I'm glad someone else said this.  I read the article and thought "ok some of these complaints have merit"...and then I read THAT little gem and thought to myself... "welp,  the entire complaint is now undermined by this random Deathstalker Rexxar complaint that has ZERO bearing on the current meta....so yea...this guy was just complaining to complain without thinking about any semblance of balance."

TBH he played the deck poorly, granted the matchup was in his favor if he hadn't screwed it up.  Even with as much armor as you had, if he had played the matchup properly there was a 0% chance he would lose.  You got lucky that he didn't know how to play the win condition in this matchup, and he got lucky by being up against a tank up warrior, and not another aggro paladin or aggro mage.

posted a message on The Decline of SC2 Custom Maps.

So something that has been on my mind for the past few days...what happened with the SC2 custom mapping community?

When WC3 came out, it had a very robust community of players playing hundreds of custom maps.  It had a plethora of map makers constantly making new game modes, and updating existing maps to be better/bug-free/balanced.  Hell, WC3 gave the world the MOBA genre (DOTA)!

I remember fondly playing tons of maps and them all having a different gameplay feel.  I remember playing some very micro heavy hero battle games, some Co-Op defense games, and very intense Tower Defense games that had really good tower strategy formats.

Yet, when I played SC2 both when it came out, and recently.  It has never felt the same.  The map community tried to convert/port a lot of the popular WC3 mods over a long time ago.  To name a few, Dark Deeds, Kobold Tribes (WC3's Ice Troll Tribes), Element TD.  But even the handful of WC3 maps that got recreated didn't feel the same.  Either thematically or balance-wise.  Not only that but the types of games that seemed to be popular in SC2 seemed to be very polarizing and monotonous.

The games in SC2 that turned out to be popular were generally poorly scripted/balanced or just spam click fests.  Some examples were games like MineralZ, Line Tower Wars, Desert Strike.  To elaborate a little.  Line Tower Warz and Desert Strike are non-micro games that just enforce spamming counter units at the right time to try and eliminate opponents.  And Mineralz, while fun at first when I played it, turned out to be a nearly never ending game that would go on for HOURS.

Overall, the quality/diversity of maps in SC2 never felt like it did with WC3.  The remade maps just weren't the same, which can be understood to a degree since a lot of the original map makers didn't remake the maps in SC2, but the other problem is that the maps in SC2 just didn't feel diverse enough.

I guess this observation came due to the new Premium Arcade Maps in SC2 a few days ago.  I'm not sure how I feel about this since it does cause the Bethesda problem of having mods be paid will cause community splits.  Custom maps/mods should never be paid for.  Paid stuff should be DLC (like the sc2 co-op heroes) not custom maps.  Paying for mods is a slippery slope that leads to nowhere except a worse gaming experience in the future.

That being said,  the quality of the custom maps in SC2 feels so low that I've actually contemplated buying one of the premium maps because at least I know it'll be balanced and high quality.  It's a bit of a conundrum.

Anyhow I've digressed a little.  To sum up my free-standing question:  Why does SC2 custom map community not feel like the WC3 custom map community?  What are your thoughts on the current situation with SC2.  Would love to hear other community opinions on this.

posted a message on I don't think the issue with cubelock is the minion cheating/cubes

    Quote from Ixoziel >>

The solution I often see and really like is put Doomguard's charge on its battlecry.

