No one wants them to not make money. The price of the game is ludicrous compared to the competition. The barrier for new players is insane.
    ...
The reason the meta gets so stale is because people only play 1 deck, and the reason for that is because people can ONLY afford 1 deck.
For the price of the pre order it should AT LEAST guarantee to get you all the cards of the set (It should probably cost less than that)
New players should probably be able to pay 60 dollars (the price of a regular game) to get all the cards in the current standard rotation. And then since the base game is affordable, then they can start selling cosmetics, and people will feel good about it because the player base is growing  instead of focusing in selling the game to whales you get a healthy amount of new people coming into the game and people quitting the game

There’s no question Activison/Blizzard charge too much, but 8,000 gold for a full set is in no way fair monetization. That literally is demanding the whole game for free.

As for the argument that stale metas come from overcharging, there’s a real chance that if everyone had every card the meta would only be a handful of optimized decks. Without scarcity run anything but the top deck?

Good to see they're scared.  They're scared that people are seeing how expensive the game is.  That's why they're letting you buy all the cards for a bulk gold fee this time.

But this begs the question: why can we get these 35 cards for 2000 gold, but have to buy pack after pack for a chance to get the cards from the expansion?  Shouldn't it be available in its entirety for 8000 gold?  Then they could justify the tavern pass since that's probably just about the amount you'd end up with each expansion for a person who plays a lot.

Oh right.  Money.  Can't do anything fair.

You do realize that businesses have to make money, right? All of this isn’t free to host. Last I checked Hearthstone cost multiple millions of dollars per month to maintain, and you’re asking for the entire set to be free to anyone who logs an hour a day playing and you have the gall to complain that “can’t do anything fair”?

I’m not going to claim that Activision is magnanimous in any way but how in the world is “I want you to lose millions of dollars so I don’t have to pay anything but the fake currency you gave me to get what I want” anything approaching fair?

Sadly yes, it is a known bug. I had the misfortune of running across it my first time getting the brb achievement. If you mouse over the player in first place you’ll see them registered as repeatedly fighting the same ghost.

I think they’ve disconnected from the server but there’s some sort of authentication error that isn’t confirming that they’re gone.

It’s not always first place either. If you have a higher health total than them you can face off against a third place player repeatedly while in first, if the second place player is glitched.

Sure was livid to miss out on the brb with two poisonous divine shield  windfury almagadons and two divine shield cleaving minions.

Got it two days later, thankfully.

there are multiple things this card does well. first  of all, it showcases how little of a shit blizzard gives about wild; since this card is garbage in standard, while possibly fitting into big priest in wild, a deck that is universally hated by the wild community.

a 10 10 taunt is yet another threat in big priests aresnal, other decks that might be able to use this: taunt druid, pocket galaxy mage and possibly dank hour lock

*complains about Blizzard not caring about Wild due to one card in a set that is 70%  Wild-only cards*

    Riiight.

New sets mean -gasp!- new cards! And new cards means -gasp!- cards that can be used in preexisting decks! Now if only they printed that mass polymorph for 8 mana that people have been asking for forever. Oh, wait....

All that obvious stuff aside, you should rejoice if Big Priest cuts something for this. What, are they not going to run Rag because this has +2/2 and can attack? Or maybe they cut Obsidian Statue because of the bigger numbers on this guy? Maybe they don’t cut any of their good minions for this so they cut spells. Like Rez effects, because who wants a 2 mana Rag when you could have a card that puts 2/2 more slower stats on the board for just 8 more mana!

Funny how in these forums the vast majority are oh I have thousands of gold, when that clearly isn't the reality.  Just another reason to show these forums for understanding patterns are entirely worthless.

“Clearly isn’t the reality”? What presumption is this? I’m sitting on 3kg after blowing it down to 0 for the PvE content. My wife has over 20k as a F2P player due to her playing daily but hardly spending anything each expansion.

Do not assume a reality simply because you cannot conceive others are different than yourself.

Not being rude, but it's not presumption, stop being disingenuous and use your brain.  Of all the people who play hearthstone is it even mildly plausible that even HALF the player base has the amount of resources talked about in these forums?  And these forums always have way more than 50 percent of people stating they have big numbers.  If you honestly can't see the simple point that it's not representative of the larger playerbase you'll never engage in reasonable debate.

Yes. Considering we’re not talking about “the playerbase” we’re talking about a self-selected universe of players invested enough to A. Have hearthpwn accounts and be accessing the forums and B. Be drawn into a discussion clearly asking about gold savings.

Would it be disingenuous to find a high percentage of people responding to a Business Insider article on retirement management have robust 401ks?

You can understand patterns from a biased selection base as long as you are accounting for those biases.

I spend far more time on the Hearthstone Discord than Hearthpwn and the discussion of “how much gold do you have saved?” is not infrequent. But there you often have screenshots to dissuade any misguided assumptions that people are for whatever reasons boasting about what is really an average amount of gold.  Again you find that a significant number of players have thousands of gold going into a new set, seeing as how that is an optimized strategy and players hardcore enough to be spending free time discussing the game they spend their free time on tend to be drawn to optimizations.

If it weren’t for the PvE content costing gold this time around, I’d expect many more people up in the 7-8k range, where you’d expect anyone who plays daily and knows how to maximize their gold-to-playtime ratio.

Solid curve filler for every Highlander deck, if they become a thing.

The question will be if this is good enough to run in wild highlander decks when Dr. Boom exists, is better and still no longer an autoinclude...

Not so sure that OG Boom is better in any rubric except sheer stats after a silence. This is flexible, being faster (Rush), stickier (DS), more defensive (Taunt), as well as more threatening (Windfury).

I don't think it'll be Ziliax levels of broken good. But that being said, I don't see many neutral 7 drops coming close to its level.
