an old interview on the MMR system

Let's suppose what you say is true - this would be the case for casual mode since conceding in legend lowers your MMR. The MMR in the new ladder system is lowered too after a concede since many people report they face easier opponents that way. And since Blizzard haven't stated otherwise explicitly in their FAQ (where they commented on MMR tanking from Season to Season) this pretty much means your MMR drops when you concede.

Tried to ladder a bit today and was closer than ever to deleting the game. This is complete and utter shit.

Just give it a break for some days and you'll be fine.

You.  Can’t.  Tank.  Your.  MMR.  Blizzard has stated this

No, they haven't. You misread their FAQ as many others.

You can lose MMR on purpose by conceding/losing games. Just to a certain point - the bottom of your group. But as I wrote facing the bottom of your group is better win ratio wise than the middle/top of it.

     Your entire argument

My argument is pretty clear and if you don't understand that you'll face easier opponents when losing MMR you are just brainstorming things in your posts.

People aren't going to just throw games

Not until they understand this would be the fastest way to climb while on the bonus. It'll take time for sure, but I expect with each Season more and more people to make concede part of their climbing routine. And from there the natural continuation is the "co-op" scenario. We'll see, I am excited too about what this new ranking system will review about HS players psychology.

That's not needed for raising your win rate. You miss that.

you can’t tank your MMR and face easier opponents

You can lose MMR on safe floors in order to face the bottom of your group after that.

Let's say the legend group is 10k people and your MMR is in the middle thus you are facing players from that middle range when you que. When you lose on purpose and your MMR falls to the bottom you would be facing the legend players from the bottom. Yes, they are still legend players, not noobs (although the system allows for lucky noobs with streaks to be considered legend players based on MMR), but there is a difference between facing the bottom from the legend pool and the top from it. You are more likely to win vs the bottom.

    Quote from Aegis24 >>

You’re not talking about a play style

People changing their play style would be people beginning to "co-op" while on the bonus pool and concede when first in order everyone to reach the non-bonus pool phase quick.

"And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

Yes, it's all bound together. The problems are related.

It's like a car missing some parts and thus at times accelerating extremely or completely stopping. Then I appear and start explain to different folks that own such car model what is causing their problem, as well as I inform the manufacturer what needs to be changed. Don't you agree this is what has to be done?

The wild format shows the weaknesses of HS designers team at best since making specific counter decks is an impossible task even with thousands of available cards. They have to play more wild to know what their game is missing.

No any star bonus from D5 to legend (the last 15 stars).

see how the new ranking systems settles in.

More and more players are going to adopt the fast decks combined with concede gameplay (which is the most adequate way for people valuing their time) which in turn may lead to whole groups of players adopting the "co-op" mechanic when with the bonus pool (first to play instantly concedes). The "co-op" mechanic would be the fastest way to progress through the bonus stage if adopted by all players. It would literally mean that all players with a 9+ star bonus would be Diamond 5 only after an hour from the start of each Season. And this in turn would lead to a lot more non-D5 players aiming for D5 to achieve a 9 star bonus and join the "co-oping", which eventually would snowball and lead to everyone becoming D5.

The above of course would happen if the players realize the "co-op" potential. It would be a very interesting year for sure. I am extremely eager to find out how this social experiment goes.

If it's matching you with diamond-legend players, it means you don't suck, you are actually pretty good.

Not necessary. As I wrote in this thread the MMR could be raised due to a luck streak and a bad player could suddenly be considered legend-capable.

The whole problem creating this is that they don't count your average MMR during the last Season, they count the peak MMR. And they do this so the system is not abused by people doing the following: Staying at say level 25, going to 21 with 100% ratio, then auto-conceding back 25 and doing the same over and over again. Such people would have low average MMR, but very high peak MMR.

Now on the other side the problem with the peak MMR is that it hits people like OP that got a very lucky streak. So, they have to tune their MMR algorithm to be a mix from both the average and the peak MMR.

    Quote from Rohriant >>

And you can do this (lowering your MMR), everytime you hit the floor rank without anything to lose.

Yes, you can lower your MMR to some extend in the current system - say for facing the lower bottom of your MMR group. How big is each MMR group and how many MMR groups are there (are they 11 like the bonus pools for example or 2-3 to guarantee fast matchmaking) we don't know. I would speculate and say these are shifting from 10 at the beginning to 2 at the end of the Season. At least that's the most logical way for this to be done.

And this problem (lowering your MMR on purpose) would exist as long as there are "safe floors" in the MMR-matching ladder (D5-).

As I wrote the problems with this ladder system are many and they should consider switching to full MMR-system with decays.

I doubt the game knows the difference between skill and luck either.

It doesn't. OP's case is mentioned a lot on the forums which means a winning streak due to luck results in high MMR in the same way a skilled play does.

    Quote from Lightsaga >>

    concede a bit. Everyone wins.

Yes, HS players are to become more friendly in that regard with each new Season.

when you're pre-legend you don't see the rank of your opponent

They don’t want players to give free wins each other it seems.

While with the bonus pool the following situations could exist if both players ranks are visible:

    • Player on a “safe floor” conceding to someone else not on a “safe floor”
    • Player outside legend conceding to a legend player
    Quote from user-100394506 >>

It is a confusion. It is kind of chaotic.

They have to improve a lot of things for sure.

Also, they can't do nothing about those like me viewing the "bonus pool" stage as useless - they simply have to change the system.
