After further review.. Makeshift Weaponry is the absolute worst. It really needs to do double, if not triple the stolen attack to have any point at all.
yeah, Chi-ji/Cookie/Ony is the obvious choice and what I did. Figuring it out wasn't the problem, it's just that this was a task that takes a minimum 80 turns under optimal conditions, but more realistically 120 turns and just shows an utter disrespect for the players' time.
Took 90 minutes to complete when the next task (deal 450 damage with dragons) took literally two encounters.
"Kill 40 enemies with Clear the Nest" or "summon 40 whelps" or even "Deal 200 damage in one turn 10 times" would've all been similar to this task and acceptable. I truly believe that the devs don't playtest their own tasks when they design these.
yeah.. I don't think I've -ever- used Devour aside from a task forcing me to, and yeah.. I sorta really don't see the point to Makeshift Weaponry.. so those are two good nominees.
Reclaimed Souls is pretty much a pure PVP ability, and it's particularly shining now in the current broken Trigore/Kazakus pvp comps.
..and I'm seriously NOT believing all of you sleeping on Nightmare Viper, even in PVP. Before the current hopelessly broken meta, the viper was often THE reason I'd win matches with my beast comp.
Nightmare Viper becomes an absolute unstoppable unit in long fights.
..as for using Brukan with Rogers, while that may be useful for the purpose of completing her task, how is that in any way redeeming the ability itself? You're wasting another merc's turn just to make the ability not suck. I can't think of any scenario where you wouldn't just be better off replacing her with another merc that has a more reliable AoE.
What do you consider to be the single worst ability in the mode?
I'd like to nominate Sky Admiral Rogers' Firing Position. While I could see its PVP uses, it's an absolute clunker, and I'm not just saying that because I'm currently being annoyed by her Task 17, where you have to kill 40 enemies with it (OK, maybe I am).
At Rank 5, it deals 25 damage to all enemies that have acted before this ability (not nothing to any that have acted after), but at speed 6, that's a huge ask. On top of that, this stinker even has a cooldown.
There are meant to de diminishing returns, usually after Rank 3 of any particular ability. You have to decide if it's worth getting that 1 damage or using your coins on other abilities equipment.
..and trust me, if you plan on playing Mercenaries for any significant amount of time, you WON'T be hurting for Xyrella coins.

simple solution would be to buff Noz himself. Drop his cost by one.. hell, by two! People start including him even more than 12 times a year

It seems for whatever reason, Murky is exempt from the "automatically get next task" thing.

Very underwhelming so far, though he does pair nicely with Onyxia.
I'll probably play around with Murky (with his equip that spawns two murlocs on start)/Trigore/Xuen in PVP later too.

what absolute jackass thought this would be fun and compelling gameplay?

It's been that way for months now
https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Mercenaries/Task has a decent list of which tasks do and don't require the merc in the party

We need someone who has not yet completed Vol'jin's Task 15 to tell us if the new system gives them his 16th or not.

They've flat out said they were never doing adventures again.

Between Duels and Mercenaries, it would surprise me if they ever did more Dungeon Run content.
