Game is just feeling too dang fast.

Doing Reno, get an early Golden Spawn, discover a 4 drop.  Herald of Flame.  OK, maybe.  I take a risk and Golden it, and one-shot my next two opponent's boards.  I've got some good pairs, and discover a 6 drop a few turns later.  Not Kalecgos, so I just fizzle out.  It's highroll like mad, or die wicked early, before the game feels like it started.  Just so dang fast.  Kinda feels like a reasonable midrange start gets you basically nowhere anymore.  Closest thing to an actually-fun-game this entire afternoon.

Seems like you used to be able to play for like 2nd or 3rd place if you didn't get some astonishing highroll, but now... like... SMDH...

Exactly, highroll or bust, "OK" is not good enough anymore...

I'm glad to hear you are adjusting.

I will say this, the meta right now is tough, but it rewards decision making, clever minion positioning and calculated risks.

lol what decision making are you talking about? this is pure RNG I had 6600 rating on EU, now lost 3 games in a row, 7-8 place, totally crushed by Power Spikes 15-20 dmg in one turn, why? because RNG how can is this even possible on turn 7 this board? I had zero triples while all in the lobby had at minimal 2 triples and as I noticed early triples are game changing, so it's not decision making it's pure RNG

Get used to it. In this meta you either highroll with strong midgame minions, either you die before turn 11, simple as that. Unlike some other autobattlers, Battlegrounds doesn't offer you any comeback tools, so if you're behind you have to pray to RNG gods. otherwise you probably won't catch up.

I would just reduce Infested Wolf cost to 2 stars or remove him from the game entirely. For me it always was just a worse version of Rat Pack. It has +1/+1 stats, but can't scale his deathrattle and becomes useless very quickly. This is probably the worst minion from tavern tier 3 (or second to The Beast).

    @Toribasher

Now I'm 6500 back again and I think I know what was (is) the issue: game speed. Current meta works in such a way that if you are lucky enough and can seize the opportunity, you will survive (get an early Pack Leader + Rat and you've just secured yourself safe pass to late game). If you can't do it though (because RNG or whatever), well, try your luck in another game.

Moreover I think that it's no longer worth to think about the late game too early. It's way better to just fortify your board with anything cheesy and wait for the next occasion (like Mama Bear or Baron). I also know now that some builds can only work with certain champions (e.g without Brann or Shudderwock it's good idea to stay away from murlocs or pirates without Patches).

Lower-ranked players tend to overlook opportunities and focus too much on lower tavern tiers, so it's just more fun to play against them. You can try more fun builds and the game won't punish you immediately for being unlucky with low-rolls. I know it's not very fair to those players, but I fell victim to it myself (probably many times). Once I saw video on YouTube where some Russian streamer with 11K rating was playing against me (5900 rank back then) on his smurf account... Heck, even Kripp is doing this pretty often and the reason is the same: playing against lower ranking than your own is better and more varied fun, not repetitive grind.

If Blizzard fixes the game balance and adds a ranking system similar to normal HS (with stars and all that), then the problem should be minimized.

posted a message on .1% to lose

Well, in one game I won 2 rounds which I should have lost (I had less than 10% chance to win) and killed both my opps who should have killed me instead. Then, in the final round, when I felt very confident (I had golden Goldrinn, golden Baron and golden Macaw) I've lost with 99% chance to win and died. Karma is b... :).

I must say it actually helped me a lot :). Well, beating scrubs (I mean people below 5k ranking) isn't the most glorious thing, but few extra turns before real fight can work wonders. I've already reached rank 5500 and experimented a lot during that time. Now I understand better what works and what doesn't in this meta, so I can adapt better. By the way, in my opinion this meta is too fast (dmg output is too high) and better players can take too much advantage of it, making games too short.

Also such attitude is very helpful: It's always my fault!

It's never RNG, it's ALWAYS my lack of skill, so I have to do better. Of course this is not always true, because we all know very random nature of this game. If you have choice: Jaraxxus or Galakrond and then the game doesn't give you ANY demon until turn 8... I don't have to explain it, right? Yet it's still much better than dismissing responsibility for the result and blaming just RNG.

but in my opinion, turns 11-12 are well into the late game.

