Been playing for a year and never had someone friend me to talk trash til today.  Guy friends me to tell me I'm garbage for playing Tempo Mage (even though he's rocking CW) and then unfriends immediately before I can reply.  Wtf?  If you're going to get all salty because you lost, stick around to hear the other person's thoughts on your play.

I started about the same time as you and also pay.  I get down to around 12 each season, but have only played Dragon Priest and don't have a ton of time to grind.

My experience is that around rank 15, you start hitting the actual meta where players are running out archetype decks (that have actual names like Miracle Rogue, Tempo Mage, C'thun Druid, Zoolock, etc.)  Each archetype is almost identical from player to player, and they're highly efficient.  Like, my Dragon Priest is going to rail your Dragon Paladin every time, because it's much more efficient.  Pick a class you like, pick the archetype you like, and just play the shit out of it until you know how to play it against other decks.  Recognizing the archetypes from all 9 classes is the other key - knowing your opponent will guide your mulligan and your play.

Tempo Storm has a meta snapshot that gives a good list of all the archetypes.  I don't know how accurate the ranks are, but the deck lists are a decent start for your build.

Could pair it with Auchenai in Priest.  Besides, with all the Reno decks it may be OK to toss out a late game, giant Zombie Chow.

I don't have a particular reason to worry about Ysera, but between her difficulty to remove and her special power I could see someone making a case to make her a 4/8 or something.

I've been fretting over Lightbomb, because it's AoE against Boom and other big minions isn't really replaceable.  I had the revelation in the car today of using a Doomsayer as a replacement.  I don't think it would work in a lot of decks, but because there's so much taunt in Dragon Priest you can drop the Doomsayer and protect it for cheap.  A Wyrmrest Agent + Shield + Doomsayer combo on Turn 5 just won a match against a Mech Mage that I was going down hard in.  We'll see how it goes from here.

posted a message on Getting Ready for Standard - Dragon Priest

    Hi folks,

this is my first post - sorry if this has been asked already.  How are people thinking about prepping for standard?  My main deck is Dragon Priest, which will translate fairly well to standard. None of the core cards will be affected (though I worry about Ysera).

The cards I'm running right now that are definitely phasing out are Dark Cultists x2, Velen's Chosen x2, Lightbomb, and Boom.  Shrinkmeister is also out, but I prefer the Archivist anyway.

My thought is to replace the Cultists with Brann and Fjola Lightbane, and Boom with Chillmaw (I know - three legendaries not an option for a lot of players).  I don't really know what to do about Velen's Chosen and Lightbomb, however.  Hopefully the expansion will have some good options.  Lightbomb can maybe be subbed for Excavated Evil or Entomb, but neither is a complete replacement.

Anyone else working towards a deck that makes sense in Standard?
