jim1608 posted a message on Ben Brode On The Meta, Balance, and ShamanPosted in: NewsThey can analyze how many cards it has in your deck. When they save statistics they parse the deck and check every card and if it has key cards for an archetype or too many cards that a certain deck uses it gets listed as being those kind of decks.
It doesn't need to be mutually exclusive. If it's jade C'thun it would be added to both jade, control, c'thun and maybe even ramp´druid statistics.

ShadowsOfSense posted a message on Whenever vs After - Design Philosophy Behind Triggered Abilities in HearthstonePosted in: NewsQuote from EternalFinality >>Works completely fine in Elder Scrolls Legends. They really need to get away from the "no reactivity whatsoever on opponent's turn" part of this game.
That's the part that sets Hearthstone apart from other games, and it's a part that a lot of people enjoy. The lack of interaction on your opponent's turn streamlines the game and allows games to be faster, and also accommodates the more casual playerbase who like to tab out during the opponent's turn.I don't see a reason to do something just because another game does it. If all games tried to be the same we'd all still be playing Pong. Really, really good looking Pong, but Pong nonetheless. -

TSMS posted a message on "Ben Brode on how long until Pirates walk the plank"Posted in: NewsI don't understand, why people give Jade Idol all this hate. I don't think the card has little impact on the current meta at all and definitely did not kill control. First off, Jade Idol does only exceptionally well against control decks without any real win condition besides outlasting the opponent like Fatigue Mage/Warrior and second it's still only available to one class. Druids make up about 10% of the meta and not every Druid even plays Jade cards. There were times where Freeze Mage and Control Warrior were played in the same meta even so queueing as Freeze Mage into Warrior was an autoloss. If there were control decks, that only lose to Jade Idol, they would be played regardless of the one bad matchup.

Armor posted a message on Mike Donais: No Ladder Changes in the Next Set, Current Meta, Small-Time BuccaneerPosted in: NewsThere's a very easy argument for why they don't, and really can't test cards more vigorously. It's largely shaped around capitalism. Marketing companies of ANY caliber are forced to make decisions that will get the product out quickly and get it to sell. Blizzard is at the end of the day a company that wants to make money, and if they don't have to hire 500 new play testers (Which is still a LOT of extra money to spend) Then they wont. It's simply inefficient for them since this past method of set creation has been extremely successful (in terms of sales). Shitty design or not, people seem to eat it up anyways.
Products are rushed out because of the never-ending struggle to stay competitive. Think of how long it used to take for new segments of popular games to come out. In the words of Michael Crichton, "The cycles were originally three years to a new product, a new version. Then it was two years. Then eighteen months. Now it was twelve months - a new version every year. If you figure beta debugging to a golden master takes four months, then you only have eight months to do the actual work. Eight months to revise ten million lines of code, and make sure it all works right." Now take that and apply it to Hearthstone. That being said, the means do not justify the ends. Cards like this should definitely be tested more than they are, ESPECIALLY considering how conservative blizzard is with changes. Since they are so reluctant to make said changes you'd think they would take more care with cards initial releases, but I guess not. Blizzard seems to consistently release products that still have minor and major flaws in the very core of their design. Hence we consistently have issues with out of control aggressive decks as a result of power creep'd low cost cards, e.g. our friend STB, as well as cards like Jade idol which prevent a meta from ever leaning towards control since druid will always win the value game now. Always.
So does blizzard have a good reason as to why they aren't hiring more play testers? Well, yeah. Company efficiency with a profit motive dictates they don't. People buy the cards anyways and blizzard profits more since they don't spend as much. Does that justify releasing products that aren't thoroughly tested? Not in the slightest. In fact it's a legitimate issue when it comes to more serious products being rushed out than our virtual children's card game. Blizzard should test these cards more, but as we all know they're honestly very stingy when it comes to their products, rarely giving out free packs, even to new players. (Every other virtual TCG out there currently gives SO much more than Blizzard does) So unfortunately, unless there's a profit motive its unlikely they will change their ways. -

Everyone bitching about standard arena, not realizing magic only uses the most current set for sealed formats (think arena) and has been basically since inception. With the limited cardpool for hearthstone standard arena doesn't really work, but I think a cube style system where blizzard creates a custom draft environment for each expansion release would work wonders. Of course this would take a ton of work, and I have serious doubts blizzard is capable of making a fun, dynamic, and balanced draft pool.
The problem as it is now leaves arena feeling a lot lower skill than it should be. You can't rely on drafting synergies, and basically just have to curve out better than your opponent and pray for no board clear. As the game goes on this will only become worse as there will be so many cards in the arena environment, the problems of no synergy, and having to playing curvestone will be magnified. It also makes arena more unapproachable for new players, as you essentially have to be familiar with every card in the game, and how well they perform in arena.

Ladies and gentlemen set your faces to palm
Some key points I wanted to touch on
"The Pirate 'package' of Small-Time Buccaneer and Patches the Pirate is played in about 50% of all decks at rank 5 and above."
the fact that half of your competitive players are abusing the pirate package, and the other half are building their decks with patches in their sights should be a clear indicator the game has completely warped around these cards. That Team 5 doesn't come out and and plainly admit that this is a huge problem is disturbing. Saying aggro shaman isn't as broken as the most busted deck in the game's history doesn't tell us a damn thing. The problem isn't aggro shaman's winrate. Its player's perception of ladder efficiency for grinding to legend (which aggro shaman is great for), which leads to shaman's over representation. All that stems from a much deeper problem within the ladder system rewarding faster decks, which is a topic for a different conversation.
"When a deck loses to specific cards or other decks, players can be rewarded for playing those counters as that deck rises in popularity........ .....When metas stagnate for too long; When there are no good counters; When the best decks aren't fun to play or lose to; these are all reasons we have made balance adjustments in the past. If a deck is popular for a few weeks, that isn't a reason to make a nerf on its own. We'd have to be concerned about the fun, not be seeing any emerging counter-strategies, or be far enough away from a new content release to be worried about stagnation for a long time."
Its been 2 months dude... aggro shaman, and pirate warrior have been running rampant after the first week of release. The meta has been settled for the last month or more. I'd hardly call the fact that one of the best control warrior players in the world was able to pilot his deck to a positive winrate 'counterplay'. CW also typically struggles against dragon priest, reno decks, and completely loses to druid. Sure you get your free wins against shaman, but lose to almost everything else. Because every set is so riddled with bullshit unplayable cards, the few playable ones leave almost no room for creative deckbuilding or counterplay.
I understand not listening to a vocal minority, and rely on a more statistical approach when evaluating nerfs. However, 30% of legend players as shaman? FFS there are supposed to be 9 classes in the game (7 for standard).

how have you been a member of hearthpwn for almost 2 years yet you honestly can't answer your own question? Blizzard has given a full dust refund on all cards changed, This will be no different.

losing reno and brann will likely be the death knell for those decks as they are now. Priest gets hurt least with their innate healing ability, but you still rely on Brann to drive so much of the value in the deck, that I honestly don't see it working out.
But it's pretty much impossible to say without seeing new cards.

Well put, thanks for the response

you answered your own question....Why would they when its a statistically minuscule portion of their playerbase? People don't realize that hearthpwn and reddit make up less than 1% of their users. As long as their bottom line doesn't see an impact, and the game keeps increasing in sales growth nothing will change. What motivation does blizzard have catering to a vocal minority that accounts for 1% of their revenue?
