TaijiOfBP posted a message on Karazhan Heroic Chess GuidePosted in: AdventuresVery easy fight. Except for the 7 mulligans I did it first try. Just mulligan for 3 pawns in the beginning and pray that the AI uses 1 pawn in 1st turn and coin +2nd pawn the 2nd turn. You put 1 pawn first turn then 2 pawns second and after just maintain the odd parity in your favor, so you always hit 2 pawns at a time. Then you just need to keep your queen to the right, to the right of the queen always a heal and next to the heal another rook - move your pieces so you can to maximum damage / turn but also heal the queen if needed. This is the perfect setup for not loosing not even 1 point of life. Control the board and easily win. Cheers forcemajeure for the guide !!!

justinleona posted a message on Karazhan Heroic Chess GuidePosted in: AdventuresTook a few attempts, but nothing too bad. Biggest lesson learned is to maximize the value of your bishops - I found it helpful to use bishop + pawn to block rooks on corners of the board, while Bishop + knight in my right corner maximizes my late game DPS by allowing other pieces to attack face while controlling pawns.
My midgame board was something like:
Pawn-Pawn-Rook-Bishop-Knight
This pushes out 20 damage per turn, which is more than enough to outpace the rate he plays pieces. Wait for him to drop his queen, then corner her between rook + queen to kill her off.
Late game aiming for:
Pawn-Pawn-Bishop-Rook-Queen-Bishop-Knight.
Trick is to look for combinations that add up to 6 damage per turn to break down his board!

Differences Between Normal & Heroic Mode:
A key difference between the normal and heroic mode is your hero power. Instead of discovering a card, your hero power is a repeatable 1-mana ability to move a friendly chess piece 1 space to the left. An additional challenge is therefore presented to you because you may run out of cards and go into fatigue, whereas your opponent doesn't have that problem. (Your opponent's hero power remains the same - destroy your left-most minion.)Strategy:
Board control is essential - you'll lose if your opponent gains the upper hand and wipes your board. Strategic positioning is therefore key in this chess game. To gain an advantage over the AI, get that double damage every turn by ensuring the difference between the AI and your pieces is always odd when you attack. Account for the death of their pieces if you kill a minion with your 4/3 charge minion. Try to position your minions in such a way that it minimizes damage to your own forces while killing theirs off, piece by piece. You win when you gain and maintain board control.
Make sure to position your weak, throwaway pieces to the left. Your queen is your most important piece - guard her carefully! Your hero power is invaluable in this regard. Don't let the AI take her out.
Just like in real chess, your chances of winning significantly improve if you think ahead to the next few turns. Think about what the AI is likely to drop, and position your pieces for the win! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

This was definitely the most difficult fight in Blackrock Mountain for me. While I did just outvalue a lot of bosses with odd warrior, it wasn't necessary for this fight. I used the main deck on this page as a base, but with quite a few alterations because of missing old cards and useless taunts. Removed: 2xDarkbomb, 2xMistress of Pain, 2xFelfire Potion, 2xTwilight Geomancer, 2xTar Creeper, 2xGiggling Inventor. Replaced with: 1xAcherus Veteran, 2xCrystallizer, 1xThe Soularium, 2xVicious Scalehide, 2xMind Control Tech, 2xThrallmar Farseer, 2xCorpsetaker.
I finished the game with plenty of minions and full health. I even got unlucky and Maloriak used faceless on my fully buffed Corpsetaker two turns in a row. Even with the 12 healing he got from that and the minions I lost trading into it, I still won first try. Might even replace a couple 1 drops for a couple Dire Wolf Alphas or something like that. Just flood the board and hope for no Aberrations turn 1. Code for the deck I used below:

this deck still works fine. only took two tries. i put in Doppelgangsters for Dr. Boom and KT and added Microtech Controller, Explodinator, Pantry Spider, and Grim Necromancer for the Aspirants, Echoing Oozes, Silver Hand Knights, and Dragonling Mechanics. Just searched collection for "summon" and picked some newer minions that summon two extra minions instead of one. i even got lucky and she summoned an unlicensed apothecary at 10hp and she cast mirror image and killed herself. i was way ahead on board and didn't need the help, but it was great.

Went back into the adventure and saw I only needed heroic Free Medivh and Heroic Chess. I beat this chess in two attempts by following the mulligan and positioning tips from Taiji. My first attempt was a 1/6 on 1 and 2x 1/6 on two and was cruising from there. The reason I lost was that my bishops were both on the bottom, so I wasn't able to generate value by keeping rooks and knights alive. I got him to 7hp, but just ran out of steam. Second attempt had same start but got a bishop much earlier which kept me ahead the whole game while doing 2-3 damage a turn to his face.
Good luck. Don't give up.

same. got a nice tidecaller/rockpool opening. he froze and obliterated as guide mentions. then i got some small murlocs and coldlight seer buff. then gentle megasaur for +1/+1 and gentle megasaur for windfury the turn after. no blizzard on 6 meant a win before frostmourne.

Was about to give up on this deck. Would get close. Usually dominate up to turn 6 and it all falls apart when he blizzards or when he plays a couple minions on top of the leftovers from his devolved board and then anti-magic shells them : /. But I did get it after 5 tries. Everyfin is Awesome really is the MVP. Murloc Tinyfin is a great help to cheat it out as well.

i would 100% remove 2xDruid of the Claw since when they transform, they lose the deathrattle. the charge version may be a little helpful, but 5 mana deal 4 isn't great. i inserted a Nourish and Jungle Panther instead. Had a priest try to survive by using Dragonfire Potion, but topdeck savage roar even on a bunch of 0-1 drops is massive damage. The Nourish did save me in one long game where I had time to copy a Volcanosaur with Menagerie Warden, but I might even scrap those cards for more card draw and small minions and minions that spawn more minions.
Most games I won were won before or around the time Volcanosaur would even be able to be played.
