Be careful when choosing to discount spellstones with the bartender bonus too. Although spellstones can get discounted by cards like far sight and keep the discount when you upgrade them, if you upgrade a spellstone that had its cost lowered by a bartender bonus the upgraded form goes up to its original cost.

posted a message on The RoS adventure is far worse value than buying packs

Unless you think that golden pack is worth 1600g (400g * 4 paid wings), the only value in this adventure is the playable content itself.  Of course, there's nothing wrong with spending money on things just for fun.  This is a game, after all and if you think its worth it, I'm not going to judge you.  However, even though I'm normally a huge advocate of evaluating fun in terms of money, I don't believe this event is a good trade.  It's very easy these days to experience games second-hand from streamers and in this instance, that kind of experience is good enough for me.

If you're fine experiencing content second hand why wouldn't you be fine doing that to ladder as well? The fact that ladder has no story or sequence and it's being done all the time by tons of people makes it much better to experience second hand than an adventure where you'd probably have to watch a VOD and skip streamer and chat interaction to watch in its entirety.

Also for me as a f2p player while I don't have too much problems having some decent decks, I've come to terms that I'll never have a full collection, so if I had to choose between having sacrificing around 10 packs worth of dust and not have access to an entire game mode I'd choose the former in a heartbeat.

posted a message on Live Action - Rafaam on the Streets - Recruiting Part 1: E.V.I.L. Initiates

They hired an actor (or an intern) put on a costume and then had a cameraman follow him around for an hour if not less to make 100 seconds worth of content (excluding the intro and the outro). I'm going to take a wild guess and say they didn't exactly break the bank on this one.

posted a message on Single Player Content Announcement Coming May 9th

I can't believe that how long they are taking to release the adventure. I always enjoyed the solo content so I am looking forward to this one, especially with it being the start of a greater storyline and all. And I know that they probably wanting to keep the hype by spacing up stuff between expansions (like they do with the arena seasons as well).

That being said, I don't think that it will add to player satisfaction to have it over a month away from the release date since it gives packs as its reward so people will have to wait considerably with their gold or money before they have the full collection they can afford to play with. Thankfully I find arena to be the better game mode at this moment, otherwise I'd be more than mildly dissatisfied.

posted a message on Rise of Shadows Card Nerfs - What Do Pros Want To See Smacked?

Of course pros are still humans with certain likes and dislikes towards certain styles and they will tend to cry out against cards they belong into styles they dislike more. I still don't think that it makes them as unjustifiable as any player in their opinions. For instance I myself like aggro and combo decks more, and while I can see pitting every card in each player's deck against each other as epic if it happens once in a blue moon, I find it really boring when it happens every other game.

With that in mind I would like a dr. Boom nerf and wouldn't want a prep or Edwin nerf since these cards are the main reason rogue has a chance against warrior. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard about an Edwin nerf because as an individual card, its power level is way above most other cards, especially in a class like rogue where they got a ton of cheap cards to buff it. Even the miscreant nerf, while it might seem weird for some, Firebat had made a video that pretty much showed the correlation on how well a deck does against rogue with how easily you can kill their miscreant on 3. On the other hand I was hearing from twitch chat about how militia commander should be nerfed when a streamer was getting beat by one.

What I'm getting at is that while I don't think that Blizzard should nerf what pros say should be nerfed since they are human beings with preferences and not game designers, I think that pros are probably the most accurate in identifying the strongest cards of each class and what makes a deck stick together, so if a card is getting nerfed they are probably the best people to ask to narrow the pool for you.

posted a message on Upcoming Hearthstone Balance Changes - Giggling Inventor, Mana Wyrm, Aviana

Well I think the changes made were pretty decent in general but there were more changes that should have been made. Druid for instance has been ridiculous, in the sense that their core cards are so powerful that many times you could have gotten UIed in the face and still not know whether you're playing against maly, togwaggle, token, mecha'thun etc. I've even seen streamers play seaforium bomber druid and while not OP, it worked out decently because the rest of the cards carried them. Personally I would nerf spreading plague even more since druids traditionally aren't supposed to deal with wide board pretty well and druids being able to go plague and stuff like branching paths/ anti magic shell/ strongshell scavenger the same turn is pretty disgusting.

