The real improvement IMO is that you no longer have to win to get the gold - you always gain xp for playing, no matter if you win or lose, and no matter what mode you play (even single player content gains xp). So, say you have a winrate of 50%. That would mean that you have to play 6 games to gain 10 gold. Now, you will be rewarded for each of those 6 games, and not just the three you win. This will also make it significantly easier for Battlegrounds players to gain gold.
