posted a message on Best Advice to give Newbies. Do not spend money on this game.

I think many miss the point of the OP.

It is not a discussion about F2P vs P2W, it is not a discussion about expensive vs cheap model.

I think his point was: After spending the money he thinks it was not worth it. And this is the advice he giving.

I can relate, because I am currently thinking the same thing. I started this game looking for a competitive game, but was sadly disappointed. I do not want to start a discussion of Skill vs. RNG, but I think we can agree that skill makes a difference in not more than 50 percent of the time. Which is why I am disappointed, and decided not to spend any more money on this game. As I did not yet decide if I want to continue playing or give it up completely, I still play a lot to collect enough gold, to avoid having to spend further money.

posted a message on Capri Paladin

I like your idea. Very fun to play, especially that I like playing paladin.

A few notes though after 2-8 losing streak.

    1. I think barnes has very little synergy in this deck, especially with the random legendaries, so I am glad you removed him.
    2. Most of my losses were with a full hand of very high value cards against opponents with empty hands, so I would suggest cutting the cold light oracles. (I cut them for forbidden healings)
    3. Nzoth has synergy with 3 cards out of your 35-card deck. SO I often have him with little or medium value at 10 mana, otherwise it is a dead draw. I took him out. with a 35-card deck and elise you should have no problem against a control deck, even without nzoth.
    4. As mentioned above I usually have a very full hand, so I added emperor thaurissan and twilight drake for their effect and to improve the midgame/early late game.

Other than that, it is a very fun deck to play. I am enjoying it a lot (in spite of the losses :) )

posted a message on Hearthstone Players Over Age 40?

Hi, 43 years old. I have three kids.

I used to be an international bridge player, before I had to quit because of my (real) job. Went into HS looking for a game of skill similar to bridge, but HS has been huge disappointment till now. I still play nevertheless because it is a lot fun, without having to be competitive.

posted a message on End the Yogg-hate & RNG-hate (For serious Discussion)

OP: thanks for a well written post. All important aspects concerning Yogg were discussed very well in this post.

Still I would like to make a few points not yet discussed.

    1. We cant ignore the sample size. When I play tens of games on ladder, then I have no problem playing with or against Yogg, because with the larger sample size tends to even out his unpredictable effect. But in a tournament setting things are different. First: 1 game can decide your whole tournament run. So loosing to extreme RNG feels VERY bad. Second: People who play tournaments are not interested in excitement or the rush of it, but are usually interested in proving their skill. So HUGE RNG is not a good thing.
    2. OP: in your 5th point you claim that keeping the skill cap low encourages new players. This is simply not true. When new players know that they have a random chance to beat any opponent regardless of the skill difference, this may encourage them to start the game. But they should also know that after they spend time and / or money to gain cards and improve in a game, newer less skilled players will beat them using this same RNG. I thinks this should be a big discouragement. So every new player will know that in the long run HS is a bad investment of your time and money. This cannot be good for business.

I guess the difference is why everyone chose to play this game. Everyone is looking to have fun. There are those looking for fun through the rush and excitement and there are others who are looking for fun through testing their skill and winning against others. I guess Blizzard chose to target the former and screw over the latter.

posted a message on Fast ways to get dust?

Blizzard want either your money or your time to give you dust / cards. If you invest neither, you will get nothing.

Their business model is simply based on testing our patience.

posted a message on Still new to Hearthstone. Looking for advice.

I was in you shoes a few months ago. So here are my 2 cents worth.

Do not over invest in buying the better cards. They will just relocate the barrier you are feeling from level 20 to 15-13.

Invest more time in improving your game and understanding the basic concepts of the game. For example when to trade and how to trade efficiently. A very good deck for this is a zoolock. It is a minion heavy deck where you are basically trading all the time (almost).

Give yourself time and be patient. It is a really difficult game.

Try reading a lot of guides. and here is a small recommendation:

Have fun and go easy on yourself.

posted a message on Are you happy with the future of Hearthstone?

I am still undecided. I can see their reasons but I am not sure I like it.

As a relatively new player (6 months) I am more worried about my invested money and how much I will need to invest every year to have (most of) the cards needed for competitive decks.

I can probably save enough gold for about 340-360 Packs per year. So using this gold in addition to dust from De older cards I think this should cover 1 expansion per year, and then I will only need to buy any adventures.

If it boils down to this, I wont complain. But I have to say it is rapidly reaching the monetary limit I set for this game. So I guess in conclusion:

    1) I will stop every investment (buying packs and crafting) in the game until I can better evaluate the changes.

    2) I think the they will gain some new players, but will definitely lose some of the old.

Maybe I'll just return to playing bridge.
