posted a message on Hearthstone is a disaster

When you play against the same deck over and over, you can:

    A) make a deck that exploits that deck's weakness to take advantage of the meta having a clear bias towards one style of deck

    B) go online and complain about that deck

One of those options will actually get results. The other will be a waste of time. I'll leave you to guess which is which.

posted a message on So "priest nerf" patch is coming?

The data presented by the OP is for a one specific Highlander Priest deck list, so it is kind of misleading. If you look at the other data on the website's main page you'll see that Highlander Priest as an archetype is only the 7th best performing over the last 4 days even with a bunch of specific lists performing well. This means that specific players are able to play this deck much better than others. I think we'd have a real problem and Blizzard would step in if across the board Highlander Priest was winning at a super high rate regardless of skill level, but this data doesn't support that.

posted a message on The Issues with the Salt Thread, and the HearthPwn Community

In a perfect world we'd have a forum where everyone treated everyone else with respect, stayed on topic, and presented logical/factual arguments for/against whatever issue was up for discussion. Unfortunately the internet is not that place. I applaud those who strive to keep this place a fun/educational environment and I try to do my best as well. Because of the anonymity of the internet people feel empowered to act in ways which they would never act in a face-to-face setting. It goes both ways though. Not only are people dismissive and rude in their responses, but many who start threads are engaging in the same juvenile and attention needy behavior with their original post in the first place.

For me, I just try and stick to the threads with subject lines that sound worthy of my time and I ignore the rest. I always try and post helpful or thoughtful responses and hope those who reply to me do the same. That's about all you can hope for.

posted a message on The Issues with the Salt Thread, and the HearthPwn Community

I think part of the reason people are dismissive about the various salty threads posted daily here is that a lot of them are just unreasonable at their core. So many are  just people complaining about losing to deck X or Y or that some card should be nerfed when no data exists to support their claims. They just come off as whiny and entitled. If those who posted presented their gripes in a manner which promoted a real discussion, then that's great, but so many just post an absurd rant.

Just to be clear, I think there are plenty of issues with Hearthstone that deserve debate. But it's tiresome to see post after post (some of which are about the exact same thing) of people just whining about nothing more than whatever deck/card happened to tilt them that day.

posted a message on The psychology of a card back.

Only card back I've noticed being a giveaway is when Warriors are using the default card back they are always Pirate. Not directly about the card back, but if I see a Warrior with Magni as the hero it is Quest or some kind of control deck. Other than that I haven't noticed anything that I could say I actually use during decision making for mulligans.

posted a message on New Legendary Card Reveal - Prince Valanar

He's a solid minion for his cost and I've played him in a few decks that could use a little help with healing/defense (Warlock and Rogue) and I could afford not to play other 4 drops. Still, I feel like his drawback is a lot harder to build around than Prince Keleseth and his upside isn't as good when you play him on curve either. He's still better than the 3 drop Prince though. I think the thing that gets people about this card is that what you get for the severity of the drawback just isn't impressive on the surface. You'd think he'd be more than just a decent role-player in a deck, but more of the focal point for the hoop you have to jump through to play him at full power.

    Tinkmaster Overspark

It was in like the 3rd or 4th pack I ever opened too. I had no idea how rare it was at the time. Took me awhile until I got another.

posted a message on The game is becoming too expensive

These threads always boil down to the same thing. If you aren't willing to or can't spend any money then don't expect to have all the options those who spend money do.

Blizzard gives away free packs for Tavern Brawl, has run more events lately which give you free gold/dust/packs, gives out free packs for picking your champion for HCT, gave away a free legendary in the solo content for Frozen Throne, made the change so you are guaranteed a legendary in your first 10 packs of an expansion, and changed it so you don't get duplicate legendaries. I'd say overall they're fairly generous, even to those who don't spend a dime. Sure, we'd all love to get more free stuff, but to say the game is all the sudden getting more expensive isn't really true at all.

posted a message on How hard is it to reach Rank 5?

As some have said already, it's just a matter of how much time you have to devote to the game. As long as you can play a deck decently well, with enough time you can grind to 5. I set a goal for myself to get to at least rank 10 every month. That way I get some decent end of month rewards and at rank 10 I can play whatever I want without worrying about dropping ranks due to the rank floor. I enjoy goofing around with weird decks so that's where I find enjoyment with the game. Grinding to legend isn't much fun and I'd have to sacrifice the free time I devote to other things I enjoy doing to get there, which isn't worth it for me. I do hope that whatever changes they make to ladder allow for players like myself (who have families and other responsibilities/interests competing for free time) to be rewarded for higher win rates, rather than just how much time I can devote.

Getting rid of the mistake that was Gadgetzan can't come soon enough.

I really wish they'd just nerf the jade statues to cap at a certain level, like 5/5 or something. There is almost no additional cost built into the cards that create the jade statues, which makes those cards absurd late game as you're paying as little as 1 mana for huge minions. Even at its worst a card like Jade Spirit is 3/4 worth of stats for 4 mana. Yeah, it stinks if it's your first jade card of the game, but most of the time it's the second or third, so you're getting 4/5 or 5/6 worth of stats for 4 mana which is at worst average (if 4/5) or a bargain (at 5/6) and it just gets better from there. At least if they capped jade statues at 5/5 you'd still get the mid-game above curve action, but late game you won't just continually have minions that are cheaper and bigger than anything your opponent can be doing.

posted a message on Hearthstone is more reasonably affordable than I thought.

One reason I can think of that there is a limit to how much gold you can gain via wins each day is to discourage the use of bots. If you could gain unlimited gold we'd see a proliferation of bots out there just farming gold all day for accounts.

How about just chilling and not letting childish stuff tilt you. By getting so worked up about it you allow them to get exactly what they want by emoting you.

posted a message on Discuss the Nerf - Innervate

Sad to see Druid's class identity get diluted, but the change Blizzard made to Innvervate is the one which weakens Druid the most right now and is also the most simple. I can understand it from those perspectives. Though I'd have rather seen something else which made Innervate cost mana so that it couldn't be used to ramp as early in the game, or maybe something that limited its usage to minions only, but as a Basic card that could be confusing to new players. Tough choice either way.

posted a message on Now i remember why i hate this game... (not salt)

Here's some simple advice. Nothing about gaming is life or death serious. Remember, you're playing a game and games should be fun first and foremost. If you aren't having fun with a game then try something else. You have to shrug off the bad times otherwise you'll get yourself into a mindset that is destructive. I've been playing games for most of my adult life and I find that the less I stress about them the more success I have at them. Hopefully you're able to find some balance in your gaming life so that you enjoy the time spent, rather than waste your free time stressing out.

posted a message on Druid is virtually unbeatable and this needs to be changed fast

There are decks which can prey on Druid. I don't think it is quite the boogeyman it appears to be right now. The meta is still new and players are sometimes slow to shift decks (usually it takes pros/streamers making decks they can copy to do so).

I will say that regardless of Druid's current strength, Innervate is a card which should either be changed or moved to Hall of Fame. I think it would be fair to change Innervate to be akin to Preparation, but only reduce cost for minions. Or possibly have it refill used mana crystals so that you can't jump curve with it. The other cards people generally complain about (Ultimate Infestation, Nourish, Spreading Plague) I don't think are really that big a deal though.
