posted a message on New Card Reveal - Worgen Abomination

I have two main complaints about this card: it's a version of an already existing card and it's designed so it can't fulfill the purpose it was created for.

    1) It's just a bad version of Baron Geddon, and it's not a secret to anyone here, because unlike Baron Geddon this card demands a setup, and in spite of what the majority tends to say about Whirlwind effects and how easy it is to activate this worgen, to keep a whirlwind effect specifically for such a card isn't either easy or productive. Some people compare it to Sleep with the Fishes, but the comparison is plainly unfair. Sleep with the Fishes is a two mana spell which is extremely flexible. This Worgen Abomination is 7 mana, and by the time you can play it, you are easily out of whirlwind effects in form of cards. The other possibility is to combine it with Bladestorm, and it becomes a 9 mana 6/6 - Deal 3 damage to all other minions. Abyssal Enforcer laughs at this. And let's not pretend it's going to live a single extra turn just because it has 6 health. 6 health at this stage of the game is a mere joke.  Also - for all who might say it's incorrect to take Baron Geddon and Abyssal Enforcer as examples because they hit your own face - such cards aren't played if this drawback isn't negated by the class playing it. Both Warrior and Warlock have strong healing effects to completely forget about this issue. The fact that Worgen Abomination doesn't hit the face is minor and most of time insignificant.

    2) Worgen Abomination can't do what it is designed for. By that I mean that a two-damage AOE is an anti-aggro tool aimed at clearing a fairly small-sized but flooded board. Sleep with the Fishes is good exactly for that reason - it has just the right amount of damage to clear the board at the stage of the game it is cast. But what board can realistically Worgen Abomination clear? Try to remember when Baron Geddon was successfully played last time for clearing purposes (outside of DK mage just for the sake of healing). It was at the time wallet warrior played it - almost three years ago! And now we see this effect tied to a lategame minion again? The effect is aimed at dealing with small board which exists mainly in the early game, and this is the main contradiction.

Overall, I'll be more than surprised if this card makes it into a single t3, 2 or 1 deck. The only redeeming factor is redundancy - if anybody wants to play two more pseudo-Geddons.

And for god's sake, it's so dull and unoriginal, I don't understand, is this so hard to make more creative and interesting cards in the set than freaking 10%?! Most of cards and mechanics we've seen so far are just twists on older cards and mechanics. I envy those people who are genuinely hyped about the upcoming expansion.

posted a message on Witchwood OTK Bells Paladin

When the expansion hits, I'm going to play an OTK paladin deck which can OTK only mages and priests. I'll try to optimize the list  to make it as viable against other classes as possible, but the main goal is to have tons of fun destroying mages and priests (assuming they exist on ladder and play specific minions). So here is the idea: if combo priests and tempo mages survive the meta shift, I can more or less safely expect they'll play Sorcerer's Apprentice and Radiant Elemental, which are the crucial part of my combo. It is rather simple and elegant but a bit tricky to perform.

So here is the combo: when a mage or a priest plays Sorcerer's Apprentice or Radiant Elemental, I copy it with Faceless Manipulator, then copy it again with Prince Taldaram, then play Stonetusk Boar and finally buff it to the necessary amounts with Sound the Bells! which obviously becomes infinite this turn. The whole combo takes 4 cards and 9 mana. The most important part in this strategy is to keep their spell cost reduction minions alive if they are played too early for you to perform your combo either because of low mana crystals or not having all the combo pieces. In this situation I'm going to do either of two things: I can Humility the minion so it doesn't hurt me very much and not trade into it ever (though it's pretty risky to leave a spell cost reduction minion alive for a long period of time); or (and this method is much more reliable) I can Prince Taldaram or Faceless Manipulator it and then Youthful Brewmaster it. Now i don't need it to stick on the board.

All in all, the deck won't obviously be anywhere near successful, but I expect to have a lot of fun, and hopefully I'll encounter enough mages and priests to use my strategy.

P.S. It will be a shame if the Echo animation is not fast enough and I won't be able to make a 30/30 Stonetusk Boar during a turn.

posted a message on Weekly Card Design Competition 7.13 - Submission Topic

I wanted to create a card which encourages rogues to use Baku or Genn which are not appealing to this class initially. While this card doesn't necessarily give a huge advantage of using Baku or Genn, there is no reason not to use them if you are playing this card. Since Genn provides more comfort of hero power usage, the even-cost version of this card is more expensive and unreliable though it can change things in your favor tremendously - if you are lucky enough. On the other hand the odd-cost version has a reliable strong effect, which requires you to lose quite a bit of tempo during the game (by using your 2-cost hero power) in order to maximize its value. There is one more nuance to this card: if at the start of the game your deck had both odd and even-cost cards or if you obtained the card due to some spells or effects, it transforms into its third, useless version. In both cases it happens because the card's requirements weren't met. Even if you have a full odd or even-cost deck, getting this card during the game won't transform it into a "playable" version, since the effect had to trigger at the start of the game.

For all the people implying this card is not bad or even good and others just don't understand its power, please! When the expansion hits, take a screenshot where you craft this legendary and close the crafting window so you can't disenchant it immideately for the full cost, and I'll believe that you actually said what you thought. Right now you are all only a bunch of hypocrites. CRAFT THIS FUCKING GARBAGE AND SHOW IT, HUH? DON'T HAVE THE GUTS TO DO IT?!