What's the point of nerfing the classic set, especially when that card hasn't really been a problem until now? Furthermore, Control Lock often doesn't even use doomguards yet it's still a t1 deck. The problem is NOT doomguard. It's the mechanics that not only allow you to cheat out doomguards, but voidlords as wel.
Because many people don't really care if a lock player cheats out Voidlords.  The only stategy that gets screwed over by cloning voidlords is SMorc decks, and maybe a few fringe midrange decks that just don't have enough threats to punch threw.  Everything else has the tools/skill necessary to kill multiple voidlords.
The problem as mentioned multiple times now in this thread is that Charge is a BAD mechanic.  It's consistently been nerfed time and time again because the community constantly proves that it looks for the most OP charge cards at the time and uses it to circumvent counterplay.
Right now the two biggest offenders of this charge non-interactive gameplay are Quest Rogue and Cubelock.  Cubelock's deck allows it a huge flexibility in what it wants to try and dupe/cheat out.
Up against aggro?  Clone voidlords.  Up against control?  Clone doomguards.  They don't really have a bad matchup which is why they are so popular right now, except for maybe against the #2 deck...that's right....QUEST ROGUE!   Hope you like getting OTK'd from 30 health behind taunts!  Maybe you'll survive if your entire deck is taunts, but even then it's unlikely.  Seriously I've seen rogues do 35 damage from hand yesterday in a match.  (I had 2 taunts up).
The problem IS doomguard.  Cheating out demons was BY DESIGN (See Lackey or Skull).  The problem is that some of those demons are overly powerful when combined with things like Zola, Cube, Dark Pact, Umbra, etc.
The best way to counter this as mentioned was if the Charge mechanic was tied to the battlecry.  Cheating out a 5/7 isn't bad,  and it would probably still be used considering it's one of the better demons out there, but if they want Charge, they gotta discard.  It's that simple.
I know you want to fight back and say "nuh uh, if that's the case then they wouldn't have made the cheat out cards!".  And again, wrong.  Doomguard is classic.  It was designed originally with the classic card pool in mind.  Back then there were no "duplicate" or cheating cards.  So it was perfectly balanced.  Now it's not.  Sorry but Blizzard isn't infallible, they make mistakes and make poor balance decisions sometimes.

We all know blizzard takes too long to balance their games, how long do you think it'll take before they deal with this cancerous meta? Im guessing we have a whole nother 2 more months of this "diversity"

That's quite the assumption that you're applying to everyone. Blizzard is deliberate with balance changes because they affect consumer confidence in how we spend dust, that doesn't necessarily make them too slow. Stop comparing decks you don't like a terminal disease you big baby. The meta is quite diverse but all playable decks are streamlined and powerful.
I believe when people say "balance" they mean they should be able to compete with bad decks and mediocre cards which will never be the case. Anyway you're a dipshit, try getting better at Hearthstone, scrub.
Hmm,  Less than 2 month old account.  Language indicates long term player.  So....troll account or banned account using an alt account to continue trolling?  You be the decision!  (or perhaps the moderators can look into where you're connecting from and ban this account too! #Happy)
Anyhow,  no.  People don't mean "bad or mediocre" cards.  They mean being able to outplay or outthink your opponent.  Some matchups are just bad from the onset, but there's some matchups where no matter what you do you can't prevent your opponents win condition.  Or, some matchups you have no tools (i.e. cards) at your disposal to disrupt the enemies plan, but you did at one point. (read: dirty rat).
Here, watch this video and MAAAAYBE, just maybe....you'll understand how a lot of people are feeling right now.

Yes, maybe there's a bit too many threads about cubelock.  Ever consider that there's also too stagnant of a meta, and the fact that the same two decks from the last standard year are STILL top dogs?  People don't mind top dogs as much if they aren't top dogs all the time.  If the thread(s) bother you that much you could...you know try not posting in them/reading them?  I mean I'm sure when you clicked on the title you knew what was being discussed, so honestly the only thing really interesting here is this...
Do you come to these threads looking for attention, or do you just like to bitch in general?  Or maybe it's a combination of the two...hmm...
I'm going to be that poster, but in the Hearthstone community there are are complaints every time a deck appears on the top for more than one meta at a time. The community is impatient and wants every meta to be a special snowflake variety pack, which is nothing more than impractically idealistic.
I'm almost completely convinced that most Hearthstone players have never played a card game outside of HS, otherwise they would realize that the times that HS does have the same deck from an older meta that allows it to be on top it is not as bad as other longer lasting card games have dealt with in their own game. I can't sympathize with Hearthstone players who complain about Cubelock existing for maybe 2-3 metas in a row when I know other games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh, where players dealt with much worse when having to deal with a variation of Chaos Control decks for well over a year. When compared to older games Hearthstone has comparatively nothing to complain about.
When you actually play another game and then see how impatient the HS community is sometimes it gets a little annoying. The lack of patience is honestly stifling.
So your retort is essentially the "Genetic Fallacy"?  Because Yu-Gi-Oh or MTG players had to deal with longer metas, everyone should as well?  Both of those games were still physical card games until recently.  Hearthstone has the privilege of preventing stagnant metas, especially at the turn of the standard cycle.  The other part of the problem is the un-interactiveness of some of the decks.  I won't derail this thread to segue into that but suffice it to say that very prominent pro streamers have even gone on the record of saying that this meta has some of the most un-interactive decks currently dominating, which makes playing against those decks very unappealing.

