Horrorwolf posted a message on What do you believe is the biggest contributing factor to existing players not returning? (POLL)Posted in: General DiscussionNothing will bring me back. Hearthstone in it's currently state is just a painfully bad gaming experience with great art and sound design. Nothing more. Powercreep is off the scales, it's literally infested with RNG, discover discover discover, add add add a card, created by created by created by.
Just an awful game that is not even a shell of what it was created to be.

thazud posted a message on What do you believe is the biggest contributing factor to existing players not returning? (POLL)Posted in: General DiscussionPersonally, I quit Hearthstone prior to the release of the Scholomance expansion. The main reason I quit Hearthstone was because RNG became too big a factor, and I did not enjoy the player experience anymore.
However, the reason I won't come back to the game is: the economy and packs. I have thrown more money into Hearhstone than I'd like to admit, and even so my collection is far from full.
- It is simply too expensive to catch up. Hearthstone offers little to no help to catch up. There are only two ways to come back: 1) Pay up 2) A major grind. I do not have the patience to grind Hearthstone because the I don't like the player experience enough, so that basically excludes option 2.
- Packs! Because even if I do plan on spending money on the game again then the pack system might screw me over. I have bought multiple pre-order deals and 40 pack bundles (50 €!) and often I have not gotten anything out of it. Sure, a bad legendary, a bunch of useless epics and so on. But the cards I need? Nah, better luck next time. It's just tedious to open packs.
Compare this to Legends of Runeterra: Great economy, F2P friendly, you buy cards and not packs and so on. I have been able to craft the entire previous expansion (except for a few epics), and I can craft every relevant card of the upcoming expansion. As long as Hearthstone is more of a gamble than a collector’s game, I am out - except for a few game of battegrounds here and there.

Horrorwolf posted a message on What do you believe is the biggest contributing factor to existing players not returning? (POLL)Posted in: General DiscussionNothing can fix this game and there are several reasons.
1. Boring. How? You literally see nothing but the top two Meta decks from every class over and over again for months on end. Streamers and netdecks destroy this game minutes after an expansion releases due to them publishing the best decks for laddering on day one which kills over 80% of the other cards from that set and destroys any creative test deck period for players.
2. Deck trackers/HS Replay stats. Because most people are too dull and can't win without some kind of an edge, we are also forced to run trackers on top of HS thus removing any sense of organic draw. And again the people that play HS only for the best most degenerate decks ruin it for creative and fun seekers.
3. Too many duplicates of high-powered cards generated mid-game that were originally (and correctly) designed not to exceed 2 per game, 1 per Legendary which is obviously game breaking.
4. Way way WAY too much game swinging rng.
5. Obnoxious and annoying MMR system for casual and ranked play. Let people run into randos.
6. A now practically useless Classic card set due to powercreep and the lack of desire by Blizzard to buff older sets.
7. Badly broken class balance/identities...recently made much worse due to the recent inclusion of the poorly designed Demon hunter who was clearly designed to sell packs and not to balance/harmonize the classes.

(POLL)Posted in: General DiscussionRNG is too common and in a game that wants to be an esport, it's just too much, for me should be just reduced to the topdeck (there are good cards like polket that can control it <3)

PewPewPiew posted a message on Disapointed in Hearthstone nowPosted in: General DiscussionQuote from Warnerve75 >>First off - this isn't a salt thread so if all you're going to do is post a reply with a link to the salt thread then please don't bother. This isn't about one deck or card being OP, more about the general tone of the game.
The main point is that I'm pretty disappointed with the direction this game has taken. So much of what made Hearthstone Hearthstone is gone, and winning and losing seems more and more like some crazy coin flip. It feels like there's very little interactivity and too many games end up being decided by random events. Take aggro. It used to be that you had to manage the minions on board, play around board clears and keep some resources in hand in case there was a board reset. Now - you just dump your hand and endlessly re-fill your hand. Board clears have been power creeped by minions so you don't need to worry too much about those any more. In contrast control is mostly absent because the excessive resources avialable to aggro overwhelm the available removal.
Look at the decks which have made up the recent meta and you can see they all either have some cheesy gimick that makes them viable or they can draw their whole deck in 10 turns. You can also see there are almost no control decks. I've highlighted some them below but feel free to disagree.
Mage - full RNG whether it be mana cyclone mage or highlander mage. Whether it be a board full of 5/5's and 8/8's on turn 4 or a clutch Reno spell to turn the game RNG is the key. Don't expect to attack with your minions either - they're too cold...Turtle mage (now dead) was also a blast to play against.
Hunter - mostly aggro/face these days. Drop your hand and go face. Use snowballing tempo tools to make some highly effecient mana plays to stop your opponent doing anything (via secrets/hero power combo). Refill hand with voracious reader when resources are low.
Demon Hunter - I only see soul shard DH. Hit face every turn while removing every minion the opponent plays and doing stupidly large burst damage/mininon removal/healing at the same time. Refill hand at will and draw entire deck by turn 10.
Paladin - mosly libram/pure/broom - Despite all the hate paladin generated I don't actually feel this deck is too bad. It lacks draw and can run out of resources but can also steamroll you if the minions stick. Doesn't really do anything super cheesy appart from Argent Bragart and Lady Liadrin. Still has potential for RNG through Lightforged Crusader
Priest - res or Gala - both feel gimicky and are influenced heavily by card draw RNG (as priest has essentially no card draw) and "created by" RNG. Neither is fun to play against (and I say this as a former priest main) and winning is often a result of genrating the right resource at the right time (or because your opponent fell asleep). The mirror match up is a clown fiesta of the highest order!
Warrior - two varients Bomb and Big. Bomb warrior is close to turtle mage in terms of interaction. Remove minions, place bombs, repeat and hopefully watch the oponent slowly die with nothing they can do - bnous points if the weapon attack goes face. Big variant - cheat out large minions early. Doesn't work very well in the current meta and is also heavily dependant on the order you draw your cards.
Rogue - mostly face. Deck strategy - me go face and draw my whole deck. You cant target my minions so they nearly all get one attack in on your face. I never run out of cards in hand, but sometimes I still like to draw more through the secret passage. You play taunt - me sap and go face. Did I mention I go face?
Shaman - do people play shaman?
Druid - I think we all know what the gimicky druid deck is/was (maybe dead now?). The next one will be just as gimicky though with mountseller. Oh - it also draw's it's whole deck by turn 10 with extra bonus dragons thrown in for good measure.
Warlock - I haven't really seen a warlock on the ladder since the new expac. Prior to this it was mostly quest OTK which removed all minions, drew it's whole deck and OTK'd - the height of interactivity.
QUIT...NOBODY REALLY GAF what you think anyway..BYE. As they say in the real world as opposed to the safe space basement at grandmas house .DONT LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE A$$ ON YOUR WAY OUT....
What kind of a childish comment is this? You should get a ban imho. I think the OP has some valid points, if you don't agree you don't agree, just say it like a normal person would, you are the type of nerd I slapped silly at school.

