posted a message on What can we do to stop Pirates from ruling the meta again?

Golakka Crawler is pretty powerful and can actually counter their early game decently well. Blizzard actually made a playable card to counter a powerful archetype. Fills the two-drop slot in a lot of decks with shit early game, such as Priest or Shaman. Good synergies in Hunter and Druid. You can even play it in your Pirate Warrior to beat other Pirate Warriors. In short, much more tools for countering an aggro meta that did not exist pre-Un'Goro.

posted a message on Freeze Mage more Cancerous than Quest Rogue?

I don't know how Freeze Mage, a deck that takes 10+ turns to kill you and needs the most draw of any deck in the entire game, is more cancerous than an Aggro deck that kills you on turn 4. Quest Rogue is a high roll deck. Sure, if you're pretty bad at sequencing and don't bounce your target minion, then you'll probably fail with the deck. I've never really lost to Freeze Mage in 3/4 turns. It's much, much worse when the Rogue opens double Shadowstep double Swashburgler on turn 2. The game is over at that point.

Freeze Mage is one of the last decks in this game that doesn't play on curve and is actually difficult to play. It has visible counterplay and is weak against most decks with cheap healing effects. Even Priest can beat it if you manage your resources efficiently, though the matchup is quite difficult.

posted a message on Mage Aggro/Zoo

Alright, if this is "Zoo", then why do you have a card that cost 10 mana in your deck? Feels counterproductive to your plan.

The other issue that I have with this deck is that Mage as a class, is quite bad at being minion centric. The elemental tempo mages all have much higher curves than this one and tend to be better against midrange. Once you deplete your hand you don't have the staying power that Warlock does.

Take the deck to mid ladder ranks, somewhere around 12-9, and then you might actually have something. I feel that if you do, you'll see how much worse you perform against Midrange Hunter, Quest Rogue, Aggro Druid, etc. Even Midrange Paladin has more board presence than this deck can muster. Cool concept, but Mage just doesn't quite have the cards to support the type of deck you want to play. If you want a more consistent board based aggro deck that goes wide and makes little dudes bigger, try token Druid.

VS is tracking Token Druid with a 51% win-rate overall - it is heavily favoured against three of the top five decks on ladder, even against MR Hunter, but dominated by Quest Warrior. It seems like a good call for a meta-deck, provided the QW numbers don't rise too much.

It's a good pick for climbing at certain spots in ladder. Pretty good against Quest and Miracle Rogue because its just simply faster;  if they don't have bloodmage-prep-fan to kill your turn 2/3 board you can punish quite quickly. I agree that you need to highroll with this deck to beat Quest Warrior. Basically involves them not having a viable play until turn 4. If they land Alley Armorsmith the game is probably over for the Druid at that point. It's definitely a fun deck and at this point in time, prefer it to SMOrc Warrior if you're looking for a fast deck.

I did my rank 10-5 climb using Aggro Token Druid. Deck makes very few trades;  almost a pure SMOrc plan. I don't think enough people have spent time refining a powerful list. Once people get tired of Warrior and Rogue, the deck will get more attention. Hoping a bit slower build emerges that uses the new egg card.

What rank is this fun about ? Most people need a deck to climb the ladder. If you are talking about 10-20 then yes it's fun. Arround 4/5 you meet quest rogue/ PW/ facehuntard, aggro druid, taunt warrior. This control priest doesn't stand a chance against rogues without taunts(you have 2 - face eviscerate, done) or pirate warrior

How much have you actually playtested the deck? If you're actually curious about its success, then know that Chakki took it into a tournament format instead of Hunter. To me, that means he believes its actually effective in countering aggro/midrange decks moreso than playing midrange or aggro himself. Really wish you would do some research before making such ignorant comments.

    Three things.

the quest rouge is bad (less than 50% win rate)

    you try piloting a control

For your last complaint, decide a deck and craft it, or look for it in packs.

You are probably looking for this.

Control Warrior was bad except when it's Fibonacci. Priest is bad unless it's Kibler or Zetalot. If anyone is to find a good version of the deck, it's probably Ryzen. Many people have said that token archetypes are bad in the past, only for a single individual to show that, with a strong understanding on how to operate the deck, you can still find success regardless of how "bad" the community deems it to be.

Don't see why Lyra the Sunshard isn't in your list. Mid/Late game resource generation is quite powerful. Also, is Fel Orc Soulfiend any better than Injured Blademaster? Seems like the downside to Fel Orc is that is just dies too often, while Blademaster can create some more optimal trades by hitting the 4 attack damage mark, something that a lot of Priest minions have always struggled to create on board.

A whole post about our conversation? I'm so flattered!

You can take it that way, if you want. I just don't understand why someone refuses to actually try and improve at deckbuilding in sake of having fun, when the two are not mutually exclusive. J4ckiechan, Brian Kibler, Dog, and even Savjz are all known for being "casual/fun" streams, yet their decks are always built in a manner than emphasizes consistency and logic. Simply refusing to build a deck better, even though it still shares that same theme and is arguably just as fun, is ignorant and a mindset that I hope never catches on.
I want to reiterate I haven't refused any advice, at all. What your talking about is legitimate but your clearly not reading my responses, and you're clearly not getting the fact that this deck is working for me, and as i previous Said I am experimenting with other things so I am listening to you and others. So please don't call me ignorant, engage in the conversation don't dictate it
Okay, let me be a bit more clear then. Many people can take a "fun" deck a pilot it to legend. J4ckiechan is an excellent example. Piloting meme Priest from rank 8 to legend. Your definition of a deck "working" for you is not the same as what other people would deem it to be. Winning games at Rank 15-20 is better than some, but it is not the definition of success that most people seek. Why would you turn down the opportunity to be even more successful, just by changing out a few cards in the deck that have little to do with the macro lines the deck wishes to operate upon.

