I don't recommend playing arena right now. When your Hearthstone knowledge increases and your skills are at a higher level, then you can start. You need at least 3 wins to break even, or you're wasting gold that could be better spent on packs.
Try to avoid crafting commons and rares if possible. Save your dust for strong, necessary legendaries and epics.
Two of the strongest budget decks are zoolock and face hunter. There are a good number of guides on hearthpwn in the decks section; just search by rating and see which decks you have the most cards for. Strongly recommend reading HearthstonePlayers and watching Trump's videos. There are great articles that are useful for beginners all the way to advanced players.
Planning to buy 50 packs with saved gold, then up to 20-30 more depending on the luck of the draw. I ended up buying around 80 packs each for the previous expansions, then crafted whatever was missing that I needed.
~7,000g and 24,000 dust here. Planning to get 50 packs with gold when the expansion hits, and up to 30 more depending on how good the cards/RNG are. Will use dust to acquire any of the best legendaries/epics I'm missing.
@elandan Personally, I bank all gold and only use it to buy expansion booster packs. You save a lot of time buying adventures with cash, and it's the most cost-effective investment. Do you plan to plan Standard or Wild or both? If I were you, I'd start saving gold for the new expansion and make the decision on how to spend it once you know how good those cards are.
@Rev3e Save gold and dust for the new expansion! There might be a ton of must-have cards.
About $60. Bought all adventures with cash since it's not worth the time to farm gold. Haven't bought any packs/arena. 13,500 dust (9,500 reserve dust in meta-useless cards) + 4,600 gold. Have most of the useful legendaries.
A good mindset - patience, the willingness to learn and improve, emotional control, etc. Salty players can't go that far, whereas a player who focuses on improving his/her game will continually get better.
Understanding concepts like value, tempo, board control, thinking ahead, and playing around opponent moves is also critical.
I have Naxx & BRM. Like the title, I'm playing all classes. One day I'd like to play Control Warrior, but this is not that day. I've been collecting dust since Naxx, so I have 3555 dust and about 4800 dust I can get from disenchanting cards unlikely to see play.
Which legendaries are the most critical and would fit the most ladder decks? I'm thinking of crafting one or several of these:

8,675 gold and 14,735 dust, with another 9,920 dust on reserve. Targeting 12,500 gold before the release. I am ready for you, Cthun!

Agree with Facehunter52. Go with Boom; you won't regret it.

Looks like Tirion, Grom, and Alex are the way to go. Thanks for all the responses!
