dusted every nerfed card and resigned to not bother with those classes for a while, (because they're boring) completed my Shudderwock nonsense deck for standard and wild, blasting away at rogues in both.

when in doubt, shudderwock them out!

I still can't believe Avenging Wrath became this big. in Paladin! crazy how things work out. also Maverick whipping out the Dead Man, at least some amusement.

posted a message on Can you help me against the Dragoncaller?

I would assume Lightning Storm + Volcano would be enough, especially if you run a Thalnos. in this matchup I don't believe you need that many boardclears, and there's also the question on what your win condition is (and is it good enough) that the opponent can overrun you.

posted a message on Is Quest mage still viable?

we're awaiting some announced nerfs in Standard and before that, Quest Mage isn't going to work out there.

in Wild I have some success with it as it has a lot of matchups it instantly wins and some it loses ; Wild decks tend to be greedy and control oriented and Quest Mage picks them apart, though you lose to aggro a lot. it's not something I would invest resources if I'm dust-starved.

posted a message on Share your Shudderwock deck here.

I'm toying with the idea of playing a 4-God Shudderwock deck (Y'shaarj is in there just to complete the collection :v) for memeing my opponents out of the game, but mostly I just roll with a C'thun or N'zoth based deck. even a mill deck with 2x Elise and Oracles. I'm not comfy to share lists yet until I hit something that feels flowy, but that's my blueprint so far.

posted a message on Why do we have emotes in Hearthstone?

... you would want to remove emotes because you get tilted from a little teasing? this is why we can't have good things.

most of the people I played with normally uses emotes for greeting and acknowledging some moment in the game, perfectly fine use. the much lesser other bunch uses it for BM and spamming, which you can Squelch. so how is any of this a problem?

posted a message on What would be better for cubelock now?

atm I am having a lot more success with Control Warlock since I mainly encounter aggro (which it crushes) and Spitefuls (which it deals with better than with Cubelock) so my advice would be to make your collection more flexible and look into cards you lack for Controllock.

posted a message on Cards that are getting worse with each expansion.

then again that's basically true of every Classic legendary except VanCleef, isn't it? like despite Paladin being a powerhouse for several expansions now, none of these decks ran Tirion Fordring, which is a beast of a card even with all the powercreep. you couldn't even run it with N'zoth around! it just doesn't fit anywhere anymore, I guess, you just either won or lost the game before it comes into play. I can't remember when's the last time Archmage Antonidas was a card except in Exodia either. stuff's gone crazy.

posted a message on Show the love for Shudderwock - or how history taught me to expect death to every interesting deck

I keep hearing about this diversity, but all the game is doing is matching me up against Even Paladins. so weird. I'm at rank 8 right now and I stopped playing since it is simply not fun at all going against the same deck in every format (casual or not), even if I am winning all these boring matches. I'll have to play more I suppose!

    thanks for reading!

posted a message on Show the love for Shudderwock - or how history taught me to expect death to every interesting deck

as a player who has enjoyed experimenting with both Shudderwock and Tess Greymane, I was very afraid from the clueless knee-jerk reaction the community had towards the day 1 popular OTK Shudderwock deck. while a number of people did specifically say the card isn't overpowered (yet!) and numbers proved that the deck was indeed underperforming, I was very afraid that the large of people against the card would still be able to convince Blizzard to take action against it.

I dreaded the day the Shudderwock patch would arrive! I finally found a Standard and Wild deck that is actually enjoyable, a non-curve deck in Shaman (except Malygos and the Kel'thuzad reanimator in Wild) that was unusual, special, that I could actually enjoy on my path to finally getting my golden Thrall that I keep waiting years for! my god the nonsense I've already pulled off, playing a 4 God + Shudderwock deck, going off with Yogg and N'zoth and Grumble's battlecry... it's all priceless. but then, but then... here the community goes again, poisonous as always to everything that is off the beaten path. here they are again rallying against windmills, instead of demanding to have counterplay cards they just want them to delete decks altogether so I guess they don't have to think too hard about matches anymore.

