posted a message on How healthy is kazakusan for the meta?
    Quote from JJSawry >>

Meta was just as varied AND less polarized before Onyxia's Lair. That period right after rogue got nerfed, we had one of the healthiest and diverse metas in a long time.

Kaz won't be as healthy for the meta Kaz warrior gets decent replacement tools for what it loses.

100% this. I remember genuinely enjoying the game during this period and being afraid of how they would screw it up with the mini set. What they ended up coming out with was worse than i expected.

It’s not “draw a minion” it just draws a card and buffs it if it happens to be a minion. So compared to alliance bannerman which always draws a minion and buffs your whole hand, this card is questionable.

Blessing of authority and Flesh Giant are both rotating so she should be fine for now (hopefully)

you’re coming back at a good time since the annual rotation + new core set is incoming. I would craft the cheapest deck i can find with the least amount of rotating cards as possible to mess around with until the reset. Dont fall victim to netdecking an expensive druid deck because they’re losing a ton of key cards very soon. Also as far as the free returning player decks go the Paladin deck has the most legendaries in it i believe so i would choose that if i were you.

I think you're missing the point. It's about being able to do something, ANYTHING, with what are currently completely useless coins.

When you open ANY other pack in Hearthstone.. packs that cost the same amount of money, the same amount of gold and draws from the same pool of gold, you're guaranteed at least 40 dust.. dust that can go towards -something-. As you progress in Mercenaries, however, you steadily approach a point where each Mercenaries pack you open contains ZERO value. There is literally nothing in the pack you can use for anything.

Now sure, you can say "there are plenty of gacha games where you can effectively get a blank draw". These aren't Blizzard games, though. Blizzard -had- a reputation of more player friendly loot boxes in their games and doing right by the player. It was on this reputation that they sold $130 pre-order bundles before the mode was even released. And it's on 5 months of silence after they promised they would do something about it that they're pissing that reputation away.

Every other pack isn't from a gacha mode though and those other modes are oriented on other, more "western" principles for loot boxes. Mercenaries is not.

Maybe it is a design flaw to have individual coins and they should have just gone with rarities, categories or a combination?
Maybe they can change it and introduce better uses of coins, but gacha games build on the idea of having a huge pile of useless junk with a handful of high rarity chase items.

Anyway with the amounts of coins already available for those who actively play the mode, it will be hard to add anything that wouldn't be obsolete right away or render the base goal of grinding obsolete.

If the lack of a coin exchange mechanic was intentional it was a huge mistake on the developer’s part. I understand what you’re saying about the typical gacha experience but Mercenaries is built into the client of a game which has an economy established for surplus cards/dust, which should be the primary point of reference as opposed to other, equally greedy gacha-style games. As it is now, Mercenaries packs seem like a rip-off in the vacuum of HS because at least regular duplicate cards can be converted to dust for crafting purposes. Instead of mimicking the practices of Genshin Impact the devs should reflect on the fact that their new game mode is lacking basic features that their IP was already known for.

The reason is exactly what you would suspect: They never agreed on a solution for the excess coin issue and pushed the product anyway. If they had an answer up their sleeve, they would have announced it by now to possibly save the mode before it was too late. I assume the team assigned to Mercenaries must argue about this on a constant basis and at least one employee is thinking “why are we coming out with new mercs for this mode when we can’t even establish a proper economy for the coins” but obviously that poor guy has been losing every argument

    Quote from Jokepwn >>

We have a very imbalanced meta right now(isn't it always?) and it's obvious from looking at the class popularity spectrum. But it's a relief that face hunters aren't as popular as before. Used to make up 1/3 of the ladder and you had to craft your deck around it.

Now you have to craft your deck around Shamans and Druids, but mage has some counters in devolving missiles and mass polymorph.

I like both of the cards you mentioned as counters but the problem is when only one or two classes have effective counters against the top meta decks then you create a hige deficit in representation. I’ve been playing Demon Hunter and Rogue all this month and it is like pulling teeth when i face these guys

Freeze Shamans (and Ramp Druids but that’s another topic) make me sick to my stomach. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that having up to 4 copies of an insane battlecry minion like Snowfall Guardian could result in something degenerate but the devs couldn’t be arsed to playtest it thoroughly. Brilliant Macaw has problematic design to begin with, as in every battlecry minion would have needed to be balanced with it in mind for the next two years, but they actually managed to screw things up with a busted synergy within a couple of months. Even worse is that Shamans were given two new forms of card draw (something they were lacking before) to make sure they find all their board freezes and burn cards right when they need them. They can even run four copies of Windchill to freeze something and draw another card while they’re at it

Why would he be in a netdeck? It’s a vanilla 8/8 unless your opponent is also running that exact same vanilla 8/8. The card has no competitive value but i agree with you that not enough people seem to use him when the quest is active.

posted a message on Big Demon Hunter Decks

Thanks for this list. I messed around with it a bit (kind of mixed in the idea i was already using) and just went from Diamond 10 floor to Diamond 5 in a couple of hours (before i couldn’t get out of d8). I removed the 4 cost minions to slot in Vanndar as well as more card draw and removal which has been working well against aggro. I also cut the Fel Summoner (felt like a worse version of Caria Felsoul) to add in 2 Priestess of Fury.  I think the card is very slept on considering it pushes a lot of damage and either punishes the opponent for playing wide, low health boards or closes out games against decks without board presence (especially when you copy one on the field with Faceless Manipulator). I haven’t reached legend with it yet but once I do i’ll post the decklist on the main site.
