posted a message on New Shaman Common Card Revealed - Cagematch Custodian

Looks like Shaman is getting another weird archetype that Blizzard *really* want to work, or are at least content with dedicating a large amount of cards to in this set.  Freeze Shaman has gone down in history as kind of a joke, so we'll see how this goes.

I know we got our annual unplayable Epics and uninspired Legends but can we please start a consistent trend where Hunter gets 1 cute beast per expac?  Let us have at least 1 nice thing.

    that's it that's the post

maybe.  Problem is Deathrattle is an inherently slow mechanic that requires too many synergies/too much mana investment to really make quicker.  If the meta were slower, MAYBE this could generate a solid amount of value in the late game, but to contest something like Priest Paly or Mage you'd need really solid Deathrattles.  In Wild there's definitely more of a home for this deck, with access to really good Deathrattles.  One of Call of the Wild's strengths was a lack of necessary setup.  It was strong on it's own, but you need to draw and invest mana and cards in hand in order for this to do anything.  And it needs to hit good Deathrattles, which makes the ones you can run more narrow.

This would probably be the top of the curve for a Midrange Deathrattle list in MADF Standard, but I'm not sure how well that list could perform in a meta that could be too aggressive for it.

i understand where you're coming from with the "competitive" angle, but a lot of people play casually and just want the game to be more accessible without spending large sums of money

ah yes, because Hunter cards that cost higher than 6 have historically been bangers!

tbh i feel like each class should have a Blizz employee that represents it and ensures thematic card design, the way MTG has "Color Ambassadors" so that each color still keeps its identity in check.  Maybe then we could have somebody who cares about Hunter designing Hunter cards.

Hunter has been paying for Undertaker since it got patched, tbh.  Hopefully with the Basic Set rework they actually give Hunter something that's good and original, since it has nothing of its own.  Not a single mechanic in Hunter is unique to the class, and it's really sad because Hunter has my favorite themes and aesthetic out of all 10 classes.

It wouldn't be a new Hearthstone expansion without unplayable Hunter Epics and bland, unoriginal Hunter Legendaries!  I've been consistently disappointed with the direction they've taken Hunter each expansion that I've basically given up hope that they'll ever do anything interesting with it.  Exceptionally annoying is that Mage got a stronger version of this card for the same Mana cost.

Has anybody asked how Guess the Weight works if your next card is the same cost as what you got?  That would be an automatic loss right?  No dice?

I just wanna have fun damnit.  Winning is nice, but at the end of the day, I want to enjoy playing games.  Ranked or not, fun is the reason games were originally made.

posted a message on Card draw imbalance

I'll say it feels bad to play Hunter, who needs to jump through 4 or so hoops and needs well over 7 mana to actually *draw* cards and gain advantage, against Demon Hunter, who has the most efficient draw in the game right now.  Watching classes with efficient card draw as Shaman is sad, as Shaman's best Card Draw Engine is in Wild and still requires your deck to be built a specific way and requires yet more hoops in game.

Class Identity involving no access to resources is bad design.  From a mechanical and game feel standpoint, it's plain unwise to give some classes access to a core mechanic of a card game, while some don't get it.  Cards win games.  Cards are put into decks to be played.  The person who plays more cards wins more often, and the person who plays fewer cards usually wins fewer games.  Hunter can't actually *gain* advantage.  Shaman can't either.  And that's all in the basic/classic sets, and Blizzard doesn't want to change it.

    I'm on Team Give-Hunter-Card-Advantage
