After thinking about this card a lot, I'm going to make a bold prediction and say that this card is going to be insane, and is the most underrated card of the set, for one reason: a big dragon priest deck.

This card is actually insane when pulled off of barnes or shadow essence, and you can have two of them in deck. This card, ysera, both deathwings, malygos, maybe even primordial drake if you run silence effects in your deck, can be amazing pulls for 4 or 6 mana. Dealing with this card and a full dragon on turn 4 or turn 6 is really hard to do (if pulled from shadow essense, its a 5/5 that recruits a dragon every turn for 6 mana, which is insane), and has crazy snowball potential. The deck could even run an inner fire/divine spirit combo for quick kills, given that dragons have so much health. Nethersprite historian can maybe be used to pull out smaller dragons for earlier turn plays if your combo doesn't work out, and the rest of the deck can be removal. Once one of these guys die, getting it off of eternal servitude is also pretty great.

This is probably a subpar 9 mana play, but might be really good with barnes and shadow essense.

Feels like you'd prefer Y'sharrj for that. What does this do that he doesn't, other than not rotate at the same time? Or are there non-dragons you might run but not want to cheat out? Ysera from this feels bad in that you don't get the first trigger, though she is hard to kill along with the summoner fellow.
You could run all three and give yourself better odds of pulling out something good, and running more threats? The fact that you can run two dragoncatchers gives you better chances of pulling it out. This deck concept is very top heavy right now, and might be relying on getting barnes on 4 too much, but I think there's something there.

If you recruit Ysera with this minion, does Ysera's effect trigger? If so, it may not be quite as bad as it seems, your opponent has to deal with it immediately or basically lose the game, and it provides a bit of insurance if there's a legendary dragon your deck is banking on getting out, but that dragon sometimes appears in the bottom of your deck.

Still overcosted by at least 1 mana, but could have a very specific niche in a deck, maybe.

I will 100% put this in a deck if I open one of these cards. It probably won't be that good, but it should be hilarious, and in a control mage deck, might have surprisingly good results sometimes. Or maybe it will just pyroblast your face. Either way sounds fun.

posted a message on Ever Worth Believing a Friend Request?

I accept friend requests, also sent them a couple times. Most of the time people just wanna insult you, but every once in a while you can have a fun discussion about your respective decks. I will sometimes friend someone if I see them playing a particularly new or innovative deck, especially if it beat me in a close game, because I'll want to know more about how its constructed and how it plays.

If you're ok with being insulted or flamed, there's no real downside to accepting the request, just laugh at the people who insult you, and realize that they're being awful human beings who have nothing better to do than take out their anger on other people through text chat because of a card game. It's... pretty pitiful honestly. So if they flame you, just laugh, they'll usually unfriend you immediately anyway. If they want to talk to you about your deck, hey, why not, it can be a fun conversation.

posted a message on Group therapy! Need to blow off steam? Mega salty? Here is the place!

Just had turn 2 keleseth followed by turn 3 captain/patches played against me three times in a row, once a warrior, twice rogue, also ran up against it in priest and warlock a few times today. I'm not even playing a different deck against a different class, its all the same deck, and it either kills you by turn 10 or stalls out, and if it high rolls, its pretty much unbeatable.

At least its a change from jade, but come on people, so many fun things to try, and you decide to do what literally everyone else is doing? Try something new! Do something fun, because right now, this game really isn't that fun outside of arena. Personally, I blame jade idol, because it creates a meta where you either need some insane midgame tempo, or insane early game aggression to win. Control decks that peak late game (my favorite kind of deck) are basically unplayable right now, its super annoying.

My deckbuilding also probably is terrible, but at least I'm trying! Ughhh. I'm done for today.

Very interesting card. I like the concept of it, life is something I want to gain more of when I play elemental mage. Not sure its better than firefly though. Might experiment with it, doubt I'll keep it in.

This "targets chosen randomly" spell garbage has to go.  Get it out of the game.

