You really talking about epic, saying nothing good here and not even mention Piloted Sky Golem ? Rest is interesting to read tho

The criteria for "good" as put forward in his argument seems to be "sees extensive constructed play across multiple decks" so I suppose Piloted Sky Golem doesn't quite make the cut.

posted a message on Going infinte and retiring bad decks

I don't retire decks often, but I have in the past when I simply do not want to play that deck. It's not a good plan, really. I've done the same at MtG tournaments where I've dropped $30. Make a bad deck and just not want to devote the time or energy to try to make it work.

On a side note, every time I've retired I've gotten one pack and 50 dust, while at 1 and 2 wins I've gotten one pack and 35/45 gold. Given the average content of a pack given that I have most of the cards I need, 50 dust is worth more than a pack, and worth way more than the measly amount of gold I could have gotten for a win or two. Silver linings.

posted a message on The true issue with GvG, and maybe it's not what you think.

The argument of the card pool being too small in GvG always struck me as a little odd. If there were more cards, one of two things would happen; either more cards would see play, meaning that there would be more cards you need to collect, or the same number of cards would see play because they'd be competing for slots, in which case you'd get even more useless duplicates. What it sounds like OP is actually asking for is for the playability of commons to go up while rares/epics/legends goes down. That, or just increase the number of common cards in the set so that you don't feel like you're opening as many duplicates, even though you'll never use them anyway.

As for the theme, I guess I'm in the minority but I love it. I like fun, goofy stuff sometimes. Not all of my games need to be dirt-scale realism. I wasn't really expecting Skyrim the card game.

This is certainly exciting. BRM was a little before my time in terms of WoW, but I really enjoyed the Naxx expansion so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one too.

posted a message on Questions to top rank players :

The number of games it will take you will depend on your skill, some amount of luck, and deck choice, so it's hard to say how long it will take you to rank up to ten from twenty.

At rank fifteen I believe there are four stars per rank, and ten plus it's five stars per rank. At rank five you stop getting bonus stars for win streaks.

Generally, players consider rank five to legend to be where things get real, but it depends on the time of month and the meta in general.

posted a message on Help to beat Freeze Mage.
    Quote from avoidiam »

I realize this is an old thread, but I just got smoked by a freeze mage and wanted to ask.  Without designing a deck to specifically beat freeze mage, what is the best general strategy when facing one?  I was playing demonlock and had him down to 2 when I popped the second ice block, then got hit for 24 damage next turn.  Is there a real counter to this, again, without designing a deck to specifically beat it?  Or you do just say okay, I only face maybe one a day, take the loss and move on?

That's what sorta annoys be about Hearthstone sometimes is that it doesn't really seem designed with counters in mind.  Hell, mage itself is the only one with a counterspell.  I run loatheb, but didn't get it before that round.

Well without specifically targetting the deck the best you can do is identify what you're playing against and try to apply enough pressure that they're forced to use their resources quickly. Try not to give them time to cast things like Arcane Intellect, hit them hard and fast and save silence for doomsayer. If you can make them cast a frostbolt and a fireball on minions it's going to be very hard for them to assemble the necessary damage to kill you.

Interesting idea but the cost reduction is basically irrelevant. You're never casting this early, all the overload clause does is make it so you can cast it on turn ten even if you're overloaded.

posted a message on What to Craft?

If control Warrior is something you're thinking about, then Baron Geddon is a very solid choice. Of the others the only one I'd really consider would be Al'Akir, with a nod to Mal'Ganis if you want to play either control Shaman or Demonlock.

posted a message on Why is Midrange Paladin so bad suddenly

I struggled a lot with Paladin this last week before switching to Druid which has been doing very well. I think the problem might have to do with the rise of Rogues and midrange Hunters. Rogues can just kill everything over and over and the new Hunter (which really is a lot like the old hunter), can pressure your with good minions early and then start dropping hay-makers. Paladins aren't really that well equipped to fight either of those strategies, preferring grindier control matchups or aggro where they can kill squishy minions.

Halfway through rank 2 at the moment. I've actually been having more fun with the game than ever. Weird.

posted a message on Yo Yo-ing at rank 5...help?

The meta from rank 5 to legend is weird, and pretty volatile. These tend to be the players that devote the most time to the game, and so they probably watch streams and spend time on websites (like this one, for example), trying to see what is working and what isn't. The streamers, most of whom are in legend and trying to climb, tend to switch decks around and try new things because that's sort of what you need to do to stay competitive at that level. As a result, in the 5-legend area you find a lot of people taking their decks and trying to make that last push to legend. I'm not making a moral judgment here, but what this means is that things will change, and they'll change fast.

In regards to what you can do to keep climbing, I'd say that unless you're really dropping try to play a class you are familiar with and know the ins and outs of. Sometimes it will be the case that your deck choice just isn't good, and you'll need to move on. I was struggling this season because the two decks I have the most familiarity with are Handlock and Control Warrior, and for a long time they were poor choices. Handlock probably still is.

In general though, my advice would be to go with decks you know, make some adjustments as needed, and try to ride the waves of the rocky meta.

posted a message on Bolvar or illidan?

I prefer Bolvar personally, and he certainly seems to prefer me seeing as I've opened five of him in 140 GvG packs. But he could certainly be good, especially if you put things like Haunted Creeper or Echoing Ooze in your deck. He's already great with Muster.

posted a message on Crafting Antonidas, Tirion or Thalnos for ladder climbing

Antonidas is the lowest investment on your part given the decks listed (I'm assuming you have Naxx). You could also consider double combo druid with the legends you have, depending on if you have ancients of lore or force of natures.
