At least it's not an all-classes card to be "forced" to be used by everyone. Those "highlander" decks are unclear to me if they should even be allowed. Their synergy is terrible; new accounts can't play them (unless they massively pay-to-win it); they seem like ugly monstrosities of bad synergy that mainly rely on "lol most of my cards are OP".
Ummmm.....what? They’re the antithesis of “lol most of my cards are op” by literal design. They’re actually “lol most of my cards are decent” for the upside of a couple of them being “op.”
If reno is actually meta I'm out. I've been around a reno meta before and it's the worst.
Can you elaborate? The Reno meta is never the same because all the Reno cards did different things. What is so bad about it lol. And the decks are generally value decks. What do they actually do that makes it a bad meta?
Reno meta’s are infinitely better than oppressive otk metas.
Priest will play shadow word, but I’m amazed how many people think rogue will.
It’s 1 less mana than crabatoa, and even he doesn’t make all excavate lists due to cost. Excavate wants to dump its hand, and an expensive card that replaces itself likely won’t make the cut.
Mech rogue VERY obviously won’t run it.
It’s a value card, and value rogue never works when it’s not massively cheating mana like scorp does.
Good luck being an aggro player beating a control deck full of other healing and board clears, that has an inevitable heal 10 coming. Control/combo decks don’t need to pull their combo off to beat aggro, they just need to live.
Excavate lock will beat an aggro deck just through value from treasures and board control.
I’m not trashing the game despite the name of the thread. It’s a good game but after almost ten years of playing, I just cannot get into anymore. It the same 6-7 net decks starting in the lowest tier of play as soon as the expansion drops. Every single expansion just feels the same and it doesn’t feel like the game hasn’t really evolved in any meaningful way in the last 3-4 years.
again I think a great card game and I’ve been paying and playing since the preorder bundles started. Which I don’t mind, but it just feels a stale. I’ve tried duels which is kinda fun and I pop on battlegrounds occasionally. I just think the standard format needs some love.
Anyone have recommendations on an alternative for a while?
Complaining about net decking when it comes to card games will get you no where (again, when it comes to cars games). There’s not a single card game in existence where this will not be the case.
The reason being, of course, is that for each class in hearthstone, there will always be a “perfect 30.” Now, there may be some adjustments along the way, a card or two, to account for the meta for the day, but generally there is a best 30.
Warrior just got a new minion called Steam Guardian, which draws a spell and reduces the cost of a fire spell in hand on a 3/3 body for 3. It's an entirely reasonable card until you realize that Blackrock 'n' Roll is a fire spell, and so you can create a deck that has only one spell, which means that you can super-consistently curve a turn-3 Guardian into a turn 4 Blackrock n Roll, then just drop haymakers for the rest of the game. I've been playing this shell for a while and it makes the old Prince Keleseth days look pathetic by comparison.
How is this a “horrible mistake” when that deck is like tier 4 at best? Lol this is why blizz (thank god) does not listen to the randoms of the forums.

It’s been a lower tier deck, but if it’s ever viable, stone drake is real good in taunt warrior. Really, really good.

This is among the...weirder takes. That’s like saying “why does priest get more healing, why does it need more, HUNTER HAS ALMOST NO HEALING.”
Two words. Class identity.

I don’t want to be the first one to say that this is bananas with astalor, but this is bananas with astalor.

Quick pick is nuts. Shiv on a stick twice.

Lol this is just killing the card and nothing more.

Dormant minions can’t get poofed, but it is bad.

I can list off the things every class can do to stop/kill this, but if you play the game regularly, you should be aware of them.
Its also an IMMEASURABLY horrible top deck, and is really only ever decent at best on turn 4 exactly (that you’re also just passing playing this).
I guarantee you, in any sort of even somewhat competitive play, this hits face in less than 5% of the games it’s played.
It’s an absurdly bad legendary, and confirms that Odyn warrior will remain their go-to.

People constantly underestimate mana in this game.
Dropping a 5/4 on 4 while clearing a minion is a chasm better than doing so on 5.
3 mana draw 2, ehh. 2 mana draw 2, insane. Same principle

This deep, productive, and insightful commentary is sure to further the conversation in ways never thought possible.

This applies to all card games.