I don't mind it in this case, because in this case, you actually do have control of the targets, just by choosing spells that don't have targets. This card can get secrets out of your deck and in play, can cast auto flamestrikes and blizzards, can cast mind control and free from amber, and do a ton of great effects that guarantee won't backfire on you. You don't want to run this card with pyroblast or fireball unless you're really in to the memes, but with a good deck, this card is actually pretty great.

posted a message on New Mage Spell - Lesser Ruby Spellstone

I've been experimenting with an elemental mage deck recently that runs a lot of elementals, and I would put this in here. Most of the time I think I could make it a cabalist tome for 2. This isn't enough to push elemental mage above jade druid on its own, but I'm pretty optimistic for this card.

First stage is a frostwolf grunt, definitely below curve, but not useless. Second stage is a 2 mana 4/4, which is great. Third stage is incredible.

If you can consistently upgrade this once, its a good card, but you'll probably need to run it in a deck with a lot of healing, limiting its usefulness to very specific decks.

posted a message on New Rogue Legendary - Sonya Shadowdancer

I agree with the consesnsus, this is a great combo card. This isn't an on curve play, but rogue has a ton of minions with crazily powerful battlecries, and if you can get even one of them to survive, you can get a 1 cost van-clef, a 1 cost vilespine slayer, a 1 cost bonemare, etc. I think this is better than shadowcaster because its cheaper, and because it can copy multiple minions. It won't survive more than one turn, but it doesn't need to in order to be worthwhile.

Also, this comboes with valeera the hollow really well.

Hmm... I dunno. I think its playable, and its better than potion of polymorph, but is it that much better than potion of polymorph to see play? I'm not sure. I think this is playable in secret mage or burn mage, but I think its true value is its a good card to discover from discover effects. Its a slight buff to cards like primordial glyph.

If aggro mage becomes a thing, I think this could see play in it, but this needs the face damage to be relevant to be good, otherwise its just a slightly better potion of polymorph or mirror image, and those don't see play usually.

posted a message on Ideal Card Design Discussion

Recently, someone posted a thread about wanting a nerf to patches (to 2 mana), which I think most of us agree that would be the wrong way to nerf him (regardless of if you think he deserves a nerf or not, I personally don't, but that's not what this thread is about), since cards that win or lose you the game depending on where you draw them in your deck are generally not the most fun cards to play. However, this got me thinking a bit, is blizzard applying some incorrect design philosophies with tech cards and big swing cards, and if you were in charge of the game, would you change the way they work?

The way Blizzard creates tech cards is that they want slightly underpowered minions to be really good in certain situations, and they use these cards to prevent strategies from being overpowerd. Hungry crab, gollaka crawler, eater of secrets, big game hunter, and skulking geist are barely playable to downright understatted cards for their mana cost, but can pretty much instantly win you the game if they get played in the right situation. This is because they usually have two effects, the first effect messes with your opponent and shuts down what they're doing, the second effect makes them overstatted minions in that situation. They basically win you the game if you play them in the right situations, and I don't know if that's all that fun to play.

Would the game be more interesting if instead of having two different positive effects in the situation you want to play them in, they had negative effects? Like, gollaka crawler, 2 mana 2/3, destroy a pirate, if you do, lose 1 health? Hungry crab, 1 mana 1/2, destroy a murloc, if you do, lose 1 health? Eater of secrets, 4 mana 4/5, destroy all enemy secrets, for each enemy secret you destroy, lose 1/1?

I'm just curious why blizzard decided to go in the direction they did, and create tech cards that swing the game so much that make matchups all the more polarizing. Do you think blizzard is right to go in the direction they did, or would you rather tech cards be more consistent while having less of a swing but still performing their purpose? I'm interested in hearing all of your thoughts on this.

posted a message on Why should Patches The Pirate be 2 mana costs?

Make Charrrrrrrge! a battlecry so it is just a dormant (still free) 1/1 when pulled out.

I like this suggestion the most out of all of them, patches is strong because you don't draw him, he just thins out your deck, so any nerf to patches should hit when he isn't drawn to make it less of a swing card. I'm not entirely sure patches is that broken, I mean, don't get me wrong, he's certainly one of the best cards in the game, but there are counters that exist and ways to slow pirates down, especially after war axe nerf.

posted a message on Is this normal behavior?

I mean, if I see a deck a lot and its really good or really polarizing, I can't say I'm happy to see it again. On the other hand, the person you were playing is exceptionally immature. It's a video game. Don't yell at other people playing the game, its not ok to do that.
