I'm using a greedy Cube Warlock deck with Prince Taldaram, Barnes, Umbra, Skull weapon and DK Gul'dan, it's fun and very powerful (thinking of swapping Barnes for Rin though). However, I guess it's not gonna be so strong in the long run, so far I didn't see anybody playing counters or tech (no oozes nor mamy silences), but I guess that if this deck keeps on being strong, then people will start teching. Or maybe they already started, I'm a kind of "slow player" and I have just 3-4 games a day, so maybe I'm not the perfect sample (started from rank 18 a week ago and now I'm rank 9 on a streak).
Let's be real Explosive Runes has no counter play. you either play a big minion to limit face damage and be sad that your big minion is now dead or low health, or you play something small and take a million face damage. There is no good solution against this card especially since mage burst potential is very high.
Play a Possessed Lackey into any of their secrets and make them suffer *coff* concede.
I am playing No Minion Hunter{which is very fun to play, because I crush mage every time I use it :) }
Since there is no minions, in theory, you add the Barnes and Yashraj Combo.
However, is that a good or bad idea?
I tried the deck with Barnes and Y'shaarj a couple of times as it was one of my favorite during Karazhan meta, but I drew Y'shaarj BEFORE Barnes twice, and in that case both Two My Side and Rhok'eldar were noth playable and I ended up losing the game. I'm sure that you can give the deck a try too, but it is not so consistent as the minionless one.
I'm a bit disappointed, as I was expecting to discover and choose the companions (the card doesn't say "random"). Indeed, yesterday I won a game by summoning 3 Leokk and 1 7/2 Huffer from two turns of to my side...
I tried the deck, and for two games in a row I was holding all the combo pieces but I didn't get the weapon, even if I was basically scavenging my deck :( I ended up playing a Doomguard in the second game, praying for not discarding any of the combo pieces (I did in fact lose a cube). It was the play of the game though, because I managed to control the board against the same mid-range pally and 4 turns later I played Gul'dan and gg :)
maybe it's a stupid question, but how does the buff from this weapon interact with Spiritsinger Umbra? I mean, I assume that the buff is a deathrattle, but would it trigger when the buffed minion is played with Spiritsinger Umbra on the board?
I'd probably argue the opposite, that it's one less set to collect and one of the larger sets in terms of dust/legendaries. The current state makes it way harder for a new player since they have to collect the classic set and 1-3 expansions to get current.
Having new classic or standard would eliminate a huge base set for a new player to have to collect. Especially since all current expansions are based on it.
Exactly, you're eliminating a huge base set and replacing it with a 'smaller' base set? So a player that's been away for a while could get screwed as his core set is now gone, so he's starting from scratch. A new player that starts playing at the very beginning of the new base set release would be fine as everyone would be starting off that same point. But if a newer player joins towards the middle or end of a release they are also put in a bad spot as they might be wasting their time earning cards that are going to be gone in a few months. And if the new player is planning on being F2P, well, sorry I guess....
I have to reiterate though. I would like to see rotating base sets, it has a way better chance to keep the game fresh for more serious players. The best part of the game is the innovation of new decks IMO. So set rotations would be great. It's a tightrope walk for sure and I would like rotating sets as I do pay for packs in most cases, but it could very easily limit the player base. And a smaller player base usually means the end for most games.
They may not play in standard, but there's always the wild mode, I don't understand what would be the problem of playing there. I mean, right now there are broken interactions between vanilla/classic cards and the newer expansions that make the game not fun and highly not interactive. This has to change eventually. Blizzard should just adjust the matchmaking for those who start from scratches.
I wanna include also Rotface in the decklist, and I was thinking of excluding Cairne Bloodhoof for it, but then, what should I exclude for Skulking Geist? it's full of Jade Idol, Evolve and other Highlander Priest's shenanigans out there... thoughts?

how about the Possessed Lackey to push the Doomguard out of your deck in case you don't draw either the demon or the weapon? maybe too clunky?