Exactly, but the point is, when I lose every single round, I don't think about late game, but just about the survival. It slows me down even more and makes things even harder, but what else can I do? In my opinion the main problem was that I couldn't build strong enough board in early and mid game and other players did it better than me. I think it wasn't matter of luck, but skill, because as my rank went down, other player's boards started to look more like mine again.

You seem to be just disregarding any advice people are trying to provide to whine about bad luck without saying you think you’re having bad luck, if you don’t want feedback just post your gripe in the salt forum.

If you want to participate in the discussion, please learn to read with understanding first.

I never said it was a matter of bad luck. Actually quite the opposite, I emphasized several times that the cards or RNG were not the issue. The reason was (or at least I think it was) that I was playing against much better players than myself and apparently I wasn't able to match their skill and keep up. This is something that cannot be easily dealt with. An amateur will not defeat world champion just because you advise him so...

Moreover, my answer you quoted was not a rejection of help, that was an explanation. You told me:

Track your games on a spreadsheet and record what the build was and weither you were offered minions that allowed an ingame transition or not.

So I replied that it's not possible, because there were no transitions and no builds at all. I wasn't able to have any, because I never made it to the late game (I was dead before I had a chance, around turn 11-12). What did you not understood about this?

People are living longer out of the midgame due to removal of cannon. This means later tiers are more diluted. Basically more people are getting to tavern 5. With Megasaur gone late game shifts are not really a thing.  So basically if you get to turn 5 with a comp and the game doesn't offer you the correct minions. you lose.

the RNG has shifted from the midgame attacks and tokens to the late game builds.

inb4 someone says something about, well in one game this happened.

Track your games on a spreadsheet and record what the build was and weither you were offered minions that allowed an ingame transition or not.

I wasn't actually playing any particular builds there. I was just trying to survive (by buying anything that would keep me going) and usually by the time I had a chance to buy anything specific, I was already dead.

As you climb, every little mistake become more costly.

True, but why I suddenly become the only one committing them?

    Quote from SlydE >>

Maybe you had a lucky streak to get UP in MMR?

Apparently my skill level is 4000 (I can win anything here), so that would mean 2600 points were matter of luck that I had for a few months...?

    Quote from SlydE >>

    Maybe you are tilted?

    No.

    Quote from SlydE >>

    Maybe you got unlucky?

I don't thinks so. I mean, 70% of the time I play bad heroes (I don't have tavern pass), but I didn't have it earlier either. Maybe this new meta requires pass more than before?

    Quote from SlydE >>

You need more games and focus to even things out.

Nah, I just didn't have the skills to match those people I guess. Heck, I didn't even know you could have board this strong, so early!

Do you know anything about recent changes to the matchmaking system or hidden MMR? Until last friday, everything seemed "normal". My ranking was around 6600 (in EU) and I was doing as usual (which means I was ending up in the top 5). Suddenly something changed. From saturday, I started to get crushed by literally EVERYONE (I finished about 10-15 games in a row in bottom 3). It's not even that I was very unlucky with cards, because everything was like it used to be before. Yet, other players were just outperforming me in every way. Their builds in turn 4-5 resembled those that I usually achieve in turn 7-8 (1-2 triples, high stats) and I was dying constantly around turn 10-12.

Then I had the idea that I need to lower my hidden MMR (you know, just to have fun, because being dead in bottom 3 before turn 12 is not). I started losing on purpose (leaving the match at the very beginning) until I got ranking below 4000 and then things normalized (I started to see players more on my skill level). Has anyone had similar experiences recently?

    posted a message on #DeletePriest

Two days ago I played against Priest and he generated over 18 cards in single match. When I was empty (used all my 30 cards as Handlock) he still had like 15 cards left. That was fun...

In my opinion, pirates without Arcane Cannin are now significantly weaker in early and mid game (Scallywag lost her main purpose) and they need a little buff. Also their late game build could use some help. It offers pretty high stats (if you were lucky with early Salty Looter or Goldgrubber), but often can't compete with poison, divine shield or cleave.

Beasts seem to be much stronger. Murlocs are less popular and that's a good thing :).
