posted a message on Hearthpwn - Deck Discoverability

    Hey guys,

I'm a long time fan of Hearthpwn and have pretty much been visiting it since the day I started Hearthstone many years ago.

I have my own site that I've built in a similar-ish style to Hearthpwn but for Yu-Gi-Oh!

I've always wondered how Hearthpwn managed to deal with the amount of decks users are submitting. I mean, it must be a huge amount? How do decks generally even make it to the front page? Luck? Or is it stuff like YouTubers/Reddit sharing the deck which gives it traction?

I don't think decks are ever deleted by a moderator team are they?

Then there is the issue with low quality decks. Do you guys think they should be deleted? Or should all users be allowed to submit their own decks in their own vision?

Sorry for the huge amount of questions. I've really been mulling this over for the past few weeks and really wondered how Hearthpwn manages it.

posted a message on Modern Website Designs - What do you prefer?

    Hey guys,

This has been a long standing question/issue for me regarding what a modern website should look like. To make a long story short, in 2016 I wanted to create the "HearthPwn equivalent for Yu-Gi-Oh!". I'm not the best coder or designer in the world by any means but it's something I really wanted to do, so I set out and created a site that has been going strong since then.

But every day I'm looking at the site design and I'm not sure if it looks like a site of olden times or if it's up to scratch as a "modern" one.

So I have a few general question on what "modern" websites should look like.

The main one is boxed vs wide. Should you be looking to make boxed websites or wide ones these days? Take HearthPwn for instance, it has a nice boxed layout but has an overall wide navigation bar at the top. I tend to see this on a lot of other sites too. The same applies to the other similar curse site Futhead.

Then we have the relatively new curse site MTG Salvation, and I tend to really like the slightly wider but still boxed layout of this site. It's a bit like the best of both worlds really.

Then there is the other issue with the navigation bar itself. I previously mentioned that the above sites all have top level full navigation bars. Should that be the only place for them on modern sites? Is a navigation bar under a website "header" a thing of the past now?

And then lastly there is "how much white space is too much white space?" question. This always seems really conflicting. I've seen some modern sites use a lot of white space while I've seen others cram everything together to reduce the amount of white space available.

Even in terms of articles, should articles even be read on white backgrounds anymore or should there be a slightly shaded color like HearthPwn here?

Phew, so many questions. Hopefully the above wasn't too much of a mess to read! Thanks for reading guys.
