Well if you are adamant, illidan is really not seeing a lot of play at the moment, so I would say go ahead. Also IMO, play whatever type of deck you want.
Dont buy into this deck is #$%# type of BS. One can play pirates, quest, jade but does that make a person bad?? Some players like me, play multiple types of decks, so just go ahead to play whatever type of decks you want to complete your goal, you are not playing for anyone else or the internet.
However, you may also want to note that the new expansion is coming up, so the deck that you want to play may only be relevant for a couple more weeks.
Above are just my 2 cents, may you have fun and ultimately achieve your goal in this game.

Friend also gets 160g, it has been fixed:

Note that the pop up will say 80g for the player being challenged, but if you check your gold total, you will notice that 160g has been credited instead. I can confirm because I just completed a challenge friend quest ( I was the one being challenged).
