posted a message on Best Overall Card in Hearthstone?

Northshire Cleric is also pretty broken :)

Generally, there are two types of OP cards in HS: directly OP (Dr. Boom, Tirion), indirectly OP (Antonidas, Northsire, Equality). The difference is that the first type are OP without any prerequisite, whereas the latter range from being insanely OP to being underwhelming, depending on the circumstance.

With all this in mind, I think Dr. Boom is the most powerful card because it clearly breaks the mathematical limits given to other cards - Tirion comes close, but is in my mind still a little more balanced than the good doctor. On the other hand, Northshire or Antonidas can dramatically surpass these values, but they need a setup. Since a setup is hard to evaluate, it's more difficult to say any of these cards are the most powerful ever, but it's definitely up to debate whether upfront value or potential value are considered more powerful.

An honorable mention should also go to Divine Favor; this card is just bonkers :P

posted a message on What is this new expansion's theme?

It is statistically impossible to please everyone. Personally, I really like this expansion, but to be honest, I liked every expansion and adventure so far each in its own way. I just love Hearthstone and I think Blizzard are making a great job in designing cards for this game, which, in my opinion, is far from an easy task.

Unless some crazy interaction comes along, I doubt anyone will play this card. But getting it out of Raven Idol will make a lot of players happy.

posted a message on New Legendary Card - Soggoth the Slitherer

A perfect vanilla is 9/10 (19 total), this card is 5/9 (14 total). Both Taunt and Can't be targeted are generally worth 1 stat (compare Sen'jin Shieldmasta, Arcane Nullifier X-21, and Spectral Knight).  Accounting for both abilities, this card is 3 stats short, which is 1,5 mana (based on the fact that perfect vanilla bodies increase by 2 stats per mana spent).

So it is clear that this card is overcosted. Its perfect price would be 7,5 mana. Priced at 7 it would be very competitive (but not OP because a 0,5 price reduction is quite acceptable - Dr. Boom was faaar worse), priced at 8 it would be decent due to its unique mix of abilities. At 9 it seems Blizzard wanted another not too good Legendary, which I do not really understand the reason for (Boogeymonster seems to fit that role nicely already), but I'm sure they have their reasons for their decision. Perhaps they felt a Neutral Ancient of War which can't be targeted had to be overcosted to see the light of day.

It has been said many times that the game needs "bad" cards as well: this has been discussed thoroughly throughout Magic's history and designers seems to agree that this is in fact the case. This card is obviously not game-breaking, but it's not extremely horrible either. Considering the amount of cards that give your random cards into your hand (such as Discover), this card is relevant; and believe me, as bad as it seems now, it is very capable to win a game in the late game (Raven Idol got a new friend to play with).

posted a message on New Shaman Card - Hammer of Twilight

This weapon seems really good and provides lots of value. Even without a nerf, it is better than Doomhammer in the right deck. Specifically, a deck that doesn't want to run Rockbiter and/or favors board control over face damage. Its deathrattle effect is good and a 4 attack weapon will definitely change the way midrange Shaman approaches the midgame. I'm pretty excited about the new Shaman cards; maybe midrange Shaman will finally be a thing, although such a dream is born whenever new Shaman cards are announced and so far that dream has been crushed each time. Fingers crossed.

Pretty sure this is Aprils Fools. Especially because the effect makes no sense: what does the use of the second card grant you?

     This.
You have a point. If this were supposed to be real, its description would include information about the second use, just like Shadowform. But MAYBE it does not have a stackable second effect, as Charged Hammer does not. If this is real, blizzard just broke the game entirely (again).
The second one resets your hero power so that you can use it again ;)

posted a message on Formats and the Brilliance of Blizzard

If a company makes a game I like, I really appreciate it if they can also find a way to make that game financially viable. Formats are going to make Blizzard more money. To me, that is a very good thing - the more money Hearthstone makes, the longer Blizzard will support it. Everyone wins.

This card is not as bad as it seems. Compared to Toshley; it loses 2 HP (which is a big deal), but bananas are generally better than spare parts and it gives both immediately. It is also a Beast. All in all, not a bad Legendary, but I doubt it will see any Tier 1 or Tier 2 decks.

posted a message on New Card - Cult Apothecary

This card is actually quite mediocre. Healing cards are already inherently situational, which makes all situational heal cards mostly bad. Sure, it might be good versus a full board of enemy minions (but only if you play a taunt or AOE to follow it up), but it does nothing against a lone Doomhammer, Hunter hero power, or combo/burn decks ... I just don't see this card be played much.

This card is really good. Toshley is one of the most underrated legendaries and this one is his little brother. I can see this card being played in all kinds of Rogue decks but luckily, it is not an auto include. As long as Blizzard are able to create cards which are good but are not auto includes, I will be a very happy player.

posted a message on New Warrior Card - Tentacles for Arms

I agree with the few people saying this card is not as bad as it seems. It is quite expensive and 2/2 are weak stats, but it is also a win condition all by itself (slightly more expensive than Hunter hero power at 2,5 mana/2 damage). It cannot be destroyed in any way (weapons cannot be silenced) unless you destroy it when the Warrior has 10 cards in their hand. It is also very flexible in the sense that you can re-equip it and it will simply return to your hand. If it were a 3/3, possibly at less than 5 mana, this card would be insane and people would cry for a nerf the first time they would play against it.

posted a message on New Legendary Priest Card - Herald Volazj

This cards seems like a value card to buff midrange Priest decks.

It does seem crazy when combined with cards like Sylvanas or Ragnaros, but in reality any little minion will do the trick. Having two minions on board when casting this card, it already provides very good value, especially if those minions have deathrattle, inspire, taunt, or some other ability. Even on an empty board, this card is not worse than Cabal Shadow Priest; casting a 6-mana 5/5 is not as horrible as it seems, given the upside.

That being said, I do not see this card as being OP from the start, which is totally fine. It's a fun card and definitely invites players to come up with the most efficient ways to abuse it while still providing a solid card that can be played in pretty much any Priest deck without too much trouble. I like it a lot.

posted a message on New Priest Card - Forbidden Shaping

Everyone saying this card should summon better minions or trigger battlecries is playing with fire (pun intended).

This card is amazing as it is. The fact it can summon bad minions is the only thing that keeps it from being OP. This game is all about tempo and value, and this card provides both; it can summon cheap minions to make up for slow hands, and it can summon expensive minions to give you that late game boost. Not many cards in this game are able of such a feat (Musem Curator comes to mind, but much less reliably). Even if this card summons a bad 7-drop, it is still better than any 3-drop in the game.

Additionally, this card is a spell, which provides synergies with cards like Wild Pyromancer; it is also able to summon Wild Pyromancer by itself AND trigger its ability. Playing with fire we shall be indeed ;)
