Hey thanks for the detailed response, I was mainly wondering because i see velen as a win condition vs control in Standard format, but I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to Wild.

I kind of disagree on your judgement of Mind Blast, especially in standard, because it's about as dead as Reno Jackson. It either works or it doesn't, and nobody plays reno on the curve. Also having velen + mindblast means that you can snatch a win out of pretty much any situation. I've won thanks to him multiple games that have come down to fatigue, vs opponents that excel in board and armoring up, like mill warrior and jade druid. Arguably I would've won sooner if I had a better curve, but that would've been up to chance, while Velen is a guaranteed 20+ damage.

I do have to agree with you in the end though, that there's just no room for him in Wild. I've cut Lyra the Sunshard, since she hasn't aided me much in standard and tends to be used as a soft taunt most of the time, and tbh that card could go for Loatheb here on those basis alone, but now that I have one of the two, implementing the other is damn near impossible. As you said, there's just nothing that can make room, save Doomsayer, but it is true that he is a huge help if he is drawn early.

i guess ultimately it falls to whether the deck should be optimized for control or aggro match ups

    • vs. aggro = lyra/loatheb and doomsayer
    • vs. control= velen and mindblast

thanks again for your reply, let me know how you feel about Lyra lol

What about Lich King or Ysera?  Sure they cost more, but they give much better value cards.

reason i try to stay away from those, is because if you draw them early they might really hurt your game. the deck is pretty much made up of barebone necessities of the win condition, board clears, and card draw right now. changing anything out to include cards that out value the opponent would have to be reflected in the entire deck, i.e. a better curve, minions to stand up to midrange/aggro game, skulking geist to make sure jade druid isn't an auto concede since we are playing midrange now, and overall a better consistency deck then we are afforded by Razakus' battlecry conditions.
the way Highlander priest wins is by staying alive long enough to kill your opponent, with absolutely deadly results. the way n'zoth priest wins, even if it includes raza and kazakus, is by outvaluing the opponent. to me, they're 2 completely different game approaches, and mixing them is going to produce worst results then running a single variant in its purified form.

which is better? depends who's stats you read, apparently haha (but imho highlander)

Thanks for all the tips.  I think you made some great points.  I am running deathrattle version.  And as you mentioned, I am running Prophet Velen without Mind Blast.  I can see how this is less than optimal.  Here's the deck I am using.  Any suggestions to make space?  Should I switch out Mass Dispel for Silence.  I like the card draw....

    N'zoth Highlander

hey, thanks for the good word, in your particular deck i think you could trim cabal shadow priest for more card draw, in the forn of gnomish inventor for ex., and mistress of mixtures could be eliminated for mind blast, as it would give you a one less bad target for n'zoth and priest tends to stay afloat without her anyways, and this way you know you have an out even if you are coming down to the last card and your opponent is at 30 health still

oop, sorry, didn't see it for some reason; if you start ahead on health and you've got the OTK, then it is pretty much a 5 mana OP velen, but there's a high chance this could backfire pretty bad at first glance. i never actually thought of it, i'll do some testing and let you know, and maybe you can run him for a bit yourself and see what you come up with, post results here?

another thing is that in WILD there's so many cards that you can now play around with, i wonder if there isn't just better cards to take his place like lightbomb or velen himself, who doesn't get the nod in a lot of decks, but it is hard to resist a 6 dmg to face per hero power use. would take 3 cards to kill an opponent at 20 health

no not biased at all, all i saw was that you're obviously a pretty good player judging from ur deck list and that you should've just been the bigger person lol, i know how you mean about toxic people but i dont think he was being toxic, and this is the page to his deck; you could straight up say you dont like it and it sucks and you're 100% entitled to your opinion, but i think you just made misguided efforts to undermine his credibility is all, and really, who cares? let the masses try it out and if they like it they do, if they dont they dont

someone told me once a curious statistic in psychology, and it's that if you keep on calling someone something, chances are you are in denial about being that yourself *cough* petty *cough*.

also that screenshot snippet with stats matches the one he posted in the deck write up, i would recommend looking before you pick a fight next time so you don't end up looking like a retard. his current list IS listed 100% in the hsreplays, else the "global stats" wouldnt show above his deck in the tracker screenshot he has in the write up. on top of that he hasnt said anything bad about your tech selection, he gave a bit of banter with "eu rank 15 > na legend", and that's all it is, banter.

being a douche is when you comment under someone's deck and say "deck is fine, guide is garbage, here everyone listen to me because i have an inferiority complex, also, if you disagree, it's just because you play on EU and you'll downvote me cuz thats what they do, and not because my opinion's worthless, also, i'm higher legend hue hue hue"

yeah i always try to wonder what else could i run instead of her, but i can't think of what to put in instead of her. i've been really tempted by mass dispel but, out of all the games i've done so far without it i never really thought "wow, i wish i had mass dispel now", but i did sometimes wish i had the distraction of lyra to throw on the board

maybe there's some hidden replacement out there for her, besides tar creeper, but it's imperceivable to me

no this is what this thread's about, it's great to see so much input; i agree that n'zoth could change this deck into control, but now that i think about it maybe mind blast isn't what should be cut. if there was a way to put ANOTHER win condition into priest, without sacrificing the consistency of either by having them interfere with each other (for ex. cutting card draw for deathrattle cards, or vital combo pieces), that would be mint.