Don't get me wrong. In my first months of playing the game, I was overjoyed to make it to rank 15 with N'Zoth Priest, a deck deemed to be tier 4 at the time and possibly one of the worst decks in the entire game. But I was clearly not building the deck correctly, and it could have been constructed much better and given me that same satisfying experience, yet had a much better winrate overall.

I think that Wild is getting there, I actually just played one of the most enjoyable game I can remember (Shadow Reno Quest N'Zoth Kel'Thuzad Entomb etc. Priest mirror) but I don't know if there will ever be a place for fun in Standard. It's just the nature of the beast, and everyone has different opinions regarding "fun". For some, the only way to enjoy the game is to win, climb, reach rank 5 or Legend. I've never played a single face deck, reached Legend several times and got all my classes golden, but I've built so much frustration while trying to find balance between fun and efficiency that if there wasn't Wild I think I would have quit altogether.

I've only played the game for about a year now, but I've found joy in playing almost every single deck deemed slightly viable, from Aggro Shaman to N'Zoth Priest. That being said, I've always tried to prioritize making my terrible deck as viable as possible to beat whatever I was seeing on ladder the most. It irks me when people refuse to take the metagame into consideration, when you sacrifice very little to make your casual deck that much more viable.

posted a message on Opponents Get Better Draws From My Deck Than Me

Many different things to take into consideration when looking at thief RNG.

    1. Shaman has some of the best cards in the entire game. You've filled your deck with those cards. Chances are pretty heavily in their favor to obtain something that is both flexible and powerful.

    2. Tunnel visioning on results. The fact that you made this post at all is a reflection of your negative mindset atm. When you've lost too many games to RNG in a row, you overreact to the results of those few games and tilt as a result. Take some time to actually evaluate your plays and maybe even change up your mulligan strategies to counter specific matchups.

    3. Play a different deck. For the first time in the past year, Shaman does not sit upon the meta king throne. Meaning, there are other better decks that exist for you to play. Hunter and Druid for example. Both have ridiculously low curves, and run quite heavily on cards that work better in conjunction with one another, instead of having powerful synergistic effects. Make this into your advantage.

At the end of the day, thief RNG will never go away. It will almost always seem to favor the player stealing the card(s). But if you can't stand it, go play a different game.

posted a message on Fun decks do not have to be bad

Deckbuilding is one of the four tenants of the game that I believe someone must excel at to become a top tier player. While the advent of netdecking has allowed people to reach high ranks and succeed far beyond their original potential, those who have innovated in certain techs at key points in the month in order to counter a popular metagame have gone even further than that. An example of this would be Fibonacci's Control Warrior build when Aggro Shaman dominated the MSoG metagame.

Casual deckbuilding operates under those same guidelines. The casual playerbase is much larger than the competitive Hearthstone scene. So it would be no surprise that those who don't yearn to push to legend every month play a deck that they enjoy. Many people would deem a deck "bad" if it isn't tier 1 or 2. However, my stance on that mindset is completely different. I am of the belief that decks built for fun can also be good, if they have also taken the current metagame into consideration. So many deckbuilding posts on this site ask for help on their deck, but they've dismissed consistency and power level for cards that they've deemed as "fun". Building an entire deck with 25 different cards just because this one niche two-drop works in conjunction with three other one-of copies in your deck is not good deckbuilding. Building a deck based around sub-optimal strategies can be fun, absolutely. But your fun deck does not have to be bad, at least from a deckbuilding perspective.

Does anyone else feel this way? I'm sure that some people believe that any deck that isn't tier 1 is just absolute trash and should never be queued. But I believe that most individuals can climb with the deck that they've made themselves, so long as they've taken vital concepts of the current metagame into consideration.

posted a message on Killer Spell Priest is so versatile! Climbing the ladder!

The point we're trying to make is this: you can make a fun deck that is also viable. Why would you ever turn down an opportunity for a deck to be better, possibly be equally as fun, and also win more games because the deck is built better? Fun decks do not necessarily have to be bad, yet you seem to be forcing that issue here. There are many more viable Priest builds that have a similar theme, yet they're actually built with counterplay in mind, teched specifically to win certain unfavored match-ups. At the end of the day, you should propagate something that is fun, but is built in a manner that is correct.

    Quote from Janmark12 >>

"Dead again" ? what are you talking about? priest wasnt dead the last season? actually was tier 1. I really dont know why people always whine bout priest being an underpowered class. You are missing the facts here son

The OP was probably in response to the post-Whispers and post-Karazhan meta, where Priest saw both the lowest winrate and playrate of all nine classes. Moreover, Priest wasn't even close to tier 1 last expansion. Bottom of tier 2 at the very best.

With regards to OP, the reason you don't see Priest is because the class isn't very straightforward to play. Because your minions are so defensively statlined, being able to squeeze every single point of damage takes a bit more thought than just playing minions on curve, unlike the Dragon Priest variants of meta past.

With the exception of Rogue, Mage, and Quest Warrior, Priest actually has quite even matchups across the board if the matchup is played right. The prevalence of 1-health minions in Hunter and in other aggressive decks have allowed Northshire Cleric to rise out of obscurity into a pseudo-threat. While you will experience games where aggro Druid overwhelms you on board, or you get nut-drawn by Pirate Warrior, but those will happen with almost every other class.

I don't think Ungoro will have a big impact on Standard ladder. General power level of the expansion is not very high. Most cards are very narrow and only fit in specific strategies. And these new strategies don't seem to be able to compete with established tier1 decks like Pirate Warrior and Jade Druid. If you want to suceed this month, play Jade Druid.

This comment is pretty hilarious in retrospect.
