posted a message on Please help me build a new deck for 5k dust!

I second going with the budget zoolock list. I’m playing with the legendaries currently, but I play plenty of games where I don’t see either and you do just fine. It’s really reliant on knowing when to trade minions and when to go for the face, and it’s great for teaching that concept and learning the meta. If you like it but are hesitant on using two legends definitely pick Prince Keleseth. When you play him on turn one ore two, even turn five sometimes, it can let you win games that were otherwise un-winnable and give a nice boost to your win percentage. It also fits into a lot of decks that just don’t have a lot of or no options for two drops.

Aggro mage can be made cheap as well, it doesn’t require any legendaries although it’s another cheap deck that is easy to learn but take time to master and also has two legends that can really help with your win rate. Alu’neth And Luna Stargazer. It focuses on early game minions that interact with spells like Fireball and Frostbolt to clear a path for attack or just burn your enemy down to zero quickly. It’s pretty cheap without the legends as half the cards if not more are free or common and the rest are rare.

Token Druid is also an option that’s strong in this meta and you have enough of the cards for it to bring the cost of it down to 5000. You baisically fill your hand and ramp mana for a few turns, fill the board with small token minions and then play enough cards that increase their stats to win in a turn or two. I’ve only messed a little with a budget version of it myself but it has a lot of cards that have multiple functions and lets you feel like you’re doing a bit of everything. It’s cost is pretty much from being a lot of epics.

posted a message on Tweaking Zoolock for Rank 20-16, and Beyond

I don’t know why but I have a hard time getting up the first few ranks, even with a proven deck, and I think it’s because a lot of my opponents have unexpected cards 5hat mess up my strategy and often I win two or three games then lose all but a star or two. I start to do much better after hitting 15. Either way I enjoy playing zoo and have all the cards so below is the standard list that I’m trying now.

    Standard Zoo
Export to BBCode Export to Cockatrice Export to MarkDown Export to Html Clone this deck
    Minion (25) Ability (5)
    Loading Collection

I was running a variant with Sea Giant and Despicable Dreadlord replacing Doomgaurd and Lifedrinker and was doing okay but as much as I loved Dreadlord against odd pally and Annoying Inventor it was just a bit slow and Sea Giantglogged my hand as much as it helped me, I’m thinking it may be better as a 1 of at all.

What I’m really skeptical of is Lifedrinker because I like it as burn but the Heal package works just fine without it and it isn’t very good on tempo and I often wonder if I play it or wait for a Lightwarden or Happy Ghoul. On the topic of Lightwarden, has anybody ever played it without it bigger than 3/2 without it getting removed instantly?

I’m just trying to brainstorm where we can take this deck, even if it’s just moving a few cards into 1-of status for tech or things that better suit the changing meta.

posted a message on Fun/Viable Mage Decks?
    Quote from JulianGalaxy >>

     I second Big Spell Mage.

When I started this game I played a decent budget zoo list and Tempo Mage, eventually trying every kind of mage I can make. Tempo can be very fun if you get a good hand and things go right, you get to watch your 1-drop Mana Wyrm deal big damage as your opponents life ticks down really fast, then as they have you on the ropes but don’t heal you hit them with face burn. It’s pitfalls are that it has to hit curve and keep pace with your opponent, hopefully outpace them, and that defensive decks with lots of armor (control warrior currently) can shut you down easy if you hit a bump or two in tempo. I have yet to try it with the new legendary Lunara minion but she can be damn powerful even if she only draws you a card and trades, but anything past that can be amazing drawing four or five cards as your opponents health drops and minions disappear. It can be a vary luck based deck and certainly looks like one, but it does require its on form of strategy and thinking ahead. Like having a Fireball in hand and a Mana Wyrm on the board with your opponents health at 12. You could easily throw the Fireballat their face and hope your newly powered up wyrm gets the damage through and hope for more burn. But you have to take into account on how much face burn is left in your deck, how many cards are left in your deck, what minions your opponent is likely to play, how much healing or armor is possible for them. Having a deck tracker, especially one that gave you percentages on drawing certain cards can really help decision making here. But if you have two Arcane Intellect left in the deck and two aracanoligists and twelve cards left you can bet on drawing them and saving the fireball until you’ve drawn cards and thinned the deck of secrets while buffing the Wyrm for damage and likely trading into a taunt minion or something big late in the game all while whittling down their health with random target burn and your hero power until your opponent hits six and you can play your Fireball for the win. The whole time your fireball in hand was ready to hit something as big as a Lich King and finish it with your minion and use your card draw to fill up your board and hand and plant secrets for the win all while hoping you draw your second fireball for an instakill. There will be many situations like this with more variables but learning to play the deck is what will make or break your win rate on the games where you don’t get the “nuts draw”. It can also be built for relatively cheap, even with no legends because most of the deck is just commons and rares, with the exception of one Pyroblast, but Stargazer Luna and Alu’neth can win games and really up your win rate.

Big Spell Mage is on the opposite end of the spectrum. It requires Legends and epics plenty, with Frost Lich Jaina being a must and Lich King nearly as essential. The above list isn’t the be all end all list as there is lots of room for variation and tech cards. It is a control deck completely and patience is the key. The steamer Gaara plays it a lot and has a lot of videos of it in different forms and match ups. Unlike tempo your first four to six turns will be spent trying to slow down the opponent and draw cards at which point you will try to slow down the opponent with various boardwipes and spot removal like voodoo doll and polymorph which you usually want to hold onto for when your other removal isn’t an option and your opponent is playing bombs that you need to kill right away. Playing Frost Lich Jaina, hopefully on turn nin, is a huge boon and can make seemingly unwinnable games into wins. Using her you want to get as many minions to 1 health as possible, including your own sometimes. You cab build an army of water elementals that freeze your opponents minions and try and get them to one health to make more elementals to freeze and gain health with. Alongside Arcane Artificer gaining you armor it isn’t unusual to go from near death to full health and fifteen armor after playing Jaina. There are a lot of tricks like killing your own elemental with one health for a fresh one or the obvious one of making them by hero powering your voodoo dolls and polymorphed enemies. Then when your safe you can whittle at their health and drop bombs like The Lich King for the win or Dragon caller Alanna after a long game for over thirty damage on the board. I’ve played against Aggro many times where they quit after there board is cleared and hand emptied three or four times, and also many control games where you will go into fatigue and stay alive by life stealing elementals. I even once beat quest priest that copied and played their “8/8 taunt your health becomes 40” minion three times and having them Archgmage Benedictus me quite early. It can take a lot of patience and thinking and can have some of the longest games in the control mirror but I absolutely love the deck and the tension it brings in neck and neck matchups.

I’m sorry for the long reply but I hope this helps your decision and as far as I know the are the two most viable archetypes and in my opinion both very fun and challenging in there own way. Ask any questions or PM me if you want. The same goes for anybody interested in these decks.
