posted a message on The Lore Help Thread!

I know it's not exactly a fan creations. However, it is related to creating cards since the lore is important. I thought it would be a great idea to make a thread that way I can direct or answer any and all questions you creators might have about lore and getting your wonderful ideas to fit into the World of Azeroth. Azeroth is expansive, extremely so and there's a lot of lesser known tibdits or nuggets that I know of that might make your card a reality to fit into Hearthstone. It's an epic Fantasy with a healthy dose of Sci-Fi. I can most certainly set you on the path towards something you're interested in.

I know Hearthstone has dropped 'Heroes of Warcraft', but it's still all about Warcraft lore for the most part, everything is based in it, even if they do get a little wild at times. So I figured I'd throw this thread up in Fan-Creations, since you are the guys who would be using it. I hope that's alright. So. Whether you're new to the lore or some-what knowledgeable, if you have a question  I can answer it!

Please feel free to drop by and ask any question related to warcraft or fitting something into Warcraft, etc. I will answer everything that get's posted here. <3 Fair warning, there's a lot of cool stuff in Azeroth and beyond, I can't say you won't get a bit hooked into it once you dive in.

Also, WoWpedia is a great source to finding most things on lore, do note though it isn't perfect and It can't really help if you don't have a staring point. Other good sources would be NObbel's channel on Youtube. Nobbel87. He covers a wide variety of topics by talking about them.

Or you can just ask me. I'll be here!

Edit: It would be wise to search the thread for keywords using the function in the top right hand corner to see if your question has already been asked and find your answer.

Oh dear. Sorry guys I've been incredibly sick but it's really nice Argentium is here to help out as well. Much love my man. <3 Yeah, Varian Wrynn is one of the most lore rich characters although the expansion he came in never really jived with me. Varian deserves another take some-day, much like Deathwing in my opinion.

posted a message on The Lore Help Thread!

This thread hasn't had a post in a few months, I hope people haven't forgotten about it. I definitely haven't although I've not been posting much lately I have been checking each day as I said I would! I thought I could use this time to talk about my favorite space mercenaries, The Ethereals. Due to all the speculation of it being a potential future race to play in WoW, there's been a lot of buzz about them lately.

The Ethereals weren't always incorporeal masses of energy loosely held together by bandages. They were once one of many sentient races on the planet of K'aresh, a planet with an arid ecosystem. The Ethereals aren't quite sure how Dimensius the All-Devouring were drawn to their planet upon that fateful day. Many years ago a void lord, named Dimensius the All-Devouring, began to envelop their planet in twisted arcane energies by opening numerous portals to the void, surrounding the planet and slowly enveloping it into the Twisting Nether.

The Ethereals panicked and used all their advanced technology to try and shield themselves from the creature. However their attempt was only partly successful. The immense arcane power stripped their bodies down in a powerful blast only leaving a mass of energy able to take form that was their soul, barely hanging on as it was. They used enhanced strips of cloth to bind their souls to and help keep them stable. The altered state, although a shock, was a bit of a blessing because it gave them enhanced magical power, leading them to be able to hold off the Void Lord for some time at a stand still. However, such a thing did not last forever.

Over the years Dimensius grew stronger and stronger and all the time he was boding, waiting to open the floodgates with his massive army. He succeeded in eventually overrunning the planet and destroying it, forcing the inhabitants to leave in desperation into the twisting nether. The Ethereum, sinister group of ethereals swore vengeance against the creature as the delved into darker and darker practices. They were ruled by a group of Nexus Princes, one of whom formed the Protectorate the main body force of the group. Another formed the Consortium a group more akin to space pirates that were smugglers, thieves, and traders.

There is another group known as the NExus-Stalkers, a malevolent group of Ethereals fused with the void. The Other ethereals do not approve and essentially exiled them. It was thought at first their goal was simply revenge but later it turned out their true goals were to become pure void energy.

They are largely a neutral race, mostly working for their own interests whether it being profit or otherwise. HOwever the Consortium eventually allied with the Sha'tar, a faction of draenei under the command of the Naaru A'dal. Their political system is similar to that of Goblins where a head person rules, in this case a Nexus Prince. They are also quite greedy, seeking anything that will further their profits. They are a technologically advanced race capable of creating eco-domes and other technical feats. They also are unique in knowing Technomancy, a form of magic that is able to 'transmogrify' gear in World of Warcraft. Transmogrification is making a piece of armor look like something else. Mostly a commodity.

They do not need to eat, drink, or even sleep.

Pretty much what Argentum said. Mechs are really just machines that are built by the races of azeroth. Of course Goblins and Gnomes seem to excel at producing and using machinery, However so do Draenei, Dwarves, and Blood elves with their own aesthetics and such thrown into it. Those races seem to be the most mechanically inclined.

posted a message on What am I doing wrong?

A lot of good advice here. As someone whose never won a card competition but have had cards get a fair amount of votes, Let me offer one more piece of advice.

If something you post gets not a lot of traction ask yourself why. You need to do this to improve upon your own creation skill set and this goes beyond just creating hearthstone cards but creating anything really. You may just need to scrap the idea entirely. I find myself sometimes getting to focused on an idea or mindset that I'm blinded from seeing the faults and forcing a square peg into a round hole, it's just never going to work.

It's also important to note that while some might not be terrible cards, people also frequently only vote on their favorites so even if it's something good or decent it might not be the top tier quality cards that everyone else is clamoring over, and that's okay too. Just accept your idea isn't as liked as theirs and move on.

I find most my best and well liked cards generally follows @sD2hn2a's advice they laid out for you. Cards like Careless  Archeologist which received a fair amount of votes.

posted a message on Favorite Card You Ever Created?

I've never seen a topic like this around here before and I thought it would be something interesting to ask. I was wondering, what is your personal number one favorite card you ever designed? It can be for a variety of reasons, either because it was a great card or it's a silly card that made you laugh. Please share this card and your reasoning below.

Personally, I like Thought Retention a lot. A card I had designed for the Spellbreaker in Class Competition 3. It was a card with a lot of variance and thought behind it, requiring your opponent to play around it. They had to be in fear of giving you a great card, making card order that much more important. Simple, but incredibly effective. There were a few close runner-ups but I'm sticking with this as my favorite card I have come up with in my time of creating fan-made cards.

I think the Versatile cards that can be used in a variety of situations are the best designed ones. Cards like Wild Pyromancer.

posted a message on New Legendary Card - Prince Taldaram

I don't' know why people act like you need to not include any three cost cards. If you must use Hemet, then go ahead but I see this as a late-game combo card. I voted meta defining. I don't have anything off the top of my head but I know somewhere out there is the ultimate cheesy combo because this is only 3 mana, that leaves a lot to play with.
