posted a message on Fun Yet Totally Unplayable Cards

A negative consequence of an increasing card pool is that decks in all formats just get oppressively better and better as expansions roll out. It's to be expected and can't really be avoided, but it does mean that there are a lot of unique cards that just aren't *quite* good enough for play or too rare for arena, and whatever cool effects they might have are forgotten and untested.

I think cards like the new Warrior legendary and Blood of The Ancient One are some classic examples. What are some interesting cards that you just can't seem to find a way to play?

Second-Rate Bruiser ought to do the trick :) It doesn't fill the dual role that Dirty Rat does, but it's a phenomenal taunt against Aggro.

Far Sight is just pretty terrible in most matchups, AK is far more versatile.

Doomsayer would be okay, but with a board-control deck like this you really never want to clear your side of the board. I haven't really played the druid version of this deck all that much, but in the other Jade archetypes you never ever want a total board clear like the one Doomsayer gives. I'd say it is not, in fact, worth.

posted a message on Some Shaman cards

The problem isn't the overload, it's the mad tempo swing. It's a zero-skill card that would drive everyone crazy. It being legendary has very little effect, so changing the rarity wouldn't matter all that much. I think it must be way more expensive than it is in the current state.

posted a message on Some Shaman cards

Since the likelihood of even being given the possibility to draft either of these (let alone pick AND play optimally) is almost nonexistent I think we can reasonably discredit ever seeing either of these in Arena and focus instead on constructed balance.

I love the concepts behind these, the psychological mechanics of HS are some of my favorites. I like the feel and execution of Thunderstorm (even if it is busted), but Aftershock should never be printed. The fact that you can play it on the same turn as an Eternal Sentinel or Lava Shock and THEN play Sylvanas Windrunner or any combination of the snowbally Shaman cards and then next turn play an 8-drop is wholly, totally, and completely busted. As said before, a 10 mana deal 4 2x sounds like a balanced priest card, but when it only costs 2 with a refundable negative it's easily the most powerful spell in the game. Flamestrike, while obnoxious to be hit with, is still balanced because its high cost means that the tempo swing after playing it will be small (IE you can only play a 3-drop at most) versus Aftershock where you could play an 8 drop after totally clearing the board.

Large board clears must come with some sort of disadvantage to be balanced. Twisting Nether is expensive, Maelstrom Portal is small, Excavated Evil gives your opponent a chance to clear later, ETC. Aftershock's disadvantage is negligible, even if it is a cool effect.

I'd suggest changing its cost to 6 with the same effect, and with 6 Overload. That way, you're able to completely clear the board at the disadvantage of tempo next turn. Mindless clears are boring clears, and boring clears hurt the game.

posted a message on Combatting Negativity- What We Can Do

People like Shrutebucks and Pox are the problem here. People who relentlessly criticize for NO reason other than to criticize are doing nothing beneficial, only spreading negativity and discontent. I get that due to the random nature of games like this it's easy to get upset and then blame the creators, but A) literally nothing is fixed by your whining and B) you ruin the experience for everyone else.

We have places to vent, vent there. If you can't say something nice (or something helpful) then please, for the sake of all of our collective sanities, shut your mouth.

posted a message on Combatting Negativity- What We Can Do

In a recent interview, the Hearthstone team revealed that they are not as community-oriented as they could be because of the harassment they face from the community. They are purposefully distant from us because they're afraid of getting eaten alive with negativity.

This really irks me. The toxicity of the internet and the HS community as a whole has been a frustration of mine for a while, but until now it hasn't been more than a slight discomfort. The interview changes that, as it really shows the effects of our salt and blame-casting on the game as a whole. Let's highlight this again: THE DEVS ARE PURPOSEFULLY NONINTERACTIVE BECAUSE OF US I won't shift blame and say that I haven't contributed to the whinefest at times, it's really easy to complain about things we dislike rather than justify them. We can't keep this negativity up. It's harming the game from the salty BMers all the way up to the development team.

So, here are some quick tips to combat negativity on this forum that I've found to be helpful. If you have anything I missed, let's hear it!

