If it's matching you with diamond-legend players, it means you don't suck, you are actually pretty good.
Not necessary. As I wrote in this thread the MMR could be raised due to a luck streak and a bad player could suddenly be considered legend-capable.
The whole problem creating this is that they don't count your average MMR during the last Season, they count the peak MMR. And they do this so the system is not abused by people doing the following: Staying at say level 25, going to 21 with 100% ratio, then auto-conceding back 25 and doing the same over and over again. Such people would have low average MMR, but very high peak MMR.
Now on the other side the problem with the peak MMR is that it hits people like OP that got a very lucky streak. So, they have to tune their MMR algorithm to be a mix from both the average and the peak MMR.
And you can do this (lowering your MMR), everytime you hit the floor rank without anything to lose.
Yes, you can lower your MMR to some extend in the current system - say for facing the lower bottom of your MMR group. How big is each MMR group and how many MMR groups are there (are they 11 like the bonus pools for example or 2-3 to guarantee fast matchmaking) we don't know. I would speculate and say these are shifting from 10 at the beginning to 2 at the end of the Season. At least that's the most logical way for this to be done.
And this problem (lowering your MMR on purpose) would exist as long as there are "safe floors" in the MMR-matching ladder (D5-).
As I wrote the problems with this ladder system are many and they should consider switching to full MMR-system with decays.
I doubt the game knows the difference between skill and luck either.
It doesn't. OP's case is mentioned a lot on the forums which means a winning streak due to luck results in high MMR in the same way a skilled play does.
Any game is right now a giant struggle and it just feels awful to play.
It seems you are one of those players which MMR was overrated last Season due to a winning streak at the end. What's worse is you couldn't know that since they didn't officially published it before the start of last Season. So, in this case, Blizzard really owe an apology to such players.
The best you can do now is wait until last week of the month where players with T2- decks would start to appear, so you get some wins and use the streak to climb in the ranks.
The problem however remains - players getting lucky with wins and receiving high MMR are going to have a hard time the following Season. So, Blizzard needs to tune how their MMR is calculated in such situations or as I wrote multiple times transition to a full MMR-system with decays, in which this problem won't exist since when such player loses 3-4 games in a row he would be matched with WAY weaker opponents.
About the ladder system climb and the grind compared with before:
- For D5- players it may be more or less grindy depending on their luck and streak, generally it would be more
- For players aiming specifically D5 the grind is more
- For players aiming specifically legend the grind is less now
Just read the front news page on this site - it's all there. In short - the bonus stars are determined by your higher rank or MMR.
Q: How many stars bonuses do I get at the start of the season? A: It depends on your current MMR and the rank you reached from your previous season, whichever gives a higher value.
Don't forget some of these rewards you get now are first time only rewards and won't be given to you again. But if you never finish rank 5 the new system is definitely better rewards wise for you.
I suppose dust value is relatively similar (haven't made the math)
If we compare Diamond 5 now with rank 5 before the dust now is around 10% more. The grind to D5 now however is 500% more. And if we include a dust per minute metric the system now is worse for those that value their time.
But as I wrote their main goal was to make a FUN system. My personal opinion is they failed at it.
Exactly. It's also even more weird to play 30 minute games when we all can "co-op", waste 1 minute until next game starts and be out of bonus pool and with desired rank super quick.

Yes, HS players are to become more friendly in that regard with each new Season.

They don’t want players to give free wins each other it seems.
While with the bonus pool the following situations could exist if both players ranks are visible:
They have to improve a lot of things for sure.
Also, they can't do nothing about those like me viewing the "bonus pool" stage as useless - they simply have to change the system.

Are the cards they give you the same for everyone or they are based on the random deck one gets?

Yes, just like at the old system you could get matched with legend players outside of legend rank - same MMR logic applies here.

They want to add some fun to the system besides the usual up and down.
This should have been achieved with special ladder quests not the current absurd streaks and meaningless bonus pool climb however.
Anyway, they would change it in an year I guess and in the meantime we'll see how the social experiment with HS players adopting "co-op" goes.

Some fast basic calcs for the average of most ranks. The point is - before was way faster for those aiming rank 5 specifically.

You can't drop from rank 5 and 10 on any league. These are "safe points". And in Bronze you don't lose stars at all.

I am scared to write something here, the plebs will downvote KAPPA.

No, there is no need for that:
- If matched by MMR (when you have bonus pool before Diamond 5) rank is not important
- If matched by rank (when you are out of bonus) your opponent has same star as you

What you quoted has nothing to do with this topic.
