posted a message on Quick Question About Jeeves

If one triggers Jeeves with no cards left in their deck, does Jeeves draw them to death?  Based on the text I would imagine it does, but knowing Blizzard's propensity for text inconsistencies in the name of simplicity over clarity, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

Sorry I didn't feel like testing myself (and also sorry if this has been discussed previously).

posted a message on Unstable Portal stories

1st Portal yielded a Prophet Velen that I kept wanting to drop but I had a Frostbolt in my hand so I was gonna save till turn 6.  As the game progressed, I had to play a Belcher turn 6 to stop some momentum (and had also drawn a Fireball at this point, so I'm all $_$).  Turn 7, got 2nd portal which gave me Kobold Geomancer.  Turn 8, drop a Duplicate and on my opponents turn they trigger it, on none other than the geomancer.  Turn 9 I drop the 2 geomancers, they counter with 2 minions since there was 0 pressure from my end and they were at 21 life.  Turn 10 gg.  No screenie cus I was multitasking too many things, but how's that for a story?

The RNG in this game is suboptimal.  I'm more referring to how nearly every time I create a new deck and on the first play through I see lots of  consecutive cards from the decklist and lots of chunking from the decklist.  If the RNG was legit I would've never even noticed this in the first place, let alone see it 80% of the time since.  It happens with arena decks too.  And please, spare me with the links to wikipedia about confirmation bias and the like, this shit is just poorly coded.

Not so sure this nerf would be for balance as much as to reduce the prevalence of otk-type strats for win conditions

posted a message on Bad card language/weird mechanic cards

Here's another instance of an ambiguity I ran into today.  I was a Hunter in a mirror matchup.  I had an Eaglehorn Bow out and the opposing Hunter had a secret on the board.  I proceeded to play Flare and his secret was destroyed and subsequently revealed to me.  However, my bow did not get an additional durability point.  Again, I understand the intent, but was his secret not revealed?  I don't know why Blizzard is so scared of introducing the word 'triggered' into the card text.  It's not like WotC will all of a sudden start hollerin' "SUE! SUE!"

Maybe there could be a little symbol on cards that are boosted by spellpower?

an excellent suggestion considering that in order to get cards in your hand highlighted that are affected by SP, one must mouse over the card in play with SP, which pretty much lets your opponent know that you have something in your hand affected by SP

Druid of the Claw/Ancient of war, Exact same wording? Not really, the wording clearly differs and its not a hero power that you earn after you have changed state such as Jarraxus or Shadowform, it clearly says ''Charge ; or 2 Health and taunt.'' Hence you have two choices for the minion, or applies that either of the selected effects will not be conjoined.

I think he's talking about how if you chose the +X Health and Taunt option and silence the creature, Ancient of War reverts to a 5/5 whereas DotC just loses its taunt but stays as a 4/6 (or vice versa I can't remember)

The others instances the OP brought up can be mostly explained, but just as easily can they be reworded for clarity.  Add these to the myriad of other inconsistencies, and I find myself wondering how this game is being played competitively and how it even came out of beta in the first place with the card text as it is.  The only explanation as to how it can be played competitively is that that playerbase at that level has played the cards enough to know what they do.  That shouldn't be the case.

I read the Q&A saying they tried to keep the text intuitive and simple so that it was more accessible to new players, but I think it does just the opposite.  When I was a brand new player coming from an MtG background, things like this AoW and DotC nonsense really threw me off.  For a game that thrives on being so polished, a player shouldn't have to interpret the card text in any manner other than literally.  Sure I know what they're getting at with Shadow Madness vs. cards with permanent control mechanics, but I shouldn't have to wonder to myself about if my creature gets summoning sickness again or not.

a simple test would be to pop a shield on an Argent Commander and then try to play any relevant warrior card such as Execute.

Execute doesn't care for Divine Shield. DS blocks damage, Execute destroys. If you Divine Shield a damaged minion, Execute will still work. So will Assassinate, Corruption, etc.

I meant pop a shield on an undamaged argent commander and then play execute.  I figured that was implied.

@Darkblade: I'll add you when I get a moment for another test, though it seems like it's not a consistent issue because Manphius tested it.  Maybe it has something to do with board state, but I don't know anything about coding so that may be a ridiculous conjecture.  I really should've screenshotted because it may seem like I'm misremembering or just didn't understand the situation, or that I'm just FOS.  I doubt it was my memory since I was compelled to post pretty immediately after, and as an avid MTG player in the day, I doubt I'm misunderstanding what happened.

Which brings me to my response to firekindle: that is a card text issue since the +2 attack buff from Inner Rage isn't dependent on the damage dealt, in contrast to Water Elemental, where the freeze is applied as a consequence of the damage.

It's hard to take the text so literally, though, with the text being kind of inconsistent in this game.  In MTG you can take everything as it appears on the card, but I feel like with Hearthstone, the card text isn't as refined.  For example, I understood Tinkmaster Overspark's effect just by reading the text pre-nerf.  After they modified him, though, the text isn't as clear.  When I first saw the card post-nerf, I thought the minion would be randomly chosen, but the player could choose if it turned into a 1/1 or 5/5.  This isn't the case right? (I'm still not 100% sure)  I don't play too too much; since the nerf i've only played with tink once in arena (I don't own him) and seen him played once against me (which doesn't tell me if one gets to choose or not).  If my understanding of the card is correct, it should read "Transform another random minion into a 5/5 Devilsaur or a 1/1 Squirrel, randomly", if only to remain consistent with the structure of very same card before it was changed.  I understand that this would be kind of convoluted wording.  It's not pretty to the eye but at least it would be legal in its manner of phrasing.  With such ambiguities present in this game, it's hard for me to take it seriously. That said, obviously I enjoy it since I continue to play.  I just hope Blizzard will work towards getting it right ASAP, that's the kind of thing you weed out before you come out of beta, especially with this game being MLG and shit.

I really don't know why this isn't a more widely explored and discussed topic, but maybe I'm just wrong and the text is perfectly fine.  It wouldn't be the first time, sometimes I'm just high.  Maybe I'll make another thread about it.