The other deck I'd really want to see a nerf towards is odd warrior. Not only you can feel it, but VS has even mathematically proved in one of their articles how this is the most polarized meta ever. The main culprits are quest rogue and odd warrior. Giggling getting hit means that quest rogue will be a lot less good, which is good for odd warrior. I'd really want to see something like upgraded warrior power giving 3 armor, because having a strong really polarized deck get even better for the meta can't be the harbinger of anything good.

Is it possible to have the decklists of people in the same group next to each other instead of totally randomly? It would be a significant quality of life upgrade for people curious to see who's favored in each group.

    Quote from Junus10000 >>

    Quote from Megido_Thanatos >>

they dont, this still $1/pack as usual

people (like OP) just dislike the idea lock a skin behind paywall and we have 16 pages of shitstorm like now

they are, last time it was 50$ for 70 packs, and don't even start with that golden legendary, that is worth a lot less then 20 packs, plus it is a price increase for the best card-pack and that's clear. how can you deny that?

It's easy to deny it. Personally, i prefer the golden legendary, you wanna know why? Easy.

The WW preorder was 50 bucks and 70 packs. The Boomsday is 50 bucks for 50 packs plus a golden legendary. This is clear.

1- Once you open 50+ packs, the dust returns of packs start to be diminishing. This is, you start to get a higher frequency on duplicates and therefore packs tend to give the player 40 dust, not the regular 100+ dust.

2- A golden legendary is equal to 1600 dust. This means that you have to open 16 packs that average 100 dust each, something already hard enough considering that you have to average that number in just 20 packs, and you also have to dust each and every card in those packs.

3- A golden legendary is WAY rarer and harder to obtain than any other card, and with this offer you already have it. You ALREADY hit the jackpot! With the 20 packs, you'll get WAY less than those 1600 dust, and it would be extremely rare to get a golden legendary.

4- A golden legendary, if you dust it, means you can craft a legendary of your choice. The importance of this is paramount. I would 100 times prefer to choose the legendary i want to get, than praying to the rng gods so that i get a legendary in those 20 packs in the first place, and then pray again so that it is the legendary i want.

Whether a golden legendary is worse than 20 packs or not is arguable at best.

So, please think twice before typing next time, and give it a little thought.

Wow, the math on this post is really really bad. Let's take it from the beginning:

    1) 100 is the average of what you get if you dust EVERYTHING. It's not the median (which could be as low as the minimum of 40 dust), but it is the average over all packs. Otherwise, if you had nothing then just getting the bare minimum of 4 commons and a rare would be worth 4*40+100 = 260 dust to you.

    2) Breaking the packs into 50+20 and saying that 20 is too small of a sample size to hit the average is kinda disingenuous. On average people who get 50 packs will get 5000 dust and people who get 70 packs will get 7000 dust. Let's keep it as simple as that, if you used creative math you could say that since the median is 40 dust then the most probable outcome for opening a single pack would be 40 dust, so 70 times that would be 2800 dust. Which in reality is less than you'd get from 50 packs. Math can lead to pretty unrealistic results when you aren't careful with your assumptions.

    3) You are correct in saying that you wouldn't typically get a golden legendary in 20 packs. If you care about owning golden legendaries this is the better offer.

    4) If you're planning on disenchanting it to craft a legendary of your choice though, again the average is called average for a reason, on average people who buy 70 packs end up with 2k dust more than people who buy 50 packs. So I believe that if you want a gold legendary this is the better deal, but if you would dust it to craft a legendary of your choice then the 70 packs total are better. And the reason for my belief is that 3200>2000>1600.

And don't get me wrong I think that the mega bundle is a decent offer for people who like to buy packs to complete their collection, it just gripes me to see math used incorrectly to support either argument. Also if people are getting hosed with this deal it's probably people who like to play arena and also like jaraxxus because they would need to fork out $80 exclusively for jaraxxus since the packs are useless to them. I can't completely relate because I don't care that much for cosmetics, but I would feel far more sorry for them than for people who are *forced* to live with the second best preorder offer that blizzard has ever made instead of the best.

posted a message on New Mage Card Reveal - Arcane Keysmith

This card seems like greatly overestimated.  The fact that it discovers a secret brings it up from being bad, to being potentially playable imo. The 2/2 body is next to inconsequential when it comes down on turn 4 at the earliest and secrets aren't usually that good on their own. I can't remember a time when you would put secrets in your deck when there wasn't a card that would thin it from your deck like arcanologist or mad scientist, unless of course we're talking about ice block/barrier and you're building a freeze mage.

