posted a message on I’ve never regretted anything as much as duels

Yeah it has a few problems, for one they overdid the format in adventure mode already.  So it feels stale right out of the gate.

Feels a bit more like a chore to get 12 wins, where you have to force yourself to play it.  I don't think balancing will fix that, but it's certainly not balanced.

While murlocs were traditionally a fun class they did let it get out of control.  A lot of builds, including pirates as a tribe in general are actually viable now.

Having said that even though it's funner now, battlegrounds is still very stale.  I think the mode is fun but it kind of has ran it's course in the freshness department.  Just mho.

It's a build I keep trying but doesn't really have that obvious line like most othet builds have.   And if I ever get enough of that gold saving pirate I can't pull it off on the phone or you'll just lose with that against a divine shield super build.  They probably need to buff that tier 6 minion or add some other tier 6 pirate.  The class is a hot mess currently.

posted a message on Advice to get better at BG (lowkey desperate)

Glad to hear you found my advice especially helpful.

Picking heroes you find fun is definitely key.   You definitely don't need to "try hard", heck my past 10 runs were played drunk where random nonsensiical decisions and random phone presses were prevalent and I'm still over 10k.

Usually after a run where I am getting first frequently I will almost always intentially make oddball decisions just to not do the same thing again and again, to keep myself entertained.

What I'm trying to say is, it doesn't have to be elegant all the time, and sometimes playing stupid teaches you things.   Really the game can sometimes be monotonous and repettitive and you have to shake that off somehow.

I think Sylvanas is fine, I've done well every time I've picked her.  I mainly don't pick her because I play on phone and constantly moving stuff around is too much of a pain.

Cobalts probably need a nerf, but they are the comp I least worry about facing against.

I agree with the other person regarding milhouse.  Just set his statting gold at 3.  Will be enough to get him off to a strong start.  Right now he can already do that, but sometimes something as simple as not getting a token minion in the first two turns can make it rough for him.

There aren't enough big demons, and it's not like it can spawn itself.

There's some sort of golden maly super build you could potentially do with the card, but it's pretty difficult to pull off.

Has it's obvious counters, red whelp players for one.

It's definitely in that fun alternate comp that this mode desperately needs more of.  Off hand it's really just this, pogos, and that build that involves trippling token minions over and over again.

I have tried to pull it off before, with more than just reno.  I still haven't come close to putting it all together.

Well just a little while after posting this I got first, as reno, with this:

Golden Ghoul - Kaboom bot - doggie spawner - Golden Spawn of N'zoth - Golden selfless hero - Ghastcoiler - Golden rivendare

I couldn't find a single Goldrinn after an obscene amount of refreshes.  And was running a  single non golden n'zoth for the longest time too.  Ghastcoiler with a resilient rivendare carried pretty much.

Might be the most satisfying and fun win I've had in awhile.

posted a message on Battlegrounds - Deathwing Nerf Coming, Potential Millhouse Buff and More

I play milhouse most of the times I see him.  While he's definitely someone you can get a hard 8th with I definitely have more top four finishes with him than not.  He's a hero that you have to completely change how you think out your turns and you can end up with a pretty strong board and high health total in the midgame.

The most obvious buff would simply be starting him at 3 gold to better ensure a strong start to make up for his issues late game.

On a quick runthrough Void Terror would be the most insane card to add to the game(and spiderbomb and venomizer are in that "please no" category).   Now do the same, but for the adventure specific cards :)

Talk simplicity when you have reached 10k mmr. There is a lot more strategy to the mode than you give it credit for.

I have.   All that happens at 10k is first place is more 1 in 8.  Under 5k a good player can get first place almost every match.

I would maybe more equate it to those mobile games that just require you to tap the screen, but they keep giving you rewards constantly like you are accomplishing something other than spending time with the app open.

I know, reductive since this game is a bit more than that.   But you are likely to get first place a lot with even a minimal skill level of the mode, giving you that dopamine rush.

Having said that, I um utterly bored of every other mode in this game.

For those of us that have been playing hearthstone from the start it is really just an addiction that has kept us around this long.

I play battlegrounds very sporatically.    I certainly don't condemn it.  It's charming for all it's simplicity.

Murlocs are very viable now.  Everything except the adapt murloc guy is at tier 2.  Just hang at tier 2 until you've gotten some op murloc stats.  Then get to tier 6 over 3 turns.  Usually just before the tier 3 upgrade hits 0.

You end up with a board that does a good bit of damage and can still beat people as you focus on tiering up.

Even if the adapt guy doesn't play nice you have a lot of options once you are at tier 6.

It would be nice if there was a point to winning.

The point of winning is the same as the point of winning any other game. This is a pastime, not a job.

If you think it's fun, the fun is your reward.

While I get where you are coming from, I'm not sure there's enough there that the fun I am having now will last.  Eventually repetition does rear it's ugly head.

Though I get that rewards and progression in most games are a grind and serve the developers to keep you playing more than the gamer.

Honestly I don't really care if I get bored of the mode tomorrow and stop playing.  I am more thinking of the overall lasting power of the way it's currently designed.

What's the point of playing standard? You're never going to get good enough to become a pro player and go to tournaments so why bother?

The point is to have fun and it has the same rewards as standard has (minus a handful of dust each month)

I guess, I've never played standard much, so I can't relate, and I'm not sure if fun is something I would describe constructed as.   It's more of a slough for new players who are actively working to get more cards, so I'd say there is progression there.

To me Battlegrounds has more in common with the adventure mode where you are playing against the ai and picking new cards each round. That was also great and a breath of fresh air when I first played it, but after about a month of playing it I never touched it again.  And the subsequent modes that were very similar never quite reignited that itch.

Just to be clear, I think what it is now is fine, just I do think malaise will set in.