I don't want to go into the whole aspect of 'singleplayer, uninteractive' decks. combo decks that are focused on assembling a complex and multipart glass cannon should exist no matter who thinks what ; they're just as a needed part to the meta, they answer a particular part of the meta (which is always required) and they attract a certain type of players, rewarding all of us with diversity and higher chance of enjoyment. they also must be just as carefully balanced as aggro, midrange and control - all of these when overpowered are just as 'singleplayer, uninteractive' as the other.

finally, the patch arrived! I sighed in relief ; the card basically works the same! no mana cost increase, no game mechanic-defying Yogg bandage patch on it, nothing but what was really needed since Hearthstone's beginning - animation speed increase. now mind you, HS needed a boost to all animations and not just Shudderwock, but I'll take their little bandages since my expectation for Blizzard over the years has dropped so low anyway. the battlecry cap means nothing, it only takes about 8 to just deliciously break the game. I don't believe this applies to double battlecry and other Shudderwocks per turn, and in that case it means absolutely nothing!

but again, the community. they're all already talking about dusting Shudderwock, demanding dust refund (for a nerf that... does nothing but bandage Hearthstone's endless trouble with animations?) and calling it unplayable, completely oblivious to the richness a card like this brings to the game. a card like this that by itself allows entirely new decks and deckbuilding decisions, reviving unusable cards, bending the rules and possibilities of every HS game played.

a card like this that brings enjoyment to people like me, and perhaps you.

in conclusion I just wish to say this - stop demanding the death of decks ; demand playable answers to them. what we have here is an amazing card that can create completely new decks in a meta overrun with cards from expansions past, a card that by itself tests what is possible in a game of Hearthstone, and we should love and embrace it for what it is and be encouraged to craft beyond what is tried and tested, and walk on the path of unknown.

we must all learn to love and embrace the Shudderwock.

posted a message on which oppressive deck would you play?

    Freeze Mage.

it's definitively not the same in Standard without Ice Lance, and while it is playable in Wild I feel that its time simply has passed and playing just ye olde Freeze Mage just doesn't make much sense... especially now that Druid is armoring up for like +20 a turn.

posted a message on Has someone found success with Deathrattle rogue?

the only place where I've seen Rogue do any good with deathrattle oriented decks is Wild, but these decks don't really bother using any of the deathrattle benefit cards like Roll the Bones or Onyx Spellstone and instead opt for a Gang Up, Coldlight Oracle and Shadowstep package, for example. it's an extremely defensive deck that's however still weak to Aggro basically because of the very limited AOE and healing to stabilize from early aggression, but in the late game it mills the opponent, dismantles combos and is virtually impenetrable on board.

in Standard? I don't see it happening at all, other classes simply do everything better.

posted a message on Player Retention Issues - is losing too punishing and expensive?

    Quote from latinvampire >>

Punishing no.  And the expense is relative.  I DO disagree with two decsions; -

    • Killing off the adventures
    • Delaying Witchwood single player

Loss of adventures leads to less value for money and a lot more expense.  Not having Monster Hunt available means no refuge for those that want to get away from bad ladder experiences.

I agree on the adventure part, I thought the adventures did a great job at showcasing Blizzard's ability, their effort on detail and the universe they've created. now it's just "hey, here's a dump of cards you can't afford, some of them you actually know and love from WOW. good on you, mate." I don't think it plays to their strength at all.
however, I think the delay on the Monster Hunt was actually good, because the meta in theory should be the craziest in the first 2 weeks and then start settling down. then you would in theory be like "that was great and all, but things are settled now so lemme take a break" and enjoy some PVE. I dig it! too bad that Paladin and Warlock simply survived the rotation and gotten stronger with it. :v

nah, I play mostly control/combo decks, just had some bad luck with drawing answers against Baku Paladin (like 60% of what I encountered) and games ended rather quick. the two losses that I enjoyed today were against a Aviana/Kun/Toggwaggle/Azalina deck, which was awesome to see.