The secrets of this guy can't be thinned, and unless there are way more secret mage cards to be revealed, secret mage is losing much of its power with cards like medivh's valet and kabal secret runner rotating out. Even some secrets are rotating out, so no more potion of polymorph for possessed lackeys or voidlords. Again, the ability to discover secrets might make it playable, as spellbender against paladin can be game-winning, but the lack of consistency might make up for that advantage.

In any case I just can't see a world where this and mad scientist, which thinned your deck and had the same body for half the mana (and on a turn where it could actually trade meaningfully) are comparable cards. I think even against arcanologist it falls way short, this is way more of a tech/filler card than a core one.

posted a message on New Neutral Legendary - Zola the Gorgon

I think this card can be amazing in razakus priest as well. As Trump said you can get an extra Kazakus. Have you still not drawn Raza or Anduin? You can copy some draw to cycle faster. Have you already played Raza and Anduin and have Velen but not enough burn yet? Just go Velen into Zola and you'll still have Velen in your hand, done 10 damage with your hero powers that turn, and have a 7/7 velen and a 2/2 down. Hell, it can even help if your Raza gets pulled by Dirty Rat turn 4 and not immediately dealt with.

posted a message on New Druid Weapon - Twig of the World Tree

This card isn't about ramping to 10, this card is about having an extra 10 mana crystals that you can use as you want. Once you get this card to have 1 durability, next turn you can go Malygos, hit with the weapon to have 10 mana, faceless your malygos and then go swipe double moonfire for 36 damage to the player and 12 to the enemy board in a single turn. You can't do that with Kun.

Also a class that has UI can never have too much ramp, let's not forget that in the expansion after this one, mire keepers and jade blossoms are rotating out. Also playing this forces your opponent to either remove it when you'd have 8 mana (effectively making this card a 4 mana nourish that also allows you to smack things) or risk that you can go medivh into Kun if you run him into UI for a massive power play.

I think there's a good chance that this card won't be game breaking as a 4 mana legendary gain 2 mana crystals should be manageable, but if your opponent doesn't hit the weapon removal, this card can be game winning. And let's not forget the fact that until people learn to play around this card there will probably be a lot of people who either ramp the druid to 10 on their turn 4, or they either get OTK'd by leaving it up.

posted a message on Making Dungeon Run worthwile playing

Well although I wouldn't say no to rewards what this mode needs is to give 10 gold per 3 wins and the ability to complete quests there. I agree that having a reward for your first 8 win of the day would probably end up grindy, even if it was a pack per week like tavern brawl you'd be "forcing" people who need the pack to do it whether they enjoy the mode or not.

On the other hand if you don't get gold per wins there you'd feel penalised for playing this game mode when playing standard or arena could help you fill your collection. And tbh I don't think that there is going to be that much more replayability over adventures once you've got the cardback and beaten all bosses. At least from what I've seen from the dungeon runs done in the Jungle Giants vs Grimestreet Grifters match today, good players won't see it as too much of a challenge which would make them more inclined to experiment (again, how often have you experimented with different ways of killing an adventure boss you've already cleared?).

Of course even with no extra replayability other than getting the cardback and seeing all the bosses you'd probably spend more time there than in any other adventure released so far. So even in the worst case scenario this expansion would bring more content than each other adventure so far, for it to be another game mode that will get the long term attention of people though, I think some rewards are needed, even if these rewards are the really bland golds per win and ability to complete quests. Then again, given the fact that this is a free mode of a free game that doesn't make you want to buy packs or utilize you so their game is better (like you would be doing if you were helping cutting down queue times) it would make sense if they didn't really want this mode to be as popular as standard or arena.

posted a message on Deathbringer Saurfang Boss Guide - The Lower Citadel

One of the easiest boss battles to beat if you are lacking in cards and you can do it with just the basic cards. His hero power is almost useless in getting value and his deck is lacking in both heavy threats and AOE removal for minions that can't be pinged and his only hard removal is crush. Not only that but he even gives you cards with skeletal knights and will attack face with his weapons making it easy for you to get the card advantage.

I did it on my alt account by picking garrosh, letting him hit face while I armored up, and once his weapon was gone I used vanilla minions like yeti and boulderfist ogres as well as korkons and shattered sun clerics to completely take over the board. You might use war axe for removal but save your reapers till he has no cards and you have board control to ensure he won't heal from your reaper damage and go in for the kill.