just taking the list on top of the page as an example, if Cabal Shadow Priest, Doomsayer Curious Glimmerroot and Lyra the Sunshard made way for N'zoth, cairne, shellraiser and say polluted hoarder, and if novice engineer would be swapped for loot hoarder, this list would not only get another win condition, it would also get +1 card draw and +3 draws from playing n'zoth, never mind the ability to play on the curve a lot of time and not rely on board clears..

    holy..

@SchruteBucks yeah i hear what you mean, lyra in a lot of cases is like acolyte, it's impossible to get 100% of value out of her, but she forces removal and often your opponent wastes a turn standing on their head trying to remove her, be it with swipe or leeroy or twisting nether; it takes away their cards and buys you a turn, and if she lives, you can start cycling your larger spells that you can determine you might or might not need later on.

TLDR i dont think any single card in this deck gets used to its potential, besides raza and kazakus. the power comes from the sum of all parts. if lyra was to be dropped, i would include another threat that forces immediate action, and i can't really think of one. or more card draw (mass dispel?)

TLDR of TLDR good point lol

and on the topic of Cabal shadow priests in the original deck, only reason she stayed instead of more card draw is because shadow word horror is now not the only card that benefits from pint size potion

definitely velen, because he also buffs your hero power, and it's double, not +1. thalnos can be replaced by zealot, and to compensate for the loss of card draw you can drop something for mass dispel.

also as far as hsreplay goes, it doesn't give me access to all of it's stats, so i see what you're talking about, that big priest is top of the list, but it's not constricted to rank 5-legend, which in my opinion is what matters here, and where the most refined versions of all decks reside and duke it out for supremacy. it's also hard for me to tell what period of time they're recording these stats over.

metastats.net has elise less HP as the most successful deck in all of the meta over the last 4 days right no, standing at a whopping 81% win rate above rank 5. 81!!

Can we discuss two cards please:

Kabal Talonpriest - I ran this card for a long time.  I'm trying the deck without it for now.  Most of the time it's simply a 3/4 on a bare board.  I thought, if that's the case, what is it really doing to support the win condition?  Not much.   For now, I'm trying a second taunt minion, Second-Rate Bruiser.  The only other taunt minion in the deck (Tar Creeper) is - in my opinion - somewhat weak because it lets the opponent dictate trades and doesn't allow you to make favorable trades of your own.  Also, unlike Tar Creeper, SRB isn't vulnerable to Shadow Word: Pain (arguably the second best target in the mirror, after Priest of the Feast).

Acolyte of Pain - this is almost always a 3 mana "draw one card" and often a 3 mana "use up removal".  I honestly don't see this card getting a lot of value in most matchups.  In the mirror, it's vulnerable to Potion of Madness and Silence, and does not contest any turn 3 board whatsoever.

     yeah for sure;
Kabal Talonpriest is not much help, you're right, and I can totally see the argument for Second-Rate Bruiser. This spot it seems in my deck is occupied by Lyra the Sunshard though, and if i had to choose bruiser vs tar creeper, I think I would stick with creeper because it's important to know that you can 100% play it on the curve or on an empty board without draw backs. when playing this deck im not really worried about sub-optimal trades, im more worried about how much i can draw and how well can i stall the board
Acolyte of Pain though - you make an excellent point really, this could be replaced by any other card draw out there, now that i think about it the only time i get real use out of it is when i hit it myself after anduin's been dropped. there is however a reason as to why the acolyte under performs, which you pointed out yourself; it gets swiftly removed or silenced or played around. if you drop it on turn 3 vs rogue or paladin, and they can't play around you, you might as well just block a few initial plays they had in mind, and the further you make it into the game with highlander, the better your chances of winning are, while the opposite is true for your opponent.

i tried bully for a while but while it can be really good if you get all your combo pieces out, it also means you need to hold on to 4-5 coins for a long period of the game, and if the opponent knows what they're doing and u have say 8 cards in hand and play bully, they cast 3 spells and u start milling yourself unless u throw all ur coins away anyways

no, opposite, most lists include elise and the top list on hearthpwn even goes as far as to include cairne bloodhoof, lich king, and n'zoth, while ommiting velen, which is actually ridiculous. so no, not everyone knows the list, and this has nothing to do with net decking, it's about tech card selection; did you bother to read the post or do you just like the sound of your own voice lol?

EDIT: said 'actually' twice in one sentence lol
