posted a message on Weekly Community AMA From Dean "Iksar" Ayala - Golden Cards Upgrades, Craftable Skins & Card Backs, Titans and More!

I need to write this as calmly as possible, as hardcore anti-aggro cards (e.g. Reno etc) have a dedicated fan base with people who don't like the aggro playstyle, BUT:

Defile is undercosted. And not just undercosted, but brutally undercosted.

It'll be in slower Wild Warlock decks forever for precisely that reason. There is no way 2-mana Defile should be allowed back in Standard just because it is a card that requires skill to use effectively.

If we could ask Blizzard to provide the data of every cast of Defile, what would the average real-world amount of damage it does to a board would actually be? Around 3? Around 4? For a cost of 2-mana? There is an argument that some undercosting is OK because it often needs to be played alongside a cheap minion or spell damage minion. There is an argument that some undercosting is OK because that rewards a skillful use of the card. Fine.

But not 2-mana. That is ridiculous. Let's imagine that the lead designer of Hearthstone said his favorite card was a 3-mana Leeroy Jenkins. Time to question his competence?

Everything you say here is correct; I theorycrafted a weapon-based Tempo Rogue before Witchwood released, based on Jambre's UK decks. Unfortunately, it rolls over to wide boards (so the Call to Arms nerf will have improved it) but also taunts and weapon destruction - too many things to dodge consistently to do well.  Not to mention Shadowblade's awkward anti-synergy with the Rogue hero power. That said, I think I can improve your list.

Runeforge Haunter is a bad card and Tar Creeper has no place in an aggressive deck like this. Saronite Chain Gang is the best card in the game with Prince Keleseth (apart from Shadowstep). So:

-2 Runeforge Haunter +2 Saronite Chain Gang

-2 Tar Creeper +2 Dread Corsair (should always be played for 1-mana or 0-mana)

You shouldn't need 2 Spellbreakers when you have access to 2 Vilespine and Shadowsteps:

    -1 Spellbreaker +1 Shadowstep

Cobalt Scalebane is the definition of an OK card, but synergizes less well with this kind of deck than Bittertide Hydra:

    -2 Cobalt Scalebane + 1 Bittertide Hydra

That leaves 1 slot - you could run second Hydra (but you can end up dead real quick if you play 2 at once) or a second Shadowstep. You REALLY should run 2 Shadowsteps with this many battlecries and Leeroy.

    +1 Shadowstep
