: Up until yesterday this card (1) summoned boom bots or (2) put bombs in you opponents deck. Bliz realized that was insane and changed at the least minute to armor gain. Hence the image not matching the text and the terrible card consistent with Blizzard over-nerfs
I thought that too, because that's the only thing that makes sense.
Also the title of the card, Dr. Boom's Scheme sounds like it should be shuffling bombs. What part of gaining armor is schemey at all?
Very lazy. They should've held off on revealing this card and made it part of the dump at the end so they could have time to do a proper rework.
I completely agree with everything OP said. I would even go further and say that the "Genn and Baku problem" has already been solved, as no decks using these cards feels oppressive. It seems like they've decided to all of fame them to free up design space rather than to balance the meta. As it is, it feels nicely balanced and leaves quite some room for experimentation. As you said, quite a few new decks that have risen to prominence or even been created recently have found success. And you can have fun, I feel, without being punished for it. For instance, I went from 5 to 3 with a Snowfury Giant/Spirit of the frog Shaman which certainly isn't in any tier list. So yes, Blizzard should surely be credited for their recent work...
Sadly though, and as the few answers to your post quite blatantly show, the community is full of netdecking and lazy players that play whatever is on top of the tier lists and then complain when the list starts looking roughly the same for several weeks in a row. Its a shame, really. I feel that Hearthstone as a game is under appreciated because players behave like sheep and then complain its all the same.
Yeah, but they were "solved" by massive nerfs targeting decks that used genn/baku. Not exactly ideal..
The weapon's deathrattle says it gives your minions rush, so it's permanent. If it said give your minions rush this turn, it would go away at the end of the turn.
The entire notion of cards that provide a benefit based on deck construction limitations is a terrible idea and should be scrapped. It started with the Reno Jackson cash grab and only intensified with 18 months of machine gun Anduin, followed by the current Dr 2 and Odd decks. Can't remember the idiot's name, one of the devs, but he went on record saying that they 'added' 18 decks to the meta with their shit for brains gimmick. In reality, few classes utilize all 3 variants (even, odd, neither) and instead gravitate toward the most advantageous. I mean, is there such a thing as even warrior, odd shaman?
Yeah... certain classes don't benefit enough from a reduced cost / upgraded hero power.
I think out of thousands of games since the release of baku/genn I've faced an even warrior 2 times, and an odd shaman just 1 time. All 3 opponents lost pretty miserably.
Well, I been playing this and i'm 9-3 so far (around rank 5-3). The most I ever did was whack an armored up taunt druid 6 times in the face for 9 a pop after clearing a wall of taunts with 3 gonks on board and still had a few extra attacks remaining).
Got quite a few "Wow" emotes while I was doing the combo. Definitely not something anyone expects at this point.
Yeah, if the text on the card is accurate, they are immune on your opponent's turn. Your opponent's turn == turn they're summoned. And it's summoned, not played.

A card that's not dead for 10 turns after you draw it is a better life saver.

Greater healing potion is playable and has been in decks, because you don't need to hold it for 11 turns for it be useful.

Why would anyone play this over shield block?
Pretty terrible card. Also the art is terrible considering it's an armor gain card..

Since they're already refunding the cards why not take this opportunity to do a slight nerf to them as well?
The card text could be changed to
Start of Game: WHILE your deck contains only odd/even cards, your starting hero power costs 1/is upgraded.
Doesn't kill the card, but makes counter play possible by stuffing cards into your opponent's deck.

I would say genn/baku is pretty damn drastic.

In some ways time out is a worse offender since you can't destroy it.

7 mana 5/6
Start of Game: If your deck has only odd-Cost cards, disable all hero powers for the duration of the game.

My opponent had 3 health left, and I quick shot. All the MILFs turned on me and attacked me and I lost the game. I guess you did give fair warning!
