There seems to be a lot of people who are very willing to defend blizzard or who are advocating the "you are not allowed to complain about something that's free, omg spoiled brats" mindset.
But people are straight up conceding when they play brawl and get Ragnaros.
It's not important what the win% of each is, when you compare it to how many people seem to really not want to get Rag in brawl. Is brawl balanced? Maybe. But it really seems like you have more fun as Nefarian, and that's not a good thing.
Personally, after 46 brawl wins, I feel that the times I won as Ragnaros, it felt like the Nefarian player had bad luck and I managed to barely scratch out a win and turn things around in the late game or like I might still have been wrecked if the Nefarian player had more luck with his hero power or had drawn one more big-ish dragon. When I win with Nefarian, it often feels like the Rag player didn't have a chance.
Even if Blizzard pulls out some metrics and shows us that it's totally 50/50, which I have huge difficulties believing, Ragnaros feels a lot more frustrating to play than Nefarian, and that's a bit of a failure no matter how you look at it.
This. Exactly this. Regardless of if internal testing showed it was 50/50 and that after two days in the wild the win rate is indeed 50/50, the FEELING is that Ragnaros is completely underpowered and only wins when a) Nef's hero power whiffs with total shite drawn and b) Rag's hero ability pings EXACTLY what it needs to every round.
My first tavern brawl, I started the game and the Rag player immediately Conceded. I got my pack and at that point only curiosity made me play again. Worst initial experience ever and it was because after it was only 6 hours live, there was already a feeling within the community that Rag was super UP and that the best thing to do was to Concede till you get Nef.
Writing as a professional game developer myself (since mid '80s):
It's unbelievable how some people are complaining and even getting angry about something (Brawl) that:
1) is 100% free, in terms of money and everything else; 2) is not required to be participated in; 3) does not enforce itself onto you; 4) can be just left aside if not to one's liking; 5) (temporarily) grants a free reward for winning once a week.
It once again says enough about the sad mentality of the mindset of 21th century overly spoiled gamers. I don't want to be judging, but I find it outright disgusting. Also it works demotivating for as far as my work goes.
Writing as a fellow game developer, it does seem like the balance between Nefarian and Ragnaros is not right and a couple of hours of play testing should have shown this up.
Unless RNJesus was particularly fiesty for that whole time, Nefarian should have won the majority of games. I still have high hopes for future Tavern Brawls.
Kind of a stupid question, but seeing the wildly differing opinions on the balance of it.
If this really is a "brawl" and there's no MMR of any sort being taken into account, that would explain a lot. All you need to qualify for Brawl is to have a hero to level 20, which you can do playing against the AI if you want. At that point, Legend players are matched with Rank 25 Angry Chickens?
I would have thought they could just use your Casual MMR... but it seems like maybe they aren't matchmaking at all, which in principal sounds fun but in practice results in a shit experience for most people.
Figured I'd try it. Hit Play, game loads, I'm Nefarian. Other player insta-concedes.
I get my pack and.... I'm done? If people are really insta-conceding because they FEEL that Ragnaros is way underpowered compared to Nefarian, then that's just a SHIT job by Blizzard, I'm sorry but it is.
I still love the idea, and I'm sure future brawls will be fun, but they DEFINITELY need some incentive to continue playing beyond the pack.
I could also see .. The Boom Bot card acting like a Mad Bomber card it might hit your minion or your face .. as well since the Goblins mess up their inventions anyway
My stance has always been that the bots should be truly random. That's what everyone THOUGHT the card was gonna be when it was first revealed. Those saying that would make the card useless are spouting hyperbole (are Mad/Madder Bomber "useless"?) unless by "useless", they mean "no longer an auto-include in every deck".
No, we mean "not played in ANY competitive deck", just like mad bomber and madder bomber. Sorry but if the bots were random amongst allies and foes, the Dr. would be garbage and not played ever.
Would you guys play him if the Bots did damage between all characters except doctor boom or is that too much?
He would be GARBAGE at that point and not played. The fact the bots do SUCH random damage means that they are fairly unreliable.
His main power is that he generates 3 minions for the price of one and that one is a big threat while the others have (unreliable but useful) deathrattles.
They *might* nerf the bots to 1-3 damage, but that'd be IT I reckon. I'm seeing him a lot less these days, he's very good, but I don't think he's OP and I suspect Blizz are fine with him where he is.
You pay an entry fee and submit 3 decks. You then play against random other Conquest players until you either win with all your decks or lose with all of them. Then get rewards based on that.
Either that or Constructed arena style, where pay an entry fee, play any Constructed deck you want and have X amount of lives. You get rewards at the end based on how many wins you had. In fact, it'll probably be the exact same 12-3 Arena scoring (maybe even rewards?).
I would actually freaking LOVE a Statistics mode with all your stats in it. It probably won't happen though because reading in-depth about how much you suck is a bit of a turn off from playing and spending money :)
I'm not real sure about a Tournament mode tbh. You'd need at least 8 players right? What happens when a player loses the first game and then decides to quit/go offline? Are there time outs? Are there bathroom breaks? What happens if you want 16 or 32 players?! It's not that easy to organize tournaments on the fly between well known streamers, imagine trying to do it with random strangers.

What he said.
I don't think rogue will be Maiev.. though her hero power would be freaking epic in that case!

Happy to have been proven wrong.. Medivh >>> random troll mage.
Would have preferred Shandris to Alleria but it's fine.
So with no Horde/Alliance split, the remaining pics are more open:
Shaman: Ner'zhul or Rehgar Earthfury - both much more well known than Farseer Nobundo?
Priest: Tyrande!
Warlock: Cho'gall or Varimathras
Druid: Still Hamuul
Rogue: Vanessa van Cleef
Paladin: pre-lich king Arthas

Kael'thas.

It'll be Constructed Conquest mode I bet.