    1) Make sure that you aren't the problem
It's really easy to assume that this is someone else's problem. But what we all need to realize is that this community is all of us, and we all contribute to the bad vibes sometimes. If we're aware of that, then we can cut it off at the curb (or just vent in the proper venues, IE the salt thread).

    2) Ignore toxicity
A lot of the problem is people engaging salty people in articles or forums. If you see someone obviously irritated and venting (IE complaining about mechanics or dev choices in places NOT the salt thread in ways that are neither constructive nor insightful) then don't engage. We all want to feel like our anger is justified, but with justification comes empowerment. We do NOT want to empower negativity, unless that negativity is constructive or in the proper venues.

    3) Downvote/report/direct
If someone REALLY isn't getting the hint, downvote them. If they're crude or break guidelines, report them. We don't want to be thought police, being salty is okay, but only when (as I've said before) it helps someone or is toxic in the right place (again, the salt thread/other threads that promote salt). And at all times, direct unnecessary negativity to the salt thread.

I hope this helps, and I hope it makes this community somewhat better over time. This isn't a problem we can ignore anymore, we have to do something. Spread the good vibes, bros

posted a message on Hearthstone 2016 Year in Review

Dude everyone knows they're a corporation that's in it for profit, that's not a question. But you're acting like a) it matters and b) we can do something about it. We vote with our dollars, so if you dont like how Blizzard is running their game then don't buy packs or switch to another game. I'm fairly content with how they run their game, so I support it with my time and my money. Screaming conspiracies won't solve the problem.

Yeah no this is an awful idea. Goldens are hard to get, and this smuggler bs incentivises people using dust to make new cards.

You have a point. I am just salty. Game is perfect, no need to ever criticize anything. Just accept it like a good shill. Thanks for the thoughtful response :)

It isn't perfect, but your conspiracy theories are neither appreciated nor needed. Take it to the salt thread.

posted a message on Imagine 1-Cost Minions as 5-Mana. (Everything X5)
    Quote from Asuryan >>

You're not multiplying everything by 5.  The cost of cards is not just the mana cost; there's also the cost of the card itself.  To actually multiply it, you'd need to make it cost 5 cards rather than 1.  All of your seemingly over-powered examples start to look MUCH less over-powered when you add "Battlecry: Discard 4 cards" to them.

I wish you could broadcast this to Kripp.

posted a message on Nerfing cards - Why Does It Take So Long?

Clash Royale is a much simpler, smaller, newer game. It's unfair to compare it to HS and the incredible amount of implications of nerfing. Cards only get nerfed to improve design space or remove horribly oppressive decks (two things that all of the cards that people are calling for Blizz to nerf do not do)

posted a message on If you could nerf ONE card

The amount of Jade salt in this thread is hilarious because I will bet you most of the people here haven't even played the deck, only lost horribly to it once or twice.

The infinite jade bs happens so rarely and requires so much setup and such an inconsistent deck that it isn't really possible in the meta right now (seriously, there are next to no Jade decks above rank 5).

Sure, it crushes mill rogue and control warrior if and when it draws perfectly. But CW autolost against renolock in Karazhan and mill rogue hasn't been good since beta, so I don't understand the salt. CW isn't dead just because it has ONE bad matchup (two if you could Renolock) in the same way as Freeze mage isn't dead because it autoloses to control warrior. It is okay and healthy for decks to have hard counters.

For example, Pirate warrior gets hard countered by freeze mage and aggro shaman and Renolock. The amount of cheap and abundant board clears combo'd with good heals (with the exception of FM) makes gaining the necessary momentum impossible. That (obviously) doesn't mean pirate warrior isn't viable, because nearly every other matchup is favorable.

So yes, jade druid, when perfectly played, beats fat control decks about 60% of the time, in the same way that aggro beats jade and control beats aggro. The control>aggro>midrange>control dynamic is very healthy, and that is where the meta is right now.

But seriously, please nerf Magma Rager. The Steward of Darkshire synergy crushed me in April and im still mad about it for some reason.
