Have you ever played freeze mage? Kirin Tor Mage is miles behind Mad scientist.

It costs one more mana and you play the secret from your hand instead of playing it from your deck basically wasting you a draw instead of thinning your deck. The body size is neglectable for freeze mage.

People didn't run Kirin Tor Mage in freeze mage even before Naxx. 

Edit: Btw, Alex is fine. Setting it to 20 would make it too strong in fatigue/reno decks.

I have news for you, freeze mage is losing Mad Scientist in standard. It may not seem like much if you don't play freeze mage, but I can assure you that it's a huge blow to the deck. 

Alexstrasza certainly isn't OP and in no way in need of a nerf of any kind.

Freeze Mage is not unbeatable. Alex does not need nerfed.

I'm in the same boat as OP. Doing my dalies and that's about it.

The announcement of formats just killed my lust to play this game. I can barely get myself to complete dailies. It's like a depression. I feel like they abandoned a part of their game.

Please tell me I'm not alone in feeling this way. I'm not passing judgement, I will wait and see what the next expansion will bring. But what I am saying is my current interest in this game is dwindling. I feel like it's in a state of moratorium. No point in playing even though I should be saving gold.

By integrating the Standard format they will have the opportunity to print cards which will be almost necessary to obtain in order to build strong and competitive decks since card pool will be limited. Because of that many players will spend loads of money on the new expansions and focus they play towards the Standard format.

Wild format will just keep losing on popularity as more and more new players will join the game without options to buy old cards and ensure that their decks are competitive in Wild format. But also, Wild format is called 'Wild' for a reason and in time will become unbalanced and frustrating to play which will eventually result in more players joining the Standard format.

I just don't see how this change benefits anyone but Blizzard and professional Hearthstone players who practically get their collections for free through streaming and donations. And anyone who doesn't recognize this is either a very naive person or a Blizzard developer.

I think the Hearthstone design team has been taking lessons from the Wow folks (especially the ones responsible for WoD).  While I see the logical reasons of why HS is going to "Standard" format, what I find amazing is just how much opportunity is being missed here.  I mean, there is no reason to set Reddit aflame if you don't have to and there is no reason to intentionally go out of your way to make parts of your current player base riot.  Why cater to only part of your players, when there were ways to make everyone happy?  I get "Standard" mode.  I can see the logic behind it.  But why do it this way? In particular I seriously don't understand the following:

Why kill "Wild" mode already?

Wild mode is dead.  There are no interesting rewards you can get playing that mode that you won't get from Standard.  The esports community will be in Standard.  Ben Brode stated they won't be too worried (errr.....not going to do anything) about balancing issues in Wild.  New players won't even be allowed to buy these cards.  So Wild mode will die.  Maybe not today, maybe not in a month, but it is dead.  The player base will just get smaller and smaller until you are sitting there with a 30 minute wait time and then poof....it will be gone.

But why?  They could have made Wild mode into casual mode.  They could have given new players discounts on the previous xpacs and still sold them piles of cards and adventures.  They could have offered some different card backs or some other cosmetic goodies to getting ranks in Wild.  Sure, Wild mode wouldn't be considered as "pure" as Standard because we know it wouldn't be as balanced.  But it would have been fun and different.  Blizzard could have made at least a token effort at nerfing really silly overpowered cards like Dr. 7. And it would have catered to a different player base like those folks who are card collectors and who don't worry as much about tournament rankings.  

But nope.  With the role out of "Standard" mode you can see where the priorities lie.  HS will catered to new players who like to spend lots of money and to tournament players.  You can also see the blueprint going forward for what happens when there is balancing mistake made by the design group.  Instead of fixing it, in most cases they will just let it go away when that group of cards becomes retired.  

This is lazy design, insulting to portions of the player base, and people should be angry about it.  I was hoping that HS would take a different path than WoD and find a way to make the game interesting and available to the widest player base possible.  But it doesn't look like that is the case.  There were so many creative solutions to the problems of card bloat, balancing, and bringing in new players.  For some reason, Blizz isn't doing any of that.

P.S. - By the way....adding 9 more deck slots by just giving us a new SLIDER is an insult of the highest order.  We heard for months and months about how there were really good reasons we didn't get more slots and that we were going to be super impressed with the result (I was at least expecting some cool new UI redesign).  So apparently whatever was planned isn't happening, because adding a slider wasn't worth waiting months for.

They'll probably nerf it to oblivion like they usually do.

You didn't explain how it is good for new players and bad for old players. New players have to disenchant a lot of cards and gain a new collection each time expansions cycle out, which will be very frustrating. Old players have to keep paying and buy new expansions every year, which makes the game a lot more expensive. It's bad for both.