You're a priest.  With enough early taunts (i.e. as Sugatang mentioned) Stonehill and Tar Creeper should mitigate enough damage that your hero power should be enough to prevent dying.  Don't forget, health is a resource, you don't need to win a matchup with full 30 HP.  Just 1 will do. :)

I do like seeing Unidentified Elixir though,  an underrated card IMO.

posted a message on When you spectate your friend and find them playing Cubelock...

    And ask them why...?

    My response:

On a sidenote, I think the cubelock combo is still a bit problematic.  I don't think the card needs a direct nerf, but after seeing them around for almost 3 season metas, it's time Blizzard adjusted the card.  The best idea I've discussed with friends/heard of is the simple change to make the charge effect only come from being played as a battlecry, that way it's still a high stat minion to cheat out, but if you want to go face, then you gotta pay for it with discards.

I mean, the fact that RUSH is a new keyword should point out the fact that blizzard isn't going to be making many more charge cards anymore.  It's been discussed to death before but Charge has always been at the core of problematic cards and then nerfed into oblivion because too many people want to abuse that tasty SMorc action.

Yeah i want to know his plan for Tyrantus on 5 or 6 depending on coin.  Spiteful is a nightmare without Hex and a 50/50 with it.

Did you not read his decklist?  He has 2x hex.  And if you really want to try and counter spiteful decks, tech in a Darkness.  Problem Solved.

I am missing the key card: Kalimos.  For the time being I've inserted Al'Akir; does anyone have a better recommendation?

If you're using Al'akir, then it's a good idea to drop the unbounds and to put in Corpsetaker.  If you cast shudderwock with Al, in your deck (not drawn) then you'll end up with possibly multiple shudderwocks that all have Divine Shield, Taunt, Windfury.  Throw in a Vicious Scalehide and your Corpsetakers/Shudderwock will possibly have lifesteal as well.
Another possibly combo to consider is Tol'vir Stoneshaper.  This is a bit more consistent (less able to get screwed up by drawing Al'Akir, but will require you to "setup" your Shudderwock turn, by playing an elemental a turn before (not terrible hard).  This will let your wock get Taunt/Divine shield.  Lastly, a somewhat middle of the ground plan is to use Lone Champion in your deck.  Your wock should gain Taunt/Divine Shield as long as he copies that battlecry BEFORE he copies Saronite Chain Gang's battlecry.  Obviously this is up to RNG of the battlecry order.
All 3 combos will make your shudderwock have a more impactful board presence, which is what you ultimately want to occur in this setup.
I actually love how much potential shudderwock has, now that the whole "OTK-Lifedrain" combo craze died down.

Fun deck till you have to play Spiteful anything or Warlock.  Wait that's like 90% of the players these days.

Tech your deck against spiteful then.  Add in 2x Hex, and take out 2 cards.  OR, my current favorite/fun anti-spiteful tech card is The Darkness.  Candles count as 4 cost spells, so it can really screw over spiteful decks.  And since darkness can be played as early as turn 4, if you're up against Druid or Priest, just try to mulligan for your darkness and it's gg.
If you consider that most spiteful decks only run 2-4 big spells (Priests run Mind Control and sometimes Amber, while Druids run Ult Infestation) then adding 3 candles to your opponents deck can dilute their spell pool as much as 150%.
I also think we all just need to hope for next expansion that a new 10 cost minion gets added to the game that has abysmal stats, but an insane battlecry.  (i.e. 10 Mana - 1/1 Battlecry: Summon a 9/9 generic minion) to screw over the 10 mana minion slot with bad stats.)
