Pretty much this, and the problem with identity politics. If people think that taking things they use to define themselves as an individual and then knit that into a weapon to be used against anything that happens to run in opposition to that, you'll never end up with any sort of peace. Like, the irony that people that are so against puritanical Christian teachings and "being preached at" using the exact same tools of control when it's their turn would be humorous if not downright sad and alarming.