lv426a11 posted a message on Hearthstone in the past and todayPosted in: General DiscussionI think hearthstone is heading to the dumpster. Too much RNG, too much highroll bullshit you can't do anything about and too many decks you can't interact with at all. It's basically becoming a single player game.

Skyi101 posted a message on Hearthstone in the past and todayPosted in: General DiscussionBeta player - every expansion allows this game to become more of an RNG or hyper agro fiesta.
Player ladder or competitive feels bad winning or losing. Volatile is a great word for the game. There is little to no reward anymore.
It just caters too much to new/casual/low skilled players. RNG is good at the right level balanced with skill.
And yes I'm consistently legend, sometimes high legend) even before the ladder change. And the RNG bs is at all levels.

Ccc248 posted a message on Hearthstone in the past and todayPosted in: General DiscussionHey guys,
Recently was looking for some distraction from work and started to play Hearthstone for a 2 weeks now after approximately 4 years. Played few arenas and standard play for fun (just basic mage deck to gold tier), but found out I did enjoy the game much less than before. The reason might be, that I just dont like the game that much anymore, but also might be due 2 reasons I noticed.
1. Hearthstone shifted towards randomness heavily, when i compare the game to times up until league of explorers (after that I basically stopped playing). I would be interested, if this is a longterm shift, where Hearthstone is shifting from skill based more to luck based game (not that skill would not matter, of course better player will still have better results, but the volatility of results seems to be much greater). Also would be interested, if those of you, who played the game back in times of Naxxramas, GnG, etc. like this shift.
2. Cards have much bigger impact with less skill needed. Back in times I mentioned, blizzard was nerfing decks like miracle rogue and patron warrior, because they were too strong and possibly OTK decks, but those deck were strong only in hands of skilled players and noobs had usually very poor reasults with decks like that. Today there so many extremely easy to play decks with so powerful cards, that one turn can totally change the course of game no matter what, with no skill needed. Back then pilotted shreder was used in most deck with deathrattle summoning 2-cost minion. Now i am not sure, it would make any current deck, because there are so many extremely impactful cards, that would be back then instantly nerfed, that it completely changed the game i used to enjoy.
My question is. Is this gradual shift over the years, or is it just this season? Do you guys enjoy this change? Is it just lack of creativity from game designers over the years with so many random techniques, or it is desired state of the game?
To be honest, I briefly checked, wheter there are any similar articles or videos on this topic, but of course feel free to share anything. Thanks.

LOL at this.
Mech Hunter was NEVER the best deck in the meta, and I highly doubt it will be. Warrior will still be crushing the ladder.

Sure it takes a sky rocket scientist to play zoo. I guess the most difficult thing that you do not seem to grasp is WHEN to play zoo.

Keleseth.
Such an horribly designed card.

Nothing will change Wild, it will always be the superior format.
More different decks, expect the unexpected, every class has plenty of competitive decks.
Standard is such a bore.

I strongly disagree with the HUGELY BETTER statement.
I'd rather play Equality at 4 mana than Skrinking Ray at 5 mana all the time as a pally. Btw Consacration without Equality is almost NEVER played, guess why?
I think that all these nerfs sound very reasonable to me, but I side in with those calling for a nerf on Barnes as well.
Equality at 2 mana has always been too strong for such a crazy effect on the board.

I'm playing since Beta and Snake Trap has NEVER been staple. Starving Buzzard had better tools to work with ( Unleash ) and Timber wolf? Wut? Are we playing the same game?

Hey nice to see so many veteran gamers!
44 yo, working since I was 20 with airplanes! I am a videogamer and board/card gamer since I was a little kid :)
About HS, I'm f2p since open beta and I hate grinding; I manage to get around rank 5 every month. I like to NOT have a full collection and try to use what I own, I rarely craft stuff even if I still have 20k gold and 10k dust around.

It only takes time.
It's just grind, grind, grind.
I barely notice if they have the Legend card back, cuz it doesn't mean anything to me.
1
You mean players with more time to spend/waste.
Getting legend is only a grind. A boring one, that's it.

with all the ways to thin your deck ( Call to arms and all that card draw ) late drawing Uther is not that big of a deal.
I won plenty of games with Uther being my last card, thanks to the two Time Outs.
